What can i do to improve my hardware?
WeaponTheyFear7 replied to humptey's topic in Technology/Programming
Just out of curiosity, what power supply do you have? -
I feel as if each server should have its own database. This would reduce server response problems, character data problems, and would allow for private server hosting. I feel as if standardization is not the best route for this mod to take in general. If servers were allowed their own database, there could also be more customization. I support PvP but why not broaden the userbase by allowing Non-PvP servers? Give the people what they want and if you don't like PvP, join that server. If you like PvP, don't join it. As simple as that. Players want options. PvP is just one thing that would change, maybe someone wants a server where your spawning gear is different? Or maybe a server with dramatically increased bullet damage? Or maybe a 20 second logout clock to prevent disconnects from death? Giving each server a database of its own would allow for this mod to become so much better. Plus, as a HUGE benefit, you can kiss server hopping exploits goodbye. Your inventory and all your equipment will stay on ONE server. On top of all that, if you then have "home servers" where your gear is, the server would have informal reputations based on your actions. This will appease EVEN MORE players that fill these forums with reputation or "I know him" style requests. If someone is on a server and kills people they will be known for being a bandit. This allows other bandits to potentially see an ally, survivors to see an enemy, and allow the bandit himself to become infamous. EVERYBODY WINS. So my real question is: why doesn't each server have its own database yet? Take the constant pressure off the Hive, the DayZ team, and especially Rocket, and give the community more control.

My Good Suggestions List and discussion.

Don't forget that Tents and Vehicles do not have working storage. This is a huge reason I can't seriously get into this game. -
Sick bastards lol Poor guy, I'm sure he will turn Bandit or KoS soon. The only way to stay alive these days.

An API would be great. +1

With the addition of more skins, I was hoping that some skins could be unlocked. While it may not be realistic, it would be a tiny thing which would create an incentive for players, and pull many out of their comfort zone. Almost as a clothing variation of Xbox 360 style achievements, which are very successful. For instance, if someone killed 1000 zombies in one life, I think it would be cool to give players a hockey mask to wear. If said player died and respawned, I think he/she should still have the choice to wear the hockey mask on their fresh character to remind them of their previous accomplishment(s). This way the bandit skin(s) could be put back to use as well. This would give each character a different look and allow players to even feel more attached to their character. The standard skin was kinda cool at first but now it merely reminds me of some Cabela's style hunter character. A big reason I became a bandit on one of my accounts was because I wanted to look different because the normal skin was boring to me. During restarts or relogs I often would lose my bandit skin and feel inclined to murder more people, which I often had little or no desire to do. I find myself changing my character to look different but it just isn't enough. Even with William Wallace facepaint and Aviators, I want to have my character look a certain way. There simply is not enough options and the current "skin loot" system makes each character lose it on death. I would rather have skins be achievement based. Let me know what you all think. There is nothing I would enjoy more on my bandit account than having aviators, a blue mohawk, and red camo (all of which serve no purpose). That way people would see me, recognize me, and know me. I want to get up close with my M1014, have them see me looking a certain way, and be haunted by me after I blast them to oblivion with my buckshot. From Big Hat Logan: There would be a choice when spawning on what skin to wear.

We gonna need haircuts now or else we have decreased visibility? We going to have to take a shit with toilet paper or else our player walks funny because he wiped his ass with a pinecone? Just...no

Nice work guys, but you do realise that there are more colors than black and red right? Hopefully? lol

IF this was an actual game...
WeaponTheyFear7 replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Game purchase only 90% studio developed, with 10% additional help/code input from the community. (we want to help) Community Servers, in addition to Studio Servers would be nice. (I want to host a few with personal tweaks) Kickstarter rocks. *Side Note: Killing Floor is a great example of a mod that went fully retail. It has Tripwire working on it as well as tons of community content. We like it that way. -
It should be as simple as adding new skin textures to the game. Although there would have to be a tweak to the pre-game UI, I feel as if it is needed anyways because of the problems people wishing to play as the female skin have encountered. It would help them too.

A choice when you spawn does sounds much better. Thanks for the input.

I assume that means you MUST demand and have those demands delivered because you bought the game specifically for DayZ' date=' right? [/quote'] Let's try to keep this on topic guys. These forums are filled with enough flamers and pointless arguments.

With rumors of Molotov Cocktails coming, I think a flamethrower is quite possible and quite fucking baller if I do say so myself old chap.

I have two characters anyways because I picked up an extra CD Key for $13. I just want others to experience this game more from different aspects. I have a survivor account, and a separate bandit account already.
-
I just said tweak, specifically to fix tents and vehicle storage and a bunch of other problems. I didn't mean a full blown reverse engineering project. I still think server side databases would solve a ton of the problems the game is facing and encourage more people to play this.

My friends and I are actively looking into a way to change Rocket's code if needed to tweak the game to our liking, as well as creating full backups of every single update. I love the idea behind this mod but the direction worries me at times. I am trying to secure my piece of a game that I love. A zombie survival-shooter with a few RPG aspects is what I have wanted to play for years now. I refuse to let this go to waste. If Private Servers were allowed, I would put two servers up. One with the current system in place and try to increase the amount of zombies that is on it to make it even more difficult. I would put the Zombie, back in zombie apocalypse. Another with PvP off, and I would like to add 2x as many zombies, and have them each deal 2x damage. I want to play a zombie survival sim, not an open world deathmatch shooter with some zombies in it that are of little to no threat. That way I would fear a horde; currently I do not.

Minecraft is one far-out example although the base game is entirely different, some of the ideas are similar. And as far as me insulting him, it was merely a response for his instant rep -1 merely for stating my opinion and backing it. I merely replied to his "carebear" comment. Keep in mind that PKing is one aspect of a larger idea here. If the only hole you find in my idea is how much you love the unrealistic PvP, then I must be doing pretty good. Plus, the option could be entirely eliminated from the server options if Rocket chose to do so. I am offering an idea here to be added to. It is much easier to shoot down someone's ideas or poke holes in it than constructively add content and ideas. I am far more concerned about customization and faster, better working connections.

It would not destroy the idea of this game at all. And if bandits were kicked for murder, then don't play on servers that have shitty staff that would do such a thing. And I believe you are a "carebear" for whining about PKing. Being a Bandit is basically the only way to stay alive in game now and I at least want a choice in the matter. Besides, that is only one point of this whole concept. Your narrow-mindedness says much about your intelligence.

Alpha state or not, this should high on the priority list. My friends and I only play so many hours each day and most servers crash or restart after a certain amount of time goes by. Each time that happens I lose anything not in my inventory, and my trust in this game goes down. If I can barely trust tents and cars, let alone backpack errors and erasing weapons, then how can I put faith into any kind of storage in this mod? It seems directly related to database issues, plus a few in-game bugs. I have played several games/mods from their Alpha state, but problems of this magnitude are of higher priority than what this seems to be.

tents are buggy as hell and I have lost far too much gear to use them anymore. I recommend storing items you wouldn't mind having erased in tents and nothing more.
