    MEGA MOD

There are no safe zones in Epoch by default, this is jsut something server owners code into the server. Thats part of the balance of traders, yea you can get gear and raise funds to get more and better gear, but it's not safe! In fact it's meant to be very risky indeed. Oh and back on topic - OP: yea you may have thought about it for a while but the reason you, or anyone else for that matter hasnt done it yet is because it's massive project that simply does not work.

    OVerburned

You mean overburdened? This happens on Epoch when you're carrying too much shit. Drop some of the heavy stuff you are carrying like cinderblocks, safes or fuel barrels.

    Befor You Play DayZ

lol I did pretty much the same! Vehicles werent initially active when I started playing and then when they were added I didnt see any for a couple of weeks. When I did eventually spot my first vehicle one (a datsun pickup in a farm outside of Sosnovoka) I made a sprint for it, attracting a massive train of zombies! I eventaully made it to the car, sat in it, flicked on the lights to illuminate the crowd of Zeds in front of the car, which were now going mad, and realised that the engine and wheels were FUBAR. Shit! I sat there for about 10 mins before I could get back out as I had only about 5 rounds in my Makarov, low blood and no bandages left! lol Happy dayz :D

Musty gaming servers are well adminsitrated and fair, with some good lads from the forums here active (I'm sure your youtube channel and videos would do really well if they had some cameos of guys from the forum!). Look forward tos eeing some good vids matey.

    SA Idea - Tutorial Mission

I don't like this idea. I can see where you're coming from but no, it's not Day Z at all. Day Z isn't player friendly, in fact it doesn't even like you - it wants you to mess up! Showing othEr players the ropes is kind of what it's all about - that or shotting htem int he back and stealing their beanz! Those of us who have become veterans of the game have done so the hard way through trial and error (shame on you if you haven't and just you-tube'd your way to glory!), through those helful "friendlies" we have encountered and thats why we love Day Z. I'd give players no real user guide, no printable maps, no control guide, no details of content, no list of items or weapons etc - Day Z is about players exchange stories and experiences, not cuddly user friendly tutorials. Drop players right inhte thick of it and let them figure it out, withthe help of those who they meet in game. Players exchanging info can also bring about some brilliant "legends" that matter of a fact things sucha s user guides and wikis kill! There were rumours here and in game of, night vision goggles, "ghost ships", phantom radio broadcasts, random military patrols, super zombies, hidden secrets in the woods, murder NPCs and abotu a hundred other stories that turned out to be mostly untrue - but no one knew for certain and they brough about so many hours of entertainment for players! Players exchanging stories and information is fundemental to Day Z, anyhting that encourages should be embraced. That's how it should be! Tutorials would have ruined many hours of excitement for me, in the same way snooping at my Christmas presents before chribo used to when I was a kid (and last christmas!).

    Idea to improve survival odds

OP; , that's kind of what they did in War Z isn't it? You used your torch as a melee weapon? I dunno, I agree ANYTHING, could be useful to uses a weapon, for example a tin of Beans, but I dont personally have problem with having to be a bit careful as a fresh spawn. Our server spawns you with nothing but a bandage - you just got to be quick on your feet and be very stealthy (old skool style!) to get your gear for the first half hour or so and it really helps build the immersion! So in my opinion it's not really a problem to address but yea, would be nice to be able to use most items/tools as melee weapons!

    Life vs Robot in DayZ

I agree, Day Z is a sandbox existence as such for players, so the more elements it has to help immersion, the more appealing it will be and the more longevity it will have. It needs to be consistent and deliver as much detail as possible and as on many levels as possible - including as you point out, look and feel graphically. I was just saying I feel there are some limitations in the graphical area that Day Z faces given that this title isn't being built from the ground up and I personally could overlook these as long as they were the best they could be and and overall the feel of the game aw enough to immerse me. And so far Day Z's other attentions to detail HAVE managed to immerse me and entertain me (not just gimmicky toy features either) for well over a year now, even with a clunky interface and clumsy animations. Ideally though, yea, without a doubt smoother gameplay transitions, higher end graphical animations etc. would all be fantastic and they're a great way to build atmosphere and improve immersion. As a fan-boi of Day Z since early release I naturally want "my" day z to be the best Z-survival game out there of course, so yea I'd love to see the devs take this sort of thing seriously (and I do believe they will!), but I do think at the end of the day it's all of us fans of the genre that benefit anyway as rival titles come out the woodwork and try to out do each other as each one will raise the bar that little bit higher in order to steal our attention! Good first post by the way mate! :)

    Whats your ideal server population?

