    Vodnik 1000 foot cliff fall

The Vodnik, man... I once (as a fresh spawn) jumped into a helicopter that had landed in Cherno on a near-empty server. I sat in the back, hiding, and was disappointed to not find any loot in it. So the (likely bandit) team jumps back in and flies off. Suddenly: "Who the hell is in the back seat?" They decided a dive-bomb (after everyone but the pilot bailed) was the best way to dail with me. The Huey hit the ground nose-first, bounced, flew for a little bit, then hit some trees. The only things that were hurt were my legs (which broke ;( ) and the pilot's neck XD
  2. So you can't take the effort to even shorten with correctly (w/) and you expect people to think you're going to be a worthy teammate?

    PhysX Doors?

Do you currently have to do so? I don't have that problem; I just flatten myself against the door until the option pops up. I hate ladders that make you waste half an hour to climb.

That's normal for DayZ to mess up.

    PhysX Doors?

You missed... like... a lot. Shooting something something so that it cannot lock closed applies to car doors only. ONLY car doors being SHOT by a GUN. I said *NOTHING* about having to aim at a specific part of a door to open it.

    PhysX Doors?

Are you saying that if I shoot my fence in any plank, that will open the gate? If I shoot my door dead in the center, it will unlock...? PhysX, I believe, is owned by Nvidia. It's a leased use thing, like if I wanted to make a game that used PhysX, I'd be like, "Hey Nvidia. I'm making this thing. Here's some money." Coincidentally, PhysX runs best on GeForce cards (made by Nvidia) and games that use PhysX say as part of the opening credits sequence "Powered by Nvidia PHSYX"
  8. DayZ has considerably slowed down on its acquiring of new players from several months ago, but look at how many "Is it worth buying the game now or waiting?" threads that get started every single day. I see at least 2, and I'm here pretty frequently. So yes there's a large player base (when did they break 2 million unique players?), and it is still growing.

You can't fire an RPG in a helicopter; the backblast would kill everyone.

I'm developing different methods of expression. The internet (specifically these forums) tends to be a very good medium whilst this is an easy topic to cover. So, yes and no.

    Dual Magazine Guns

Hi. So I used to be a big Shadowrunner, or rather, a player of a pen-and-paper, dice-and-dungeons RPG called "Shadowrun," in which you (usually) played as a criminal/mercenary/hired gun, and could be a magician, cyber-powered what-the-fuck, and all sorts of other cool things. My two favorite things in the game to do were 1, shoot things with a Browning Deputy HP revolver with stun rounds, because I felt like a badass using the pistol and because 6e stun damage is A LOT in Shadowrun. The other thing I loved to do was snipe, thus a lot of my characters were high-mobility, high-perception, high-damage stealth ninjas. My favorite sniper rifle, when we weren't fighting 70 foot tall Armadillos in what-used-to-be-Texas, was the Enforcer. Unfortunately, I cannot find a picture. I can, however, explain what made it so cool: Dual magazines. Now, the obvious benefit of the dual-magazine system is 40-60 rounds of ammo before you have to reload. That's pretty awesome, but that's not what makes the Enforcer so special. The very overlooked benefit of the dual-magazine system is the ability to change your firepower on-the-fly for whatever crazy system you run into, whether you suddenly come across a berserking troll wielding a minigun or there's a magically-shielded mage running around. That guy is wearing body armor? AP That guy is wearing no body armor? HP We don't want to kill that guy? Stun rounds We need to shoot through a wall? HPDP Imagine being able to carry a combination of any 2 ammunition types. You'll never be caught with your pants down! The benefit of this system is obvious for DayZ. I've already suggested you simply put 2 ammunition types+ into one magazine, so you alternate between AP and HP or whatever in the order you loaded them, but as someone that has tried to mod ArmA before, I know it'd be a pain in the ass, and the current hierarchy of "The highest loaded magazine is loaded" would not translate well to 2+ ammunition-loaded magazines. How it would be implemented: CNTRL + F would cycle which magazine is used. Only the currently used magazine is reloaded when reloading. Pros: Dual purpose magazines can help you switch between car/armored targets and normal ones effectively SD-to-not-SD when the time for killing zombies is over and the time for killing players is starting Only use 1 magazine while at range, switch to back-up magazine if you're unexpectedly CQC attacked Cons: EXTREMELY high magazine sizes (unless it is split 10-and-10?) Very strong advantage over non-DM weapons Only having 1 magazine on your body could bug out the system if the coding isn't careful! Notes before you critique me: Very rare. No more than ~2 weapons should use this system (maybe a pistol/rifle and a sniper rifle?) No special criteria for a magazine to be dual-loaded; as long as it is compatible with weapon it is loaded into I understand magazine sizes 15+ would be ridiculously big

    Dual Magazine Guns

Okay, let me rephrase: Imagine having the option, through grueling hours of looting that will more likely leave you with typhoid and a broken leg than anything, that you may potentially find a firearm with the capability of relieving some of the possible, potential problems in the game, if you are able to manage your inventory and collect the ammo necessary for the aforementioned item to function properly. Happy?

