Go in church and close the door, in store with back doors closed, barns, and so on - and they walk right thru. I little bit ago, they hit me thru a closed door. On the other had I can go in store with many zombies chasing, hide behind the display at the end of the main room and they just stop or walk by. You just never know. Don't particularly like that, but it keeps me on my toes - that I do like - when I feel safe I get lasy do something wrong. And I always seem to attract zombies that are wearing glasses and have hearing aids. I will be a mile from a time and can just bearly see one zombie - and he runs quickly toward me. I know better than to run as it always chases me forever whan that happens. So I just stand there with axe ready and I usually stops right in front of me. I just hold the mouse button down and get it easily - not always but usually. Strangest things happen in each session. At this stage I do enjoy the smaller towns and only zombies - I am so afraid of people. If I hear a gun or see someone, I just run. Last person I saw just appear from no where in a house I was in - and quickly took me out. I have changed server since then.

Still can not locate a good weapon - or even an axe at the moment - I usually locate axes everywhere. But as far as supplies, I decide to quit going in to the two major cities. On a small server I figured most if not all would be in them. So I hit the road. Finally figured out how to use the legend on the map I use and posted in another thread and realized other towns have store also. Thought I got lost but found a city north with a store and so many supplies - an Alice Pack. So many things. This store did not have a weapon though. Map says town has church but I have not located it yet. Smaller server - was from large cities is nice - I will mess it up somehow. Love the way the sun shine properly to help you keep your direction without a compass. I still feel so lost without it but hiding under a bush in woods, using CTRL-ESC to look at map, then going back in - over and over - has really added to the game. I get lost less with it. Lastly, I know players in the game are a good thing but with everyone so easy to shoot and being so new, I am really enjoying running zombies in a circle and losing them. Lastly, I know this is in another thread - but I don't want to argue - the thing about "Item Spawning". I am in a small town now with one store, only one house I have been able entire, what is the problem with picking up more than I need, moving it, to increase the spawning time. I don't like players shooting on site, snipers, etc - but I really don't get the reason to argue on this issue. You need the supplies - don't you? If you want me to post my map page here let me know, I downloaded the 3 maps so I will have to look for the site again. There is one main map and two overviews of two main cities. Map has wonderful legend to you know what is in each place before you go - and so far it has been completely up to date. Thank you for all the advice and assistance!!!! It is been so helpful!!!

Made a comment about this in another post but don't understand. Guy says I'm friendly - I reply I'm friendly - lay down - put down gun I just found to prove it. Turned my back to pick up more supplies and he attacked me from behind. Really???? Come on!!!! Give me a server with only zombies. I see why people attack first. But I just don't want to do that - I want to play the game without it. If you attacking someone who could or say attacked. That's the game I guess - But unarmed - in the back??? Losers!!!!! By the way, I even typed on all channels Friendly!!!! I guess I will run next time. On the bright side - I did locate Electro with the external map - in game - using ctrl-esc to exit game (after hiding) - and using the city it said I was near to the right of screen at start of session. Located market. Then was attacked from behind. No retaliation - I will just run next time and come back later. Living in the mountains does seem nicer and nicer. Just get supplies QUICKLY and leave city. Oh, and I still was on the smaller server. Maybe 4 people at most and myself - actually 3 people - 1 loser - and myself. Yes I am bummed!!! Start again tho!!!

I finally have something good happening at the moment but sun in going down on server. I am still a but confused about how servers respawn or continue to play. I located a server that is still early in day and only a couple people but it is by a different provider. If I go to that server and respawn will I lose my play in current server? Even if I respawn, will items I am hiding be there assuming no one has taken them? If I respawn on new server - I can not go back to old server in same place correct? Lastly, I actually found myself on server when zombies had got me. Took my stuff but wanted to pick up body and hide it? I have seen people in videos move bodies and the hide them but I can not locate commands to do this - and I do have a good list of commands. Can anyone assist me please? I would be willing to help someone with blood if I could trust them - so picking up body to move to safe place would be handy to write down. Lastly, Lastly, I saw a guy crawl up to a group of zombies surrounding a body - I assume taking things - then crawl out - Zombies did not move. How is this possible? When I left game the zombies still had not left body - They never move. But how did he do that? On current server I am seeing a lot of people being booted for hacks and global hacks I think. Global Errors maybe? Is this how he did that? Thanks for advice and assistance!!!!

Now this is funny and good. I am just trusting by nature. Had no idea I would get hit in the back. But I am learning and won't do it again. Like in the quote I am horrible with guns at the moment. I am playing the arma 2 gun simulations and losingon badly also. But practicing and will get better. Off topic - how do you remove a body or hide it so it can not be looted. I found myself by accident and wanted to life myself out and get stuff but have only seen in on videos and san not find command on google - thanks!!! I have another question but I think I will post it seperate with the above question again. Thanks - I do like the smaller towns and mountain life. At the moment it is not boring. And I am watching much closer for players now. I located a place that spawns everything I need - Even another larger pack. Still need a knife and I guess a hatchet - Can get axe to chop wood - but do have matches and setting up a stuff so I have a lot of everything. If others use it - great - I will get more. Just trying to hide better now. Thanks for advice!!!!!

