I think I should rephrase. No one walks around the forest on the edge of Cherno/hangs out on rooftops with a sniper rifle. I DO keep a sniper rifle with me whenever I can, in my backpack, with enough ammo to make it useful. I like being able to scope out something before I go to it, and in ArmA, binoculars are SUPER inconvenient for anything. It's dumb not to take a sniper rifle when you've got backpack room on the basis of, "Sniper rifles aren't good for zombies in this game." In the SA, however... sniper rifles are going to be useful when there's a finite number of zombies, 'eh?

The only time I ever change skins is when I become a hero; the camo looks stupid and the Ghillie makes you look like a bandit. That's besides the point: I will KoS any sniper rifle but the CZ, because as DayZ is now, NO ONE needs a sniper rifle for anything but killing players. The CZ spawns in barns and other places that fresh spawns loot, however, so CZ doesn't (necessarily) scream bandit. However, I will kill people with CZs if they are outside of my comfort zone. And by that I mean, if I am behind someone, or I've got a better weapon at close range when I meet someone with a CZ, I won't shoot them if they respond in direct chat to my "Hello, I'm friendly." The reason is, I'm fairly confident I can take them on (the CZ is just slow enough I can beat a moderately skilled player who has one). If they're at sniping range, however, you can bet their ass is grass; I don't trust someone at superior range with a ranged weapon.

I know it's shitty. And Chernarus isn't remote. Where there's ex clients, there's crime. I'm not trying to defend the Deagle as a good weapon.

Are we watching the same interviews and devblogs? And why wouldn't there be a Desert Eagle? Are you saying there isn't a single Cherno-Russian with exotic taste, there are no crime syndicates that would be interested in a loud, scary sidearm?

Not from all around the world, no. But he said a lot of modern, western-market rifles will have influence (like the ruger 700, which doesn't belong in a soviet ex client)

The hell is wrong with the Desert Eagle? Or the smaller, .45 cousin, the Double Eagle? Anyway: Rocket has pretty much confirmed civilian pistols, hasn't he?

Hi. So I've gotten just about everything working to get the game up to 1.7.7, and can't wait to use my crossbow on some unsuspecting players, but my mysql is having trouble. Whenever the server loads the mission (with the first player joining the game), CMD says "Cannot find dayz.data.object" and similar files, then crashes and the server program crashes. I've tried putting the various new .sql files from the hive patch download in every imaginable place, and no luck. The hive can't access "Missing tables," which won't let the server start. Where do I put my new .sqls?

No. And updating the beta doesn't have anything to do with .sql data tables...

Realistically, a .45 to the leg or chest would knock you on your stomach/ass respectively, but most people would fine the M1911 overpowered.

Rocket has already not only said that the INFECTED are not undead, but that the infected will ALWAYS run. I like the idea of slow zombies, too, but these aren't zombies.

I'm sorry, but that's just stupid. Infected and undead are completely different. A virulent, rage-inducing disease has taken over a host, causing them to go violently insane and attack fellow humans. Undead zombies are inexplicably controlled by solanum, a virus that enlarges the frontal lobe and removes the body's dependence of all things but decay. One creates a pissed off creature with full human abilities, one creates a shambling, uncoordinated idiot. Anyway: I sat down with a friend and changed the DayZ configs around to create "Zombies," slowing them down as much as possible. The only skins that worked were the civilian ones, for whatever reason (we couldn't get zombies of any soldiers). We also added zombie AI to a tank, which crashed the game every 10 minutes or so... but it made a pretty exciting 10 minutes! Slow-as-hell zombies made walking through Cherno a laughable experience at best. We set them to essentially walking speed, and never had to bandage on a test loot run until we got bored and shot at each other.
