should there be regular resets on characters

Here's a gameplay idea: have an ascendance type thing where you take a 4 week character with some special items like a car or whatever on the final journey to freedom or whatever to get some sort of reward or score on your profile. It will reset your character without screwing you over, reset cars to give other players a chance, and keep the game fresh for veterans. -
True. But it might do the exact opposite of what your saying, and make people just shoot on sight even more often, since with more zombies, people REALLY wouldn't want to go into towns unless they have to. So the solution? Kill more players out in the woods where they're safe from a hoard of zombies that they don't have enough ammo to take on. 1. Kill player 2. loot his corpse to find he's just as destitute as you are 3. starve to death or 1. Kill player 2. Loot his corpse to find he has a rich cornucopia of beans 3. Get killed by the buddies he rolled with to gain this bounty

Going prone shouldn't be a magical cloaking device. I go into towns all the time while taking zero risk, and I actually prefer to use the crossbow because it's good enough at killing the 1 zombie I aggro per 500 encountered. Make survivors more noticeable overall and scale the number of new zombie spawns with town size and not noise made. I understand if the Lee Enfield aggroes all existing zombies, but don't make it continually spawn hordes and hordes around a lone barn. It's also ridiculous that places like Vybor have less zombie spawns than the adjacent gas station. If you want to go into a big town, you're going to have to suit up with trainer barns and deer stands and prepare for a big fight. If you're too lazy or unskilled to do that, hunt survivors for their loot, not because you're bored and want to fight an actual threat.

Did crossbows get nerfed in 1.6 patch?

As long as it's easy to find and doesn't aggro zombies, it's a worthwhile weapon -
congratulations?

My Rant: Why I am Done with the Game.
kaffaljidhma replied to BusterFrisco's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah, I'm currently creating my own objectives by running zombies into people because I've already figured out that you can totally avoid the zombie threat by just crawling everywhere. No zombies killed, no bandits killed, no people encountered, just look before you go out in the open. It doesn't matter if you die because it's so easy to avoid zombies and gain loot, and even when I'm just running around, the building glitch is enough for me to scavenge ALICE packs and weapons and supplies I don't need. The fact that zombies can't follow you under concrete walls, up complicated towers, down steep mountains, or through more than two buildings makes their actual threat level nonexistent unless you're foolish enough to actually shoot them. -
A mechanic to prevent DayZ turning into a massive DM
kaffaljidhma replied to reuter's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'd like zombies to spawn everywhere. It would fix how boring it is to travel between towns and would prevent people from just shooting on sight all the time -
The benefit there is while sniper rifles spawn everywhere, automatic rifles only spawn at military locations, guaranteeing you'll probably be killed by a bandit before I ever get to see you. Believe it or not, firing a rifle at sniper range does not take down a person in one hit, and unfortunately for the rifleman, the loudness of the rifle and its rate of fire makes firing on a mob of zombies midrange especially perilous.

Dropping low ammo crossbow for noisemaker.
kaffaljidhma replied to Scorcho's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The benefit of the crossbow is that it never puts fellow players on alert, and there's no consequence for shooting zombies. Once you get good at the crossbow, you only need about 3 bolts to loot a town, and you'll probably recover 2 of those. You don't need medical equipment, steaks, or extra secondary ammo because zombies will never spawn in the quantities that will ever become a threat, so of course you'll always have enough space in your pack for everything you don't need. You're more likely to spot bandits before they spot you, since you'll be deep in the middle of town with a bunch of non-aggroed zombies, and they'll have to shoot some just to clear the way to a spot where they can actually have a chance of seeing you. You don't know how much you rely on sound to be aware of people until they stop making it. The crossbow shows just how flawed the zombie threat is right now and how much more intricate the zombie aggression system needs to be for it not to be gamed to high heaven. -
There's a new PVP game in town, and it's called Zombie Training. What you do is get a really loud gun and fire it in a crowded town, then start the running of the bulls to the next town and watch for sightings of juicy survivors, bandits, whatever. Once you spot them, and they of course start shooting at you, zigzag towards them with your zombie army and watch as the AI priority falls straight on the unlucky predator. After the zombies have finished eating, throw a flare to distract, loot the body or don't, who cares, you don't need anything but the occasional food and bandage, then pick up the horde and move on to the next town. Only people sure of their aim will try to snipe you, and if they miss, all you need to do is go within hearing range of their obviously loud weapon to let the zombies do their work. If they duck inside a building, it's a guaranteed death sentence, as you can run in circles around the place firing a Lee Enfield into the air and the zombies will still prefer to shamble into the building to get at the desperate meat grinder within. Force a disconnect and you'll guarantee that person won't be back anytime soon. Zombies can run through walls and aren't fooled by cover, they'll wait patiently while you eat and drink in a barn before resuming your run, and they're never out of ammunition. All you need to master this army is a good middle finger - stay on the roads, dodge and weave just a little to throw off snipers, and watch as you wreak carnage on groups of six coordinated players without ever firing a shot or losing humanity. According to the game, I'm a saint, even though I cause 5 or so deaths every time I run through Cherno.

Winchester is better than military grade weapons?
kaffaljidhma replied to Yarden's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think the crossbow and the makarov are the only weapons worth the ammo now. Assuming you disturb one zombie with every venture into an area, those are the only weapons where you will lose less ammo than you find assuming it spawns, except for deer stands where you can take down zombies with anything, or even basejump them from the mountain near the stands if you don't feel like spending ammo. The other silenced weapons are extremely weak and take several shots to down a zed, which compounds with their rarity to make them functionless as weapons for most of the time you'll carry them. If you don't disturb zombies when you go foraging, then you don't need ammo anyway and might as well fill your inventory with empty soda cans. As for PVP, every weapon is the same because it all depends on who gets the drop on who. -
Does the crossbow one shot kill now? Cause it does on medium difficulty servers.
