I think they'd be too easy to fuck up. No offense to Rocket and his team, but ArmA 2 already experimented with Alsatians and... well it didn't end well. In fact, the whole section of the game where they planned to incorporate dog units to BLUFOR got scrapped because the engine doesn't do animals. I love the concept of surviving the apocalypse with a good German Shepherd, but they wouldn't actually enhance the game. 1. If they can bark, they can get you shot 2. If they can move independently, you know they aren't going to take cover 3. If they can attack, you know all the current problems with zombies are going to be x10000 for them

Is anyone else finding current stable build.. well, unplayable?
applejaxc replied to Forrelist's topic in General Discussion
This is a recent problem for you? I've pretty much swore off of DayZSA until at least the end of the year. I'm getting by DayZ fix with ArmA 3 Breaking Point (never thought I'd say that; I hate BP), Unturned, and Contagion, plus Survive the Nights will be out sooner than later -
How do you veterans start a fresh spawn? ( dayZ SA)
applejaxc replied to killbot420's topic in New Player Discussion
DayZDB is cheating and I feel like it makes my experience diminished. I really enjoy exploration. If the map in Oblivion was a little less empty, I'd disable fast travel and only use the local map. I also think that suiciding until you get a favorable spawn is bullshit. What's the point in having random spawn if you're removing the random? The disorientation and map exploration associated with starting in the middle of who-knows-where is exciting! When I start recognizing spawns, I stop having fun. If I get a spawn where I know really good loot is in one direction, I'll run in a different direction. There's 1 spawn that takes you to a barn and a house, so there's an axe, crossbow, Mosin, SKS, or food, and there's a pump nearby. Never seen more than 1 zombie there, usually none, and it's almost never looted. Keep running north, there's an industrial center, and there's more houses if you want to risk zombie agro. Keep going north there's one of the new towns, where I have never seen another player. There's a hospital and good places to find melee weapons, so at least by the time you leave that house you're armed. Keep going north (literally going in a straight line this whole time) there's an under-construction building. If you can't get a backpack and a firearm by then, there's something wrong with you. Zombies aren't a threat because they can't really attack you in that building, and if they follow you up, get stuck when you run away. There's 2 barns next to it, so there's all the clothes you need. Still going north, you can go north-west to hit the NWAF or north-east to hit the beached ship wreckage and the town south of it. I've made this run at least a dozen times, during the day and night, on medium-full servers, and I've never run into another player doing it until the final section. This is the method I will continue using until the combat mechanics are fixed, hackers are minimized, and random deaths aren't so common (as long as the game is broken, I have no moral issue with "Loot runs." Server hopping is still bullshit noob tactics though) -
If they added a MP5/10 (a 10mm version of the MP5) to DayZ, that'd be my go-to backup weapon. What they really need is a 125-round Mosin though.

There's a mod for ArmA 3 that allows you to take ammunition from one magazine and put it in another. I consider it a must-have with that game; even when I only have 2 magazines, I'll reload as often as I can. In games like Halo or Borderlands, I reload as soon as something dies (even if more things are shooting at me and I have more than 50% ammo)
-
1. Calm down 2. Spam firing as in, firing as quickly as possible, valuing volume over accuracy.
-
Lol I'm on an HD 3000... It's not fun (all low = 15fps) Soon I'll be on a HD 4600 though. Then I'll be cool...
-
No. I actually like how difficult it is to use the bolt-action. In fact, I wish NO weapon used the R key for anything. You should be forced to open your inventory, find another magazine, and put it in your gun. It promotes good inventory management and discourages spam-firing. It also means that when you think your enemy is reloading, it's more significant than a 4 second pause in their gunfire.

Your points, refreshingly, aren't stupid. I commend you for making the internet a better place, and apologize for trying to counter your argument at 2 AM. I'm pretty sure the Californian company went out of business (I was googling what I thought its name was for like three hours, and couldn't even find a Wikipedia entry), and among that my other facts were wrong. Weapons like the MP5 ("universal" ones) do make sense in just about any settings. In fact, I'm pretty sure I've seen recent news footage with Ukranians fighting with them (What's that Youtube news channel? It's really exciting. It used to be in my "What to watch" all the time...). The thread, however,, is "New civilian weapons" not "New joint-op advancing the world through shared technological achievement weapons." While it's important the barracks, et cetera, maintain a healthy selection of modern firearms, that isn't the point of the thread. We both got off topic a bit too much.

