Said in a Kiwi accent....I'm going to draw-out this project for as long as possible because I enjoy being the boss.
-
No, no I never forgot that. That's called covering their arse, and it's expected in many industries. This industry is full of anxious humans, usually young humans that have no patience or life experience to know better. I'm an adult and I was still an eager beaver to play the SA game, and arse covering warnings wasn't going to stop me, or the other 2million eager beavers from buying it. I doubt even 1% of those that purchased it knew it was a sack of shit to incredible proportions. Overwhelmingly the majority expected better at release, than where it's at now some 10 months on, so I won't accept your argument. The cretin has had everyone over in my opinion, even his new (at the time) colleagues at BIS.
-
Vehicles should have been in from the start in my opinion, and if that meant them not releasing the buggy sack of shit that the 'game' is, last Christmas, then so be it. At least it would've saved all those hundreds of thousands of players £20 each and all the wasted time spent realising that it's a buggy sack of shit.
-
Actually, it could.......... the highlighted above should be..................."you're best off" but apart from that, I fully agree. Now onto the development of more important stuff............ when will the knife sharpener and boot leather wax tins be introduced?

Buy arma 2 or wait for dayz standalone?
rapid12 replied to Inane's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's a must buy, then you can enjoy the better versions of DayZ like Epoch, and besides, going by the calamity so far with the stand alone, I wouldn't expect that released for another year or so. Plus it looks dog shit from the videos I've seen do far. -
Yep. our grandchildren are going to love it.
-
It sounds really really good, but does it not lag like a bitch with all the AI?

Standalone voting has the delay effected
rapid12 replied to law1977's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I voted not to buy it, but I'm sure I will buy it if it's good and everyone else moves over to it. However, I don't think it will be a success as it's sounding like it's going to be a tedious boring affair. The Rocketman character has completely messed up things IMO, he's obviously tried to prolong his stay as 'head of project' by insisting on more features that are hugely time consuming. This, I predict, will massively backfire for him as the hype left on the last space shuttle some years ago. As I understood it, the SA was meant to be a project to get the hugely popular mod into a single file game so gamers wanting to play DayZ didn't have to buy two games, download the mod files and then faff about getting it to work only to be faced with huge waits trying to get in the fecking game. That and some obvious bug fixes and a few new subtle features like skins. But as we all know the SA isn't here yet, and there isn't a sniff of when it's going to be out. I believe Rocket has suggested a wear and tear system for the characters' shoe soles, meaning that anyone surviving for a long time will have to find a cow to kill and craft new soles from its hide, but you need to craft the thread for stitching first and that won't be worked on until the Spring, then the team will start work on the needle. But the biggest surprise of all is that BI have bought into it. -
What stops people taking SA features over to the mod?
rapid12 replied to scaramoosh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If the fecking thing ever comes out, I think it will flop due to the huge amount of time passed since the hype that elevated the mod to the heights it once enjoyed. Time will tell though and I'll gladly hold my hand up if I'm wrong, but I seriously doubt that I will be. -
Do you know what'd be good with your idea? If a murder took place at a trader city, the traders refuse to trade until the murderer was killed himself (or logged off).
-
Real people wouldn't slay other people while they traded with a trader. Real traders would pack up and fuck off if someone was shooting in the market they had their stalls at. God mode for me simply acts as an invisible police presence which works as in intended. As for Vanilla DayZ, it's complete shit once you've worked out how to avoid zombies hitting you; the fear factor is gone. It's brilliant for new players and it's good for groups fighting other groups but Wasteland provides that.anyway but without the slight annoyance of the zombies.
-
Why all the hate for God zone trader areas? They make perfect sense, let me explain why.... Epoch is set after the infection; a time when civilisation is returning. The fact that market traders and currency are present tells you it's not just a land of anarchy, so one would assume some sort of law and order is in place. The traders can't be stolen from, killed or kidnapped, and one would hope not in a supposedly bustling market. Yet, the customers (players) can be slayed right there in front of the many traders without any of them batting an eyelid or any form of justice dished out to the murderers. In the real world that wouldn't happen and you know it. In the real world (imagining a zombie apocalypse has indeed just taken place) even the most nastiest bastards wouldn't do their killing in a busy market place as they would fear whatever justice the survivors have democratically agreed upon for such crimes. Sure, you'd get highwaymen lurking in the bushes alongside the roads into the market areas waiting to pounce on anyone heading to or from the market, but they wouldn't do it in the market place. So, now to move on to the fact we're all just controlling pixels....... Killing in the trader zone without the traders moving is unrealistic. But what can you do about it? They're AI after all, right? You need to somehow outlaw killing in the zones, but how can servers police it around the clock? They can't. So, the easiest and most efficient way so far has been the God zone script. You so called 'hardcore' players laugh at its unrealistic physics, yet you're quite happy to go with the very unrealistic model I described above where traders will laugh off a murder in front of them and carry on trading with other market goers who also didn't even flinch that someone just had their brains blown out in front of them. So, with the God zone script in place players can be more in tune to real life by being able to do their shopping without the fear of someone putting a bullet in their head while they do it. Those that don't like the God zone, you need to understand that this is just a video game and that the God zone script is the easiest way to mimic the behaviour of survivors (or should that now be residents now) in a real market place. It works really well, and, IMO, should come as standard across all Epoch servers. Regarding the OP, the mod is great if you like making pretend money, as there's a strange satisfaction when you sell something, but you can literally spend hours upon hours doing that, which isn't my idea of fun but I believe it's very popular in Israel. You can play as a highwayman and hold-up Isaac as he makes his way to market, stealing his goods before killing him (that's how I play Epoch). You can craft things if that floats your boat, it ain't for me but there's plenty of sad bastards that love doing that shit. They're fun to kill because it pisses them off no end and they bitch like mad in sidechat. You can build glorious palaces if you put enough time into it, or just build a simple garage to keep your good shit in. Y

How long does dayz have left to live..
rapid12 replied to kevsta545's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Personally I don't think the SA will succeed due to the amount of time it is taking to be released. The bubble has well and truly burst and 'Rocket' (should be hot air balloon) has only himself to blame IMO. Also, the sub mods like Epoch offer so much more than what the SA is so far offering. The term 'strike while the iron is hot' springs to mind. -
I personally don't think the SA will be anywhere near as good as some of the mods are today, in fact I think it will flop massively due to the massive delays. BI probably better off appointing someone dedicated to their work, then it might have a chance, but an ever so small chance.

Thanks, we shall try that and let you know. One additional bit of info that may have an effect.... I changed my in game name, on the old PC I called myself Rapid12, & on the new one I changed it, would that cause these issues?

There doesn't appear to be the option to reinstall it. Does BE come with Steam or does it come with Arma2?