I guess it depends on the size of the maps/what map is playing on the server too. I'd say the present Chernarus server a good number is as you say 20-30 players. Its fairly active then and you have to be cautious while still having enough room without falling over other players. I also agree with your other friend who likes to feel isolated. I love our server right now as it averages 4-5 players at a time and you can have the run of the server pretty much but still have to be cautious, but you have more chance of being able to secure a strong hold and build a good base. Small maps like namalsk I would say 10-15 players, is good, but the huge Taviana needs 30+ players!

    Life vs Robot in DayZ

I think we might be judging a book by it's cover, before it's even been written here. Whilst I can see your point here, and agree emotion, movement, animation etc all adds to the "feel" of the game, this is something that I feel the Day Z devs are actually more than aware of already. You only have to look at their attempts to add/compensate for this in early Day Z mod builds, such as adding "panic" and humanity systems into the game. Subtle things such as sounds play a key part in Day Z to address the feel of the game, and I was/am more than prepared to overlook the lack of relative animation in characters that are based on a 5 year old game platform and being used well and truly outside of their original design. They were, and I guess still are, limited by their engine in some respects as to some of the look and feel of the animations as it wasn't built from the ground up specifically for Day Z. Certainly more so tahn if they were creting a linear zombie survival game from the ground up, such as Last of us. This is a compromise I am more than willing to accept if they continue to address other key areas of the game though and they continue to "fill in the blanks" in other ways to try and capture a better look and "feel" of the genre. In Last of Us, you feel like you are struggling to survive because of the story they thrust upon you and the excellent quality of graphics that help the look and feel (more effort and time on graphical elements, movement etc is alwasy expected in linear and console-esque titles) all help towards this. This is fair enough and part of the trade off that occurs in playing a fairly linear game. Otherside of the coin, already in day z (this is just the mod built on largely second hand game content!) I feel like I am constantly struggling to survive because of the atmosphere of the excellently rendered landscape, the moody weather and daylight settings (eerie night scapes and dark forrest settings!), the terrifying sounds, the harsh conditions of the game, the countless elements i need to consider (food, water, temperature, shelter, storage, transport, fuel, medical supplies, infection etc) and not to mention the other players! If Stand Alone even matches (and I expect it to improve upon this!) I will be very satisfied indeed. In my eyes, there no comparison and while I agree the feel of the game is very important and animations, expressions etc all add to that, they dont "make" it.
  10. Hey mate, you're more than welcome to come and run with us @ BSB Network. We're just a group of adult gamers who play socially together on our own Epoch server and Teamspeak. We are UK based and English speaking but have a good number of Eu players (Sweden, Netherlands, Germany, Finland, Norway etc). We have no daft rules or requirement, all we ask is you play fair and have a bit of common sense about you. You dont need to join our clan or anything if you don't want, everyone is welcome to turn up and hang out, have a laugh and a bit of banter etc. Basically we're a good bunch of lads, our server is populated with a good mix of regulars, mostly playing cooperative and PvE but there are at least one group of bandit players around the map. Feel free to swing by our TS3 server and Epoch server any time, details in my signature or @ out website @ http://www.bsbnetwork.com

    Skin ideas

Id be very suprised if you couldnt find allt eh elements of clothing to make up current survivor and bandit out fits - I would ahve thought they would ahve been the first items of clothing to be added. I do feel there needs to be a lot of variation added to the game though with lots of diffrent items and colours of clothes available. Variety, after all, is the spice of life