I read a post on getting items to reappear in a specific place so I tried a test of my own. Went to warehouse in Kamyshovo. Picked up cans and some tank kit. Took them outside to pier and waiting about 2 to 5 minutes then went back in. A tire and more empty cans appeared. Did not realize till posts this was possible. Now to locate a please that spawns matches and a hatchet or an axe. Personally, for me, I like the small towns. Frustrating that only a couple building are open but I like that much more than the major cities at this point. Thanks for help and advice!!!!! Have a great week!!!!

I say hacker first thing - only been playing 2 days now. With advice from people here I downloaded DayzCommander and located a server with only a couple people on it - and seems to watch and expell the hackers. Hackers or not - don't trust most people - If they say friendly and have a gun or axe run if you can not defend your self. Don't turn your back on them as I have done. It is a big world so a server with 4 or 5 people is small and at least till you get to large town and go to market or church or hospital - you can avoid people completely and learn and enjoy the game. What you said!!! I wish the game would not just say Selmack died or what ever. It should say "Loser0001 killed Selmack!" Then you would know who to watch out for next time. I do realize name can change but I am guessing if I go back in it will not change that quickly. Also, other players could watchout for that person. How about - "Loser0001 shot Selmack in back and killed him" Then people would have a much better idea of the person. This would be better as I know there are times to defend yourself - I am not that cautious. Just venting!!!!

For the moment I have made it to a town. Before something happens I would like to know where I am. Can't find a sign anywhere. Are there any landmarks or anything that would help me learn where I am without a map please? There is a plant (chemical or power plant) by the city. A church and I did locate the store but I assume these are in each town. Can anyone give me any ideas. I plan to look at an online map now and hope towns are different. Thanks!!!

Now that I have a map from google I can look at to locate water I don't see any down side to woods except matches. What is the trick with matches? Is there one specific place you always go back to for them. It is so strange - I locate scap metal, steel bolts, empty cans and bottle everywhere, but the things I need near woods I can never locate - food, matches, knife. I will keep looking at map but anyone have any thoughts about matches, and basic outdoor supplies like knives or hatchet? Thanks!!!!

Being almost 2 days new I can so relate to your questions. For some commands go here: http://www.allgame.c...76&tab=controls - print these pages and it will help in game with most commands. I still don't know how to hide a body - but I have not seen one so it does not matter. When I start game I press ( . ) period to get main channel first. But no one talks in the smaller server anyway. I also press X to crouch immediately or Z to lay down till I get my bearings. One person told me to go into Arma 2 and run the tutorial. I was not hard and it was quick. I learned so much about commands, driving, had a gun range. Very nice!!! Others know more than me but I have been asking these questions for two days. I posted the maps I use in another thread I posted. I just today located my first ingame map. Great advice someone game was locate DayzCommander a server with only a couple people. There are so many snipers waiting in the larger activity servers. Total Bummer!!! I have found a axe or hatchet to be great with zombies - also running in circles around buildings and thru evergreen trees is a great way to lose them. If there are to many just dive into a huge bush and quickly lay down and don't move. For me, they usually leave. I am just learning about being self sufficient - and was just told to food restore blood - get an axe or hatchet, knife, matches - so I can kill animals, build a fire and stay alive. Also look at the maps and see where water is - lake and have something to put it in so you don't have to stay in town. If you locate a small activity server, take your time with zombies and get an axe or hatchet which seem to be everywhere you will be able to survive. Take it from another noob, early game is a struggle, can be so boring till you get a map, and you do a lot of running till you get used to what the zombies do. One last tip. I heard on video - and seems true - zombies don't see well - the go by hearing. So crouch and run slowly even when you are close to them, they may not know you are there. If you are chased and have no axe, stand up and run if you need to (in circles) around building in city or thru trees in woods. Use the numeric key pad 1 and 3 to look behind you to see if it is still there. I am still having a lot of questions and a tough time, but believe me players are the worst part of the game. You will get used to the zombies and regular game play. This forum has been a perfect place to ask questions also. Beside this forum, Youtube and google are great for questions. Some guy have the top 10 things noobs like us need to know. Then there are others like someone named Frankie (I think) and others that appear quite good at game. Watching their videos gave me an idea or what to expect. But nothing helped more than just losing over and over and asking questions here to begin to help the newness and frustration. Expect hackers to appear from no where and people attacking you unarmed for no reason. It appears to be the norm on larger servers. Look at map in link l listed so you can get an idea of where you will locate in specific buildings. On small server church had so much. Changed pack and found all sorts of things. Hospital was good for med supplies after I located it on map. Did anyone answer about why it mattered were you end you game session - in town or not? I have ended both in town and out. But I always hide flat under a bush, a tree, or behind something first. I figure in a low activity server I can hide in town if I lay down behind something and am careful. I am sure others have better ideas but "for me" with the sniping - and trying to get my bearings when I return - I want to be hidden very well before leaving game. Also, I don't want to appear in a group of zombies just waiting to attack so I always try to hide under something - laying down. So far it has worked. I know, I am going on forever - but what the post above said about guns is so true. Guns make noice and attract everything. An axe or hatchet is silent and does not run out of bullets so you can isolate zombies one or two at a time - one hopefully. I quit picking up bullets when I did not have gun. I never locate a gun and bullets in same place and axe seem to be easier to hit with. Strange thing tho with axe. I always have to press R for reload after getting axe from tool belt before I can use it. If you start with the quick arma2 tutorial and print the commands you will have a much easier game - Guaranteed!!! Good Luck - Have a great week!!!