Three things that completely ruin the DayZ experience...
applejaxc replied to Daricles's topic in New Player Discussion
1. I don't know if you should ever preface your words of wisdom with "Bro" 2. KoS, while an essential representation of the depravity of humans, is-like any good thing-only good in the right amounts. If you can think back (or forward, guessing by the "Bro") to highschool chemistry, and the term supersaturation, that's exactly what DayZ achieved; between crap like TeamCheat3 and players uses scripts to become invulnerable or spawn in gear, there's little value in trying to play the game the "Right way" (the way the game designers seem to think their game will be played). Many a forumer will say that the game is oversaturated with KoS "Banditry," but really the game is supersaturated with it; it has gone past capacity, and is so soaked up in it that there's no room for for anything else... right now. As long as the game's in (pre-)alpha, playing the "Right way" is rather pointless. There's too many glitches/bugs/cheaters to make emotionally or chronolly investing in your character worth the effort. KoS-ing has the potential to keep you alive longer, so you can spend time learning the game/map instead of just surviving. But KoS, in the state it is now, prevents any other kind of play. Not even legitimate bandits can do their jobs (holding you up at gunpoint, et cetera) because asshole players would rather attempt to hatchet the bandit in a 500 meter charge than stick their hands up like a sensible, realistic human being who knows they aren't going to win the encounter. -
"Crime guns" are weapons that are cheap and easy to obtain (made en masse instead of being made of quality) that couldn't possibly fulfill the traditional uses of firearms (hunting, marksman competitions). Things like the Beryll-9 (or whatever the Californian gun is) are expected to last less than 500 rounds and their manufacturers intentionally flood the black market for profit. The Tec-9 can be made in a workshop illegally without difficulty, but there's better examples. In WW2, Britain designed a submachine gun that was literally a metal tube with a handle that fired bullets, which, while crude and useless to any self-respecting, law-abiding citizen, outfitted the ranks of anti-German resistances all over west Europe. There's similar examples from a lot of ex-USSR nations, notably Slovakia, who had to design cheap, home-made firearms out of desperation. As a direct result, coupled with the poverty of east europe, criminals were better equipped with automatic weapons than the police (in cities that were lucky enough to have them) or local law. Those are the kinds of weapons that should populate DayZ, along with Mosins, AKs, and other Russian weapons.

I am planning to (eventually) order a custom laptop from XoticPC. In particular, I want the Sager NP8278-s; it seemed like the cheapest way to get the new 880M and 16GB of RAM. Along with the important bits (CPU/GPU/etc), the purchase will include copper heatsinks and the IC thermal coolant addons. While I'll also eventually purchase a fan, I want to keep this laptop cold... or at least as cold as I can. Resolution: 1920x1080CPU: i7 4810MQGPU: GTX 880M (8GB)RAM: 16GB DDR3 1600MHz (2x8).SSD? The Sager can fit 2 SSDs and 2 HDDs (and sometimes another, meaning 2+2+1). The OS (Windows 8.1) will a 120GB Crucial M5 mSATA SSD (it's unlikely-less than a 0.0001% chance-I'll buy 2 and put them in RAID-0), but my games will be installed to a 1TB 7200RPM SATAII. I don't know how it makes a difference in game performance but the OP asks for it. This laptop (no, desktop is not an option) is intended for regular heavy gaming (2014-2016 games at high/ultra). FarCry 4, ArmA 3, and DayZ are expected to be played fluently at high/mixed settings. While 16GB is easily excessive for video games, I expect to be spending a lot of time editing 1080p videos in Sony Vegas as well as photoshop. I expect the 880M's CUDA + the 4810MQ should be able to render 1080p <30 minute videos in under 2 hours? I don't know what to expect there. And a more general PC question: Would it be better to record to my SSD or my HDD? I don't want to run the TRIM command every time I finish a 15GB project and delete the recording from my SSD. Is 7200RPM (3gb/s) enough to record 60FPS, 1080p? 720p?

Other than "Crime guns" (like the cheap-ass Brellco or Brellyco or whatever the company is in California), it doesn't make sense for American-civilian weapons to litter the Chernorussian landscape. I wish members of the forums would differentiate civilian and would-be-military-grade-to-chernorussia... As someone above said, there's plenty of lore-friendly civilian firearms to add to the game before knock-off AR15s. As much as I want a Genghis, Beowulf, or some kind of wildcat AR15 to mow down zombies with, it makes a hell of a lot more sense for AK47s, 74s, et cetera to be the focus of the game.

When did they make DayZ look so awful?
applejaxc replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
I agree with the OP. Playing on an integrated card (I know, that's painful to read for many of you) I've run the game on the lowest settings I can from launch to now. I've noticed my performance and visual quality degrade. Shadows look like they could slice bread, things are a little washed out (from starting health), and animations are less fluid between some updates, without me changing my settings in-game or tweaking my cfg. -
That is literally the best argument I have ever heard on the Internet.
-
In a country like Chernarus, you'd be able to find private supplies of fuel in homes and whatnot well after. It'd be hard, but possible. As far as keeping a car working, the kind that would be available in Chernarus means yes, it'd be pretty hard to keep anything working. I personally hate vehicles and everyone that has one in DayZ.
-
No. FIrst of all, you didn't look very hard; there's been several threads on this topic. Second, as mentioned above, many times a player isn't in control of where and when s/he logs out. Most of the time I log out, it's "Oh crap I need to go, well hopefully I won't die next time I log in," and log out wherever I am. This includes in the middle of looting firestations and airfields. It is stupid to punish people that can't block out several hours to play a game and log out on schedule when they haven't done anything wrong.
-
Well, new species are constantly discovered. A solid number is hard to provide.
-
Because ArmA. Bad design
-
Take a deep breath, play something like The Forest or Dangerous Rays in the mean time. ArmA has always had bad multiplayer PvP, sadly. Things will get worse before they get better with DayZ.
-
Go to Berezino. You'll find 60/40 players... and be shot immediately.

If you're spinning left, rotate right, if you're spinning right, rotate left?

I envy pilots that can recover from a failed back rotor. The best I can do is have a "Controlled crash," where I hit and immediately send the chassis to the red but get out only half-dead.