    Looking to play DayZ

Not a problem at all. I would still recommend sampling the other versions of Dayz though, just for the experience. I can totally understand where you are coming from with PvE too, our server is actually PvE (mostly) at the moment as a good chunk of its regular population are all part of the same group of friends! A lot of the play on our server is geared up towards cooperative play, scavenging, playing agaisnt the environment and building up strongholds and gear. The occasional shoot out and skirmish does occour though and there are a couple of bandit players that get on the server regularly, but because of the size of the map (Chernarus is huge, much bigger than what you will be used to in War Z) and the relatively low population you can pretty much go about your business, but knowing there is potentially a hostile out there somewhere does give it a nice little edge too, so we do get a good mix of the game play experience, just slightly more in favour of PvE . As I said in my reply to your PM, you're more than welcome to come check out Epoch on our server, I'll show you around some of the player bases to show you it's potential and to give yo a feel for the mod. Then when you're ready to get your own server I'll be more than happy to give you a hand with some of the config if you like (it gets a bit tricky with all the addiotnal scripts but Ive go a few good contacts who usually keep me right!!!!).

    Looking to play DayZ

Hi mate, welcome to Day - the real zombie survival game. If you enjoyed WAR Z i dare say you will love Day Z. Theres a few different versions of Day Z but Id say in my opinion the best is Epoch and vanilla. Vanilla is fantastic and obviously always going to be held in the highest regard by loyal and time served players but in my opinion its biggest problem is it can get a bit stale after a long period of time as threes not enough to work towards long-game. To try and address your questions bout the game; 1.) If you can build a location to keep friends in and zombies out that would be a perk, and in stead you just have to do runs for supplies and what not. Most "flavours" of Day Z now support some kind of base building or fortification, even the Vanilla version (the original mod, now being developed by Razor). However my personal preference, and fast becoming the communities flavour of choice is Day Z epoch, which has a fantastic modular building system as standard. This truly adds longevity to teh game and makes for some exciting survival stories. On our server I've seen some truly amazing building projects (I'll be uploading some pics/videos soon!) 2.) I'm okay with vehicles and the fuel system, but how does it work and how long does gas last, how rare is it, etc...? It depends on the version of Day Z and of course the server. Most servers on most versions have vehicles and, whats more, most servers have a good number of vehicles to be found or salvaged. Gas cans spawn pretty commonly in farm/industrial buildings and a jerry can will get you a good way around the map. Jerry cans can be refueled from any gas container found on the map (they are quite common in residential areas) and in some versions such as epoch, you can siphon fuel from other vehicles. Both siphoning and filling jerry cans though leave you vulnerable to Zeds and other players. Most server owners also have auto refuel scripts on their server, so you can drive upto a petrol station and auto fill your car, Personally I dont like this and dont have it enabled on our server as it makes things too easy. Its meant to be a struggle to survive and in my opinion planning your travel and fuel resources is a key part of that 3.) I know Epoch has trading which is cool and that seems like a neat feature. As I said earlier, i personally recommend Epoch to any fan of the genre. Its especially good for teams who like to try and survive long term and build strong holds. It has so many features that I couldnt possibly post here , but the traders are often a key feature picked up on - they are a marmite feature. You either love them or hate them. i personally hated them at the start because they seem to go against the grain of what Day Z is all about! I thought, why bother scavenging when you can just go buy all the best gear in the game? however, practically they work really well as they actually encourage scavenging as you can sell pretty much everything you find! if you find a good server where the traders are well balanced and teh better stuff costs a lot more, it also really helps. Having a currency in the game also means theres more to gain/lose which helped add to the atmosphere in game. Epoch has the best features in my opinion, much more than just traders, sucha s the modular building system, personal safes and locker boxes, combination locks, crafting, lighting systems, generators, server events, more vehicles (it has tones of additonal cars and vans!), salvagable vehicle parts, dogs, more skins, more loot - its a big mod and its constantly being developed and improved. Vanilla is a good introduction to the game though and you should still try it though! Namalsk and overwatch are good versions too. 4.) How do the mods work, are they only 1 map per mod, or can a mod run all maps, if so which map is better? Easiest way to play is to just install Day z commander. You can control your updates and each individual mod/version of Day Z from there, having multiple versions installed. Finally you mentioned a server - I would strongly recommend finding a server and playing a few different versions first. There are far too many private servers now and it dilutes the community. A big part of Day Z's appeal comes from the tension and atmosphere generated by other players. Having the run of a server is good, especially when you're brand new to the game, dont get me wrong but the PvP side of the game is where it shines! Good servers I can think of apart from our own are Musty Gaming servers, CPC (epoch) , MGT and CCG