    Dual Magazine Guns

I'm a huge D&D fan, man. I love me those Kobolds... until freaking 4e ruined it with overpowered, invincible characters and piss-ass Dragons that don't have a breath attack, can't fly, or do magic. I mean... what the fuck is the point of being scared of a large scaly thing if it can't hurt you? Anyway: dual magazine weapons already exist for military and police use, but not civilian. Dual magazine = 2 different magazines loaded, not an extended magazine. It is 2 magazines, not 1. 200%, not 150% The KSG is the example I was going to use. For combat KSG uses (which aren't common), the 2-tube system maximizes magazine size. For police-issue (I'd never heard of it before I got interested in Special Weapons and Tactics teams [sWAT] a long time ago) it's usually so door breaching rounds and less-than-lethal rounds cna be loaded together.

    My Zombie Apocalypse Dream Gear

HKMP2K ignores all of your problems. It's suppressed with normal 9mm rounds. Common and quiet. Stop playing Battlefield you asshole. XD You obviously didn't read the first post (mine), which completely invalidates your argument. It is suppressed regardless of the use of cold-loaded (SD) ammunition. It fires 9mm. It is small, will a collapsing stock and telescoping bolt. He said Redneck. Redneck = nudey books (Playboy, Hustler, etc)

Why DayZ will fail as a standalone game

Not to play devil's advocate... 1: I completely agree with BFs stance on no modding, from the business point of view. You know what? I'm tired of singing into TF2 (or was, before I stopped playing altogether) and having to look at a naked woman or a penis every time I got to the, "Welcome to our server" screen. There are other games with other actual gave-changing mod problems, but that's probably one of the worse outcomes of private servers, other than DayZ's PHs. 2: I remember when I heard about dogs being added, I was... not delighted. I am a dog fan. I love dogs. My ultimate dream-goal, aside from multitrillionair whatever, is to have some kind of well-domesticated wolf-German Shepherd type dog, and fvck whatever Homeowner's Association doesn't like it. :) The only thing I look forward to about dogs in a zombie apocalypse survival game, is shooting one that someone else tries to sick on me, sadly; I just couldn't take care of one.

