For Day Z we have our own TAVIANA Server with our clan members divided into two factions , BSB Ravens (Stealt/friendly faction) and BSB Scorpions (Bandit faction). We have over 1700 registered members with 400+ of which supporting Day Z (and wasteland). Our factions compete against each other (and other server users) in weekly events. What Day Z has done is it has defined the genre on a wider scale. People now can associate a game with what Zombie survival/sandbox and other developers now have a recognised and popular benchmark. Plus, don't forget that the Day Z we are all playing now is a much watered down version of the mod that was first released last year, and in my opinion that was truly original in that it wasn't meant to be a balanced game.

As above, there's a different servers, main hive servers (these seem to be fairly quiet these days because of the admin limitations but allow gear transfer as they are all on a universal database) and private hive servers which are normally isolated to a single server - UNLESS you're on a Vilayer hosted server where you can transfer gears between servers running the same version of Day Z. For example, if you join our taviana server, then go to another vilayer Taviana server you will have your gear from our server.

Less guns could work, but I'd say a better way of keeping things interesting and making players feel genuinely "scared" of death in game would be; - - make ammo a bit less common so it had to be conserved - Make gun shots louder and attract zombies from everywhere within earshot, such as how heavy cal weapons do now - make military grade weapons as rare as rocking horse shit All of these things would make mele weapons such as bats, axes, swords, hammers etc the preferred zombie killer weapons. Cars I would say keep them quite common, after all they wouldn't all just disappear, I'd just say make roads more congested and harder to use and make fuel harder to get (again so it had to be conserved . Also it should only be done by siphoning (once you had scavenged all the bits of a syphon kit, and you should be very exposed when siphoning.

lol good story but it's apparent how new you are to this game. I'm no bandit but a few tips to help you out for next time; - you cant fix broken legs with painkillers anyway and you always need morphine - If you plan on killing some random you have just met, it's best to strike before you meet up with him usually (he might be planning the same thing!) - You shouldnt really go looking to bandit people if all you are packing is a double barrel shotgun, unless you plan to laugh them to death ! Get yourself on our server, it's bandit and bambi friendly and theres plenty of folk who will help you out with equipment and with more (and real) banditry tips!