  14. Brings back fond memories - queuing half an hour or more to get onto one of 5 or 6 Say Z servers after work, by the time of getting online it's well after 8pm and getting dark , as the UK servers are running at GMT! Starting with no illumination equipment and running for miles in pitch black darkness! lol We have disabled Full-moon nights on our Epoch server to try and recapture that feeling of terror the night brings, however we do have the city lights system enabled so it kind of helps to guide players in the darkness. I personally love playing night time and having to rely on flares or chemlights!
  15. Open and recruiting decent folk. Details on website.
  16. Hi mate, You are more than welcome to check us out @ BSB Network (http://www.bsbnetwork.com ) We're an adult group of gamers based in the UK with many English speaking US & EU members. We're a good size, not so big that you get lost among a sea of randoms; but a good little group of players. We have been gaming since 2002 and we've supported Day Z since launch and will be supporting it well into stand alone, so we're not some fly-by-night clan that will have disappeared in couple of weeks - we're stable and consistent. We've currently got an Epoch server that is active and has a group of our regulars playing on it. It's mostly PvE stuff at present given the sizes of the population, but as our guys play in small groups there's still plenty of PvP action and there is a dedicated bandit group on the server. We host regular events on the server and it's well administrated (no admin abuse!) with a few tweaks for improved and balanced gameplay - nothing like OP load outs or ridiculous edits that make the game boring and too easy! We have our own Teamspeak server too and our guys use this for teamwork as well as just having a laugh and a bit of banter as they play. We also play other games together too, such as ARMA 3, Left 4 Dead, World of Tanks, CoH, War Thunder etc, etc. All are welcome to come along and join in, we have no special rules or requirements, all we ask is for fair play (no cheating!) and a bit of common sense. Membership to our clan isn't even necessary, everything is quite casual and social but if players want to step things up a little the opportunity is there. Anyway, feel free to swing by our Teamspeak and EPoch server any time matey. Details are on our website @ http://www.bsbnetwork.Com
  17. You're quite welcoem to check out our DayZcraft server (link in signature). it's an Epoch survival/hardcore server, mostly PvE (because the current levels of population) but there are at least two bandit groups active on the server among our 6 or 7 dedicated groups active. You start with just 1 bandage, there are a few Points of interest added to the map but no stupid map updates like 20 barracks in cherno, you need to really search for loot! No choppers spawn randomly, any choppers you find are what other players have either bought or stolen - even then they are very rare as they are very expensive! Standard vehicles do spawn (about 200 scattered about the map) but usually need repairs and theyre scattered about - you dont fall over them on every street! There's only a few decent scripts such as some AI bandits/Survivors spawning occasionally in hot spots about the map, towing/cargo and . Nothing like auto refuel scripts etc. No crosshairs enabled, there are increased zombie numbers (so they swarm and are genuinely a threat!) and I'm the only administrator that has access to full admin tools but there re a few members who have rcon moderation rights (to kick/ban) but, so far we've not had many issues with hackers. Prices for goods are better balanced on our server too with stuff like Night vision available (in limited numbers) but costing a lot of Gold! Basically anything that makes surviving easier costs a lot of resources and takes time - so no just buying great gear after 10 mins of playing! Many of the very best kit cant be bought too (such as Large gun bags), they only spawn and need to be scavenged! The traders on our server serve mostly to sell scavenged gear and to provide some more building supplies for building/fortifying your stonghold. Its a good server and plays out well. You might also want to check out the Moustache Gaming servers which are bit more PvP, have a better population and really well administrated. Good luck fidning a server though
  18. wow 6 month really with that attitude and behaviour? I'm sure I also saw on your website that the clan is only a couple of weeks old too and judging by your conduct I'd say it seems about right ......