  21. This is a general discussion of DayZ weapons. ALL OPINIONS WILL BE RESPECTD. There will be several rounds of discussion to this topic. I will start by comparing and contrasting pistols, and work myself to LMGs or AMRs or whatever I feel like should come last. The discussion will stay only on that brand of weapons that I have posted for until such a time as I change topics; I want this comparison to be coherent for new players, rather than everyone talking about all sorts of different things. Try to refrain from abbreviations and words that new players don't yet know (KoS, agro). A Comparison of Pistols and Sidearms G17: The G17 (Glock, model 17) is a military/police-issue pistol that fires 9mm parabellum ammunition. It is not incredibly loud, but it is incredibly weak; the 17-bullet magazines won't drop a player without a headshot. The large magazine, however, can make them effective against zombies; don't trust your G17 to save you from a bandit. Like all pistols, it is semi-automatic, and fires as fast as you can click. It is also pretty accurate at short distances, with minimum recoil. I personally am not a fan of the G17; it holds plenty of ammo per magazine, but it is the second weakest weapon in the whole game, or at least the second least effective. It is unsuppressed, making its usefulness against zombies dubious at best. You can go through 2 magazines (34 bullets!) and still not kill someone. M1911: The M1911 (Model 1911) is an American service pistol used extensively in WW2. It fires .45ACP, though you cannot find any magazines for it; you have to convert .45 cylinders (for revolvers) into M1911 ammo by right-clicking and choosing, "Combine for XXX". That's not so bad; the 7-round magazines do almost twice the damage of a G17 and ammo is fairly common. The gun is loud, however, and is innaccurate for rapid-fire; zombies will hear you and if you spam the trigger, you'll miss most of your shots. Headshots are always one-hit-kills on zombies, though I wouldn't suggest using it over a supressed weapon. If you absolutely have to use it, aim for the chest. M9: The M9 is a more modern pistol by Beretta, an Italian company, used today by police and the US military. It fires 9mm rounds like the G17, and has almost exactly the same stats, except it takes 1 more shot to kill a player than the G17 and is about a million times rarer, both as a weapon and its ammo. I'm personally a bigger fan of the M9 than the G17, however; there's a great placebo affect of thinking you have a better gun when you aren't holding a block of plastic that spits bullets. But really, if you're knew and you have to choose between a G17 and an M9, the G17 is probably a better choice. M9 SD: SD means supressed; the gun is quiet and doesn't attract zombie attention as long as you use M9SD ammunition (which is more rare than normal M9 ammo!). It has almost no recoil and will kill a zombie with 3 shots to the chest. Don't expect it to kill a bandit, however; pistols are never a good choice when killing a player. Makarov PM: Supposedly the most commonly found pistol in DayZ, the makarov is a Russian service pistol slowly being phased out by Izmash and other competing Russian arms manufacturers. I personally call the Makarov a kettle pot; when you first get one, your excitement simmers until the bursting point, when you think you can kill every zombie in Elektro!- and then die. The Makarov isn't exceptionally loud, but it can take 6-8 rounds to kill a zombie or player, has the most recoil, and only holds 8 rounds per magazine. If you think a makarov makes you god, you're an idiot; the Makarov will make you dead sooner than anything. STAY AWAY FROM THE MAKAROV (except for emergencies). PDW: The "Personal Defence Weapon" is essentially an Uzi, from Israel. They're commonly seen as illegally converted automatics in the hands of gangsters and criminals. It holds 15-30 rounds of ammo (it accepts a few different magazine types) and has the same damage of a G17, but can be fired automatically, making it a good close-range tool against players. Headshots kill in 1-2 hits on zombies. The iron sights are its only major drawback; the Uzi was designed for CQC in cities, thus it does not provide very good awareness of your surroundings. Aiming down the sights will limit you accuracy to close-range attacks. Revolver: Firing the 45ACP like the M1911, the revolver is perhaps the second worst weapon on this list; though it has the best range (100m!) of all the weapons, its fire rate is slow and it holds only 6 rounds of ammo. The 3 bullets it takes to kill will attract every zombie from Chernogorsk to Hell's Castle and back; you might as well shoot a flare in the air and yell, "DINNER'S SERVED!" Ammo is fairly common for the revolver, but the M1911 is a better choice; the M1911 holds more ammo per magazine and has better iron-sights, not to mention its a tad bit quieter. This is all written from personal experience, and might not be 100% accurate. If you want the official list: http://www.dayzwiki.com/wiki/Weapons#Sidearms I tried to explain the stats on the wiki page in a way new players could understand. If you have any questions, comments, opinions, or more accurate facts, please reply. I want this forum to be as useful as possible to new players.
  22. So I played DayZ Origins for the first time the day before yesterday, and was struggling to enjoy it (and still am), but I've had a pretty fantastic moment: So I got myself a MP5SD and filled my inventory with magazines, and got rid of my sidearm for bandages and started running around. I was a level whatever Hero, giving me the ghillie suit. I met another hero, who told me about a place called "Hero's Mountain" (what is its actual map name?). He showed me where it was, then logged off. So I integrate with everyone, we have a few laughs, shits and giggles and whatnot. Someone trades me some satchel charges for some MP5SD magazines. Grave mistake. I took a nap at one of the tents and waited around for a lot of people to log in and go about their business, looting their camps and whatnot. I put a satchel charge at a cluster of hero-made houses, which caught a helicopter and truck, then the other charge by an APC. I hid behind the large... barn? Mill? I don't know what the structure was, but there's one at the "Hero Camp." So I go prone and BOOOOOOM, a whooooole bunch of stuff explodes. Several hero deaths. Fire and shrapnel and all that great stuff. I crouch and get a few headshots, then run for cover behind the wrecked APC and go prone to reload. A hero runs around the corner and I ask, "Who the hell is killing us?" "I don't know. I'm going to go check behind the -whatever- building." "Okay!" he turns around, and "pssssst" MP5SD breaks his leg. I back off, loot a body, and throw some smoke grenades around. Everything is chaos. The heros start shooting each other, not knowing who is what or where. Total insanity. I wait a few minutes, hiding behind the helicopter, until the gunfire stops. I mopped up people as they bandaged and morphined. I destroyed hero mountain. Over a dozen deaths are on my hands. I'm a bad person ;(

Why DayZ will fail as a standalone game

As beautiful a thought as that is, there are plenty of people that will be caught in a sea of hype the Christmas after the game is released. (And by plenty of people, I mean young children without jobs or babysitters begging their parents at Christmas for a game they won't play or more than half an hour)

Why DayZ will fail as a standalone game

I repeat: If even half the current unique players buy the supposedly $15 game at release, DZ SA just made 15 million dollars.
