  1. We already have knowledge in game. It's called "not going to Chern and Elektro" at the c+ end of the spectrum through to page down = zero sniper rifle at the A+ side. Making a thread about PvP comes somewhere between an F and finger painting classes.

You might have knowledge, but your character doesn't.

An idea.. maybe medical knowledge could decrease the time to bandage/bloodbag, cooking could increase the amount of blood you get from animal meat, and mechanical could decrease the number of parts you need for a vehicle.

  2. If zombies came about tomorrow' date=' I am not going to magically be rewarded a badge for successfully crawling between zombies for atleast a few hours.

This is making this sound more and more directed, you shouldn't have better 'skill level' than the person who's just respawned, it should be down to the person's skill alone with nothing aiding you like a nanny.

These features suggested over hang the primary concept; do what you need and how you want. A skill and attributes system would IMO make things easier for the individual. The game is meant to be brutal, unforgiving and sadistic in the sense it is designed to watch you reach a peak and make a small error and suffer for it. I believe adding such a system would ruin that concept.

A class system seems to be the exact opposite of what this mod is about, and i see absolutely no real benefit it could have. Keep it as realistic as possible without making it too tedious. No classes in real life, no classes in this mod.

I believe you failed to read his post.

  3. Um, I don't think it's worthwhile to implement things based on your personal vendettas. Spawning near your corpse would only increase griefing. When you spawn you are a new person, and shouldn't have any knowledge of what transpired in your previous character's life.

Edit: Your incentive is to survive.. isn't that enough?

  4. The ability to return to your corpse and pick up where you left off is a common feature in most online games.

In DayZ' date=' as it stands this feature is no different; if you get sniped a mile away by a hawkeyed bandit across a field and he's too lazy to reap his spoils, you can effectively loot your old self and continue where you left off.

Whilst not a dire feature requiring immediate attention I think that players should be unable to loot the corpse of their previous lives; it detracts from immersion and is borderline exploitative of the system.

[i']TLDR; Remove ability to loot own corpse= Difficulty+

From a Roleplaying perspective.. meta-gaming is one of the greatest sins, but it's unavoidable. Some people do it, and others don't.. it all depends on the person. Say you accidentally stumbled upon your corpse, didn't realize it was yours, and looted it. Should you be punished? I don't think you should be punished either way.. It's really a moral/meta-gaming issue that can't be solved.

Edit: On an unrelated note.. I loved Big Hat Logan in DaS. Such a good game...

  5. (this is a repost from another crossbow thread - concerning SIGHTS)

I use the crossbow all the time, and I still have no idea how to aim with it. I'm trying to be consistent with how I aim it, but it's rather hit or miss (really). The bolt always hits them in a seemingly random part of the body.

  6. I think this should be tested at least. Classes can add up more depth to the game and create diversity.

    I wouldnt recommend a class system' date=' but maybe a "loadout" [. . .']

But a system with skills' date=' wich you can drop and take any skill at any time maybe could be interesting, with a skill points cap.

    [/quote']

I'd like to tradeoff certain skills to gain in others' date=' just like you would in real life.

It doesn't have to be a rigid class system like the OP suggests, but anything is worth experimenting with over sticking with the status quo.

    [/quote']

I wasn't really even suggesting a rigid class system. Just wanted to start a conversation, and I like a lot of the ideas that were posted here.

To the purists who read the title and basically flame.. you're not really adding anything to the conversation. A lot of these posts are pretty well thought out and could be expanded on.

  7. The class system would have one major rule: Never to interfere with combat situations. Your medic class can still roam the streets, shooting down noobs with his AK, and stealing their loot. But he'll still be able to use blood packs with greater efficiency, and bandages more so.

  8. To MMOish...

I agree in a way, BUT a lot of people have different skills. If this were truly a zombie survival scenario.. then people of all different walks of life would be present. The "go prone and avoid zombie while scavenging for loot" type skillset wouldn't be the ONLY type of person that exists.

Maybe there could be some way to earn your class. Kind of like a merit badge.

  9. I was thinking that maybe Day Z could have some sort of class system. For example: explorer, medic, forager, bandit, scout, hunter, commando, and civilian all come to mind. Each class could have a different loadout (upon spawn), and perhaps excel in basic NON-COMBAT RELATED skills. I think it would add more depth to a player's respawn. Some classes might start out with a compass, hunting knife, blood pack, or whatever you thought necesasry. The class might even be displayed to other players on non-hardcore servers (I normally play on hardcore so I don't really know how this might work.) Some classes could be more useful for teamplay, others for looting/zombie slaying, and others for PvP.

Day Z seems like it could expand in almost any way, and I think this would might be a useful addition to the game.

  10. When our group saw you we told you directly not to interfere with our video recording. We were attempting to make a film.

This is a lie' date=' and irrelevant.

As part of the video I was shot in the leg. I said to give me a blood transfusion as part of the video, my group denied me as part of the video. You took it upon yourself to climb on the roof stare me down and kill me after I said 3 times. Don't shoot me, I'm recording a movie. I don't know why you saw the need to shoot someone with nothing.

I climbed up the building because I noticed a horde of zombies shambling my way. I did see you run past, but not as a group and not up the ladder. I had no idea you were even up there until I saw you on the ground asking for help. Before helping, I noticed you had the bandit skin, so I killed you knowing that you'd probably betray me after I helped you (plus I'd never killed anyone before :3).

The ban is lifted. But next time learn to listen.

Rightly so, but next time I'll try to avoid playing with children.

  11. I found the admin, Codeusa, asking for a blood transfusion on US 9. After I killed him he banned me (server notifications says I was being kicked, and unable to rejoin). Nothing I did was against the rules, and right after his death notification came up half the server joined in saying "enjoy the ban." My ban isn't justified, as I broke no rules, and I'd like it to be lifted.

    Thanks,