Not sure if these maps are uptodate but I like the over head view of city maps. I downloaded all. I hope I can hide in game and use CTRL-ESC to exit game and look at maps to get an idea of where I am. I never have water early and usually sun out because I have no idea where it is. Did not realize it was random in specific spots. No wonder I am getting attacked so soon. They are just sitting waiting for me. What a bummer!!! I like a hatchet for zombies and I have yet to locate a rifle and ammo together so I hate it what I am sniped. Someone actually continued to attack from a helecopter after I went into a building unarmed. Shot threw the building then got out and finished it. Why????? Unarmed - doing no harm. Make no sense!!!!

Got sick of spawn snipers in the server s I had been using. Went to FR 156 looking for something to drink or eat. Can't locate anything. Find axe and decide to either hit zombies or start over again. Either way, I was going to pass out anyway. Only located two food - but to the point - out of no where a group of players appeared and were shooting anything and everything. What a bummer!!! I ran and well you can figure the rest. Complete bummer!!!! The one good thing though from all this is the DayzCommander. Filtered out everything but the servers I could use. At least switching servers is easy!!!

Actually, that is what I have been trying to do now. I need to look closer at the info in DayzCommander. I actually made it to a larger town for the first time. I am going to post in a moment a question regarding where I am now.

If I understand your post, I believe I have to agree. All I have been doing is running basically. Completely lost usually as the servers it says I am compatable with seem to always have spawn snipers and if I stand for even a moment it is over. So I run and try to lose them and even then somehow they follow me. If I understand, the stand alone version of game will stop this and the hacking? I would hope. Yesterday (first day) was a complete waste. As far as a getting sniped near a camp of zombies. I appeared near one. As I was running to avoid them with absolutely nothing - game over - sniper. How do they always know where I am? I turned around and saw one all decked out and run forever - stopped - game over. Just don't get it. Even changing servers. The servers are all by the same provider so not sure if that matters but change or not games are short, boring, and so frustrating!!!

Saw a video of a guy who said he liked his map which he located online. Another I believe said this also - and during video I believe he marked his position so he could come back and get supplies in a car he hid. I have googled a lot and see many maps but my question is - how do you make these maps accessable in the game? Is that possible? Can you set it to keep track of your position in the current game, where you have been, or where you have hid supplies or want to return? Thanks for replies!!!!

I located a page from Allgame that I printed that give me some of the controls needed to start. But in the game I realized I still don't know how to do simple things. Example: I had a pistol in starting pack in one server to start. I picked up another weapon but when I ran out of bullets in pistol I had to drop it because I could not figure out how to change to the new one. How do you switch without dropping? When you switch to a new server, do you always start out new or do you save along the way and restore a game? If you do not die do you still have equipment from the other server? How does this work please? Additional commands: I know from videos there are additional commands. Are they buttons you press or a menu option when you point at something? Thank you for any assistance!!! I am sure I will have other questions but I will start with these. Just downloaded DayzCommander so not sure about it yet. But it appears to filter very well. Is there a way to know what server you were on last without writing it down? Thanks Again!!!

Thank you for all responses. I did locate a server and spend entire time in woods. Totally lost but went to top of a mountain a located a fort of some kind I think. I had no backpack so could only pick up a couple things. And I assume it was "LAG" big time as everything I did either did not happen or happened later multiple times. Drinking - bandaging - never happened and actually appear not to happen. Then later it would stop and do it - sometimes multiple times even when I only had one. As far as doors - should there be something that tells you in advance where they will open or not? Hate to admit this but I died because I ran into the gun of a tank by the ocean. I assume I got knocked cold as I could do nothing. That kind of sums up my first actual day of this. One mistake after another. Strangely tho, I saw no one. It said players died over and over but only heard one and never saw any. Do tutorial in Arma. That sounds like an exceptional idea. I have watched many Youtube videos and have a sheet of basic commands but still feel completely lost. I can never get bleeding to stop no matter how many bandages and I am not sure what to do when screen goes black and white or health issues happen. A gun tutorial would be great also. I move to fast with mouse and usually miss. I also would like to do simple things like just change my name. More questions as they occur. Thank you - to each responder - for all the assistance!!!!

Just purchased programs today from Steam. Followed Youtube instructions for install and everything appears perfect till I try to join a server. Purchased Combined operations - Used you site to manually download files. Placed them in correct directory. When I try join any server it either says I have an incorrect version or something about specific files. Either way I have wasted hours and not entered one server with a new product. Can anyone assist me please? If you need more information please ask and I will do my best to provide it. Thank you so much!!!! Update: version is 1.7.2.6
