What are you looking forward to on the Steam Workshop?
applejaxc replied to SomeCallMeNomad (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
The Workshop is going to beat a dead horse with its own gravestone. Prepare yourself for gameBreakingPoint, Borigins, Crapviana, Lingbor, Namalsk (I actually like that one, kind of... not really. More like NOPElsk)... -
LIAR! the video is 1:01!!

I like the M4 (with a fire axe) on its own; I spend a lot of time in cities, where the 4x sight and semi-auto + 30 round magazine is more useful than a bolt-action and a long range scope. The suppressor is a 100% cosmetic item ATM, *because its dispersion factor makes your bullet one one-billionth % more accurate. The compensator narrows bullet spread (last I heard), but should (eventually) work like a real compensator in the future. I don't know if their affect on accuracy is dependant on condition or not.

In the survival-horror genre (which is what DayZ is failing at but that's besides the point), bolt-action rifles are cool as hell. The m107 is guaranteed 1-hit kill no matter where it hits a player/zombie to its maximum distance. It will 1-shot cars and helicopters. The Lapua (if I believe correctly? haven't played any MOD mods in a while!) is also a 1-hit kill no matter what, or at least 1 hit kill everything other than, say, feet and hands. It won't total vehicles in 1 hit (but will still damage most), and its rate of fire is no where near that of the semi-automatic. It's main advantage, however, is that it doesn't make nearly as much noise! Players will have to be closer to hear the gunshot sound and zombies have to be closer to aggro.

To be a little more clear: 1: Offline play is not supported at the moment (and isn't planned). The closest you can get to emulating it is to run your own, 1-person, password-protected server. At the moment, private servers of that kind are not supported either. 2: 1PP means you can only play in first person. If you want to get sweet panoramic shots of your character with the sun rising behind him, play regular. If you want to play a little more realistically/immersively, play hardcore.

You cheated. You can't play anymore. Get a new Steam account, try again.

Dumbarse. A quick google of "Phil00" brings up [omitted because I'll get in trouble for naming the website].

BE is as reliable an anti-cheat as I've ever had to deal with, as far as not misbanning (there's obviously plenty of examples of failing to ban people who do deserve it, but that's besides the point). He cheated, he's bad at games, don't waste your breath.

Logging out and logging back in? The only way that's a possible punishment for not "sleeping" enough is that you have to wait half an hour to log out, and sometimes it's really hard to find a good place to log out/"sleep" (the first of which makes it stupid, the latter of which makes it worthwhile) I like Dangerous Ray's sleep system. If you don't have an alarm or watch, you can't control how long you sleep.

TreHard? More like Tres Bad! Get it? If you speak French you do. Stay away from badmins.

Oh no! A generic inception joke about a generic complaint about a generic complaint about a generic complain!!
-
Oh no a generic complaint!

I don't feel like there's any dispersion problems with any of the weapons in DayZ. If you don't suck, you'll hit what you're aiming at.

DayZ is a fantastic example of what PlanetSide2 FFA would look like.

OMG how many people are going to upload videos of how much better their PCs are?

Well-disguised advertisement. Nice. :)

Shouldn't I be getting MUCH higher FPS?
applejaxc replied to KinetiC.iB's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Crossfire/SLI is the combination of two or more AMD gpus or Nvidia gpus (respectively) being used in tandem to achieve a higher calculation speed (FPS). The problem with this is that, while powerful, requires the parent companies to release updates to teach their GPUs how to work together in different games, as well as the game designers themselves making their game capable of being rendered by two GPUs. While it sounds like it should be as easy as "I turn on the other GPU, my FPS should double," it isn't. Nvidia has refused to release updates to make their GPUs better with ArmA 3, and was veeery slow to do so with ArmA 2 and Operation Arrowhead. I expect they will use the excuse (as will AMD) "DayZ is in the pre-alpha phase, it won't be complete for another 2 years, so we're going to take 3 to release any updates." When that happens, you will see an improvement of 3-5 frames, but it is entirely in Bohemia Interactive's ballpark to make their engine handle dual graphic solutions. It's awful, but they're basically stretched between ArmA 3 and ArmA 2.5 (being used in 3 and DayZ Standalone, respectively) and seem to have their design experts focusing on adding new features or game development, rather than long-overdue refinement of the engine. There is a tremendous gap between how much your GPU is used and how much your CPU is used in ArmA-engine titles compared to other games, and even then less than 100% of available computing resources are utilized effectively, meaning a $1,000 CPU might only use 50% of its power, while an i5-XXXwhatever could use 98% and an i3 might only take a 2% load (all of those numbers are made up for the sake of example) -

Your video card isn't all that good... ...and SLI/Crossfire doesn't work with ArmA-engine games.
