Okay... So I'm going to start by saying DayZ and normal ArmA are very different experiences. That being said: I'd suggest buying ArmA 3 and learning A3's gameplay mechanics to be better prepared for DayZ SA's (the SA engine will be closer in function to ArmA 3's than 2's). It's fun (if you play with a crap ton of mods, like me), and it has like 3 different zombie mods (2017, DZA3, Dynamic Zbox). If you're only interested in zombies and DayZ, however, sorry mate. But if you want to see what ArmA 3 looked like about 2 million updates ago, i've still got a ArmA 3 alpha key. I'm not sure if I can share it, though; it did expire like two months ago.

Chernarus, the unasked questions
applejaxc replied to Hetstaine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The bottom of the ocean or one of Chernarus' lakes, probably. I'm not very good at driving. -
Chernarus, the unasked questions

Why can't I open a door without breaking my legs? Who added invisible rungs to the tops of ladders? -
BEST LONE WOLF SERVERS/ GROUP SERVER with CUSTOM REALISM MODS!!
applejaxc replied to PhysiksFPS's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
If it's welcome to all kinds of players, why not say "ALL PLAYERS WELCOME" Or something otherwise less sensationalistic as naming the two major play styles? -
BEST LONE WOLF SERVERS/ GROUP SERVER with CUSTOM REALISM MODS!!
applejaxc replied to PhysiksFPS's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Why do you need to split "Lone wolf" and "group" into separate experience servers? Why can't I don't both on either server I do so choose to play on? -
I've got a nice 6 foot hole I can trade you. I'll even throw in a bullet or two--fired, of course.

What's Your Character's Background?
applejaxc replied to King of kong's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've written my character's background too many times. Let's see... I'll just do highlights: Ex "Orley" (of the Ukrainian Special Police), 4 years of military service, contracted to Chenaran police work, got stuck in Chernarus when the CDF-NATO-whatever other group conflict broke out. After the US/BAF pulled out, he was getting ready to leave when the virus broke out. He's trying to restore police/military/governmental order. -
The ONLY thing it would do is make the game easier. I don't give a damn how much harder it is to sneak past them, if they can't run they aren't a threat.
-
Everyone would just play on walking zombie maps...
-
Just disable someone's ability to loot their own body. (the only way around it would be if you know you're going to die, dropping all of your stuff as quickly as possible. But that just makes a huge, inconvenient mess for the killer and probably won't leave a lot of stuff behind for you anyway)

Is a CPU heat of 65c (about 150 fahrenheit) and hard disk of 40c (about 100f) healthy for a laptop? I usually put my laptop on top of the Monster Manual, DM Guide, or Player's Hand Book (because I have D&D rulebooks all over my desk) and make sure the fan doesn't have anything directly under it. That usually takes of 5-10 f's (I don't know how much cooler that makes it celsius-wise)

No, for me it's more like, "Hey if I help you do this, I want your M9/Fal/DMR/etc in return." And I genuinely attempt to help them have fun accomplishing their goal. And then I shoot them with the gun they give me. I try not to do it to new players too much...

I'm sorry my suggestions didn't help, Remlap, but that's all I could think of. Have you compiled a ridiculous "-maxframesahead=0 -gpucount=X -threadcount=X -nologs -whatever -whatever -whatever" for ArmA 2/3? I'm desperate for every frame I can get, and that will take me from 15-ish to 25-ish (replace X with the amount of threads/CPU cores/whatever) Also... now probably isn't the best time, but would you like to play test some ArmA 3 missions I've put on the workshop? :)
-
ArmA does this to me literally all the time. While my laptop isn't nearly as good as your computer seems to be, I'll go from 40-ish to 5 and not be able to play. I usually set up Advanced Systemcare (free from IObit) and tell it to scan/clean/fix my PC, defragment, then shut my PC off. Everything is all quick and clean after that. If that doesn't work, I'll run CCleaner (also free) in lieu. Use a program like Razor Booster to defragment the game's directory and tell Steam to do a file verification. It's usually pure coincidence, but that's improved my performance as well.

For me? I hate, absolutely HATE babysitting a vehicle or a camp; I'm all mobile on foot. I only hoard what I can carry. For me, the fun way of playing is shoot every-other-person you meet, otherwise say hi and act friendly for an hour or so, and then kill them.
-
I use both. I also use MS BTN #10 (a thumb button on my mouse) to "use action 17" so I can switch weapons while moving.

It can't be E, R, G, or F; thus, it can't really be put on a convenient button. It's already on SPACE and MDLE CLICK so...
-
It's not supposed to. At least, I THINK it's a joke post...

Okay but I want to play a Cleric. I don't want to be a nub wizard. >.>

Create the official dayZ mod server
applejaxc replied to Jimmy McNulty's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
There ALREADY ARE PUBLIC (OFFICIAL) SERVERS... Are you new, or...? -
DayZ player made to sing "Never gonna give you up" at gunpoint
applejaxc replied to Cobs's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
You bastard. You bloody, bloody bastard. We do NOT speak of Borderlands 2. This is a forum for good games. (although the D&D-inspired DLC for BL2 was amazing) -
There are, but not in the form that you might think of them. I don't remember their names (there used to be Siberian Tigers for example, but they all died). I know there's some kind of "Black Coyote" in East Europe (the only reason I know is because a few years ago someone had written a fake article about how East European wild dogs "proved" that canines and felines were closely related. He photoshopped a bunch of pictures of European large-breed cats to have more canine features and dubbed his creation the "Black Coyote" It was like this but bigger)

Your gear will be safe. Don't worry buddy. ;)

What does it mean by " Private Hive " ?
applejaxc replied to DyanmicPowers's topic in New Player Discussion
If you get a gun on one public (official) server and then go to another public server, you will still have your gun. If you get a gun on one private (unofficial server) and then change to another server, you will not have your gun anymore. Private hives usually suck; the Admins (owners) cheat-spawn all their gear in and "players" (cheaters) pay "donations" for "donator benefits" (money for free stuff) -
I'll go easy on you, since guessing by this is only your second post, you probably haven't been around long: Dean "Rocket" Hall (the mod's figure head) has discussed animal diversity, and the problem is this: The ArmA engine sucks. I'll just go ahead and say it. It's old and it's not as robust as it could be. It's a LOT of fun, but it was designed for people shooting at other people in forests; the fact that the game has zombies in it is absolutely incredible. Animals are really hard to do in the ArmA engine. Their character skeletons have to be designed from scratched and they have to be fully animated/given a coded AI so that they aren't the 2-trick (and stupid as hell) goats that are already in the game. The suggestion for more animals has been made several times. That doesn't make it your post bad; I can see that you're new. But it's been suggested a lot and already debunked as not going to be a development focus for a LONG time into the stand alone. The problem with thicker forests is the fact that a lot of players *already* have trouble running the game on medium-high end PCs with the trees already in game. And finally: NO TEAM FEATURES! IT IS A REALISM SIMULATIOIN, NOT A FPS TITLE! Team killing happens A LOT in real life; friendly fire has a name for a reason. It's not Rocket's fault if uncoordinated and undisciplined "Team members" can't work together.
