If I'm a fresh spawn that somehow found a mosin and a box of ammo right before this, and I essentially have nothing to lose, I'd probably try getting a headshot. If we're both completely kitted out, I'd go for the headshot. If I have more gear than the other person, it's bandit time (walk up behind them, attempt to peacefully subdue, otherwise shoot if noncompliant) or if we're both reasonably geared (but not completely) I'd test my luck saying "Hi!" with my gun on them.

I've been one-shot from zombies while at perfect health (which I've never achieved again >.>), helmet, vest, everything. It slapped my M4 hard enough that it got ruined, so my panicked "Oh shi oh shi shoot shoot shoot" just wasted ammo as its second, on-body hit killed me.

You want to be a 25 Charlie (radio operator)? You might get out of that as a non-combat vet, especially being Canadian. 18 Delta is 100% going to see combat; I'd be a Special Forces Medical Officer. If I was an LPN (Licensed Practices Nurse) in the airforce, I'd be in charge of a nursing staff in a military hospital. Chances of seeing combat are pretty low.

I'm trying to go 18 Delta or LPN (I'd rather be a non-combat vet, anyway), and get out as an EMT somewhere near where my mother lives. Conveniently, there's an airforce base pretty nearby I could get stationed at for a while, so I'd literally be like a half-hour from home.

Real life tactics, whether they be military, police officer, or anything else, do not translate to DayZ.

For realism's sake: When you respawn, and become your new character, you're assuming the life of a survivor that has somehow survived X amount of time in the ZApocalypse, and has been reduced to his/her shirt, pants, flashlight, batteries (and donator perks, if you play on a bad server!). The fact that you're alive and not being shot at, means you've escaped/avoided the west end of Chernarus. It makes perfect sense not to "start the game" there; a survivor's story wouldn't start there.

Rain is stopping zombies from spawning? I guess rain = a lot of server stress (zombie spawns are supposed to be dynamic, to save system resources if the server can't handle more than X zombies, from my understanding).

I really don't understand why anyone would be stingy during the apocalypse. It's durable, it's warm, it's fire and bite proof, you're well protected from small stabbing implements (knives) and blunt attacks (hammers, et cetera), and it stays dry no matter how thick the rain. Except during a hot summer, or for someone that needs ultimate mobility, a fireman's jacket (at the least!) is a really great choice. Fireman pants + suspenders and boots means a zombie crawling in high grass you don't see won't rip a massive fucking chunk out of your ankle, saving your life. And finally, if you meet another survivor, you can say "Hey I was a fireman before the Zapocalypse, so I'm a good guy." As soon as they trust you, BAM! Fireaxe to the head. Same thing if dressed as a police officer or (friendly) soldier.

Look up uniform mods for ArmA 2/OA, make sure people wanting to joint he server know what the mods are/where to get them.

How much do you suck? The SKS needs to be nerfed, if anything, especially vs its real life counterpart. The muzzle blast isn't nearly bright enough at night.

The water pump should set you at the maximum wetness if you're hit and waterlog all your supplies, making it a useless bandit tool but an effective suppression one. Driver should not be able to operate it.

A dozen per server? That's a world record, I think. Good luck finding 1 nowadays.

Dean "Rocket" Hall has explicitly stated he will never plan to included NPCs to DayZ. Zombies and animals will be the only inhuman entities populating the landscape. When private servers and crap mods come out for DayZSA, you can expect to see plenty of mods adding AI survivors/bandits/et cetera so 5 year olds renting servers with their mom's credit cards don't feel so lonely.

LamEpoch or Borigins (Epoch or Origins) You have very little hope of finding a good DayZ server, let alone a "special" one that isn't run by "Special" admins.

You cannot build houses in DayZ. You can build houses in MODS of the DayZ mod. Yes, DayZ is all you need to play DayZ if you have A:CO (ArmA Combined Operations)

Because a 10 second respawn is bull. "Damn, I died. Oh well. Better respawn, sprint back to my camping spot, and batter that guy to get my loot back" is stupid as stupid can be.
