    10 min body despawn?

This causes more problems than it solves. The suggestion of your body being invisible to you or despawning when you get close is good. I would also add a 1 corpse per player clause. This would mean if you just belt straight for your body, you are more likely to be shot (or later, eaten by a horde), and then you really do lose all that gear. Both systems can be exploited, but the 10 minute despawn system ruins other aspects of the game. Also, if you do manage to return to your corpse, the current item damage system still punishes you for dying. You guys seem to have more patient/gamey friends than I do. We pretty much live on the north side of the map, and when some-one dies we grab only their most treasured/un-ruined gear and only what our own inventory space will allow, and then we get moving. Sometimes we meet eachother half way. Also, 10 minutes adds another artificial gamey mechanic, you know how long a body has been there. You find a dead body and you know that it has probably been there for about five minutes. You won't ever come across a massacre of two hour old corpses, retracing the action by the positions of the dead. This is one of the most compelling aspects of DayZ's emergent narrative, and I'd be really bummed to see it gone.

    Camo and Pesky Bandits.

I also wear TTsKO clothing when I can. Right now I have green cargo pants because my TTsKO pants were a bit wrecked. I also have spent most of my time wearing a ballistic helmet and a gas mask. It allows you to take more hits from zombies without bleeding, and staying hidden in the foliage is valuable to any survivor, regardless of intent. I have noticed that the helmet/gasmask combo does seem to be gaining a reputation as bandit clothing, so I actually keep them in my pack when I have room, and wear a pair of rocket aviators and a ushanka (hat with flaps) most of the time. But these days I'm mostly ranging the outskirts of the northern wastes, Aragorn style.

    [Suggestion] A Harder Game

I know the Chernarus map is based on a real place in CR, but at the same time it is its own fictional country. It's got a lot of Russian in there, maybe a little touch of Serbia. It seems like a poverty ridden place, occupied by both Russian and American military forces at times. It also seems like the place where people had to fend for themselves, not necessarily just for self defense, but to put food on the table. Hunting stores seem like a good fit, especially when we have game to hunt of the furry variety (no, not ghillies).

    Any good Standalone YouTubers?

Well, this is a surprise. Dyslecxi has uploaded an SA vid. I haven't watched all of it, but he is hunting coastal bandits in a 3PP:off server. If you don't know Dyslecxi, he is sort of the figurehead of Shack Tactical, a group that plays Arma 2 in very large, organized groups. They are on the hardcore military simulation side of the scale, and Dyslecxi is a very experienced, tactical and knowledgeable player. He also has a soothing voice and is as cool as a cucumber. edit: Holy shit, 3 minutes in and already worth it. He is a goddamn ninja. edit the second: 7 minutes in and he's already made the most powerful case for playing in first person locked servers given you a tactical explanation of the situation, and showed the importance of firing, repositioning, flanking, and observation. I only wish he would play more day Z. If you're not just looking for SA footage, one of his clan mates did a series of early DayZ mod videos called "The Days Ahead" which captures the tension and panic of a group of 20-30 hard-core "soldiers" (by Arma standards) separated in a zombie outbreak. They only use direct chat, too.

    [Suggestion] A Harder Game

A lot of this stuff won't be implemented for a while to make this possible. Most servers I've seen are restarting every 4-8 hours, and zombies simply can't be produced in threatening numbers yet. However, the idea of hunting/ammo/camping stores is a good one. I also like the idea of them being in decent sized towns and surrounded by zombies. However, I'd like to make an extra suggestion while we're wishing and hoping. A store that carries ammo in decent amounts is locked on server restart. The glass windows and doors are barred, allowing you to shoot in and out but not enter. The doors are heavy, reinforced and locked with things like padlocks, deadbolts and more. Perhaps one of the nearby zombies carries a key, or maybe it is in a nearby house. Maybe it is lost. You can break in, using a crowbar, screwdriver, axe, or maybe even by blasting the locks with a firearm. However, all of these B&E methods have the penalty of time and/or noise. Maybe they make it impossible to close the door behind you once you're in. This means that you either have to find the keys, clear the zombies, or have a friend or squad watching your back as you get in. Another thing that would be good to implement for this purpose is static containers. Not like the 300 round ammo boxes, but actual display cases, safes and weapon racks. Some of these may also be locked, requiring more time. But they also serve the purpose of easing the load on player computers/servers by having less items spawned in the physical world, allowing you to have large amounts of ammo/gear in a single place with less strain. All of these things will make these stores a more exciting and difficult "mission" to access, rather than just being a guaranteed spot to find ammo.

Replace written status cues with verbal 'thoughts'

I absolutely do not want my character to voice anything other than maybe pain, vomiting. No speech. The voice of the character is my voice, hearing another one come from my character breaks immersion. I wouldn't be opposed to icons as long as they stay on the character screen and the HUD remains clear.

    Melee combat

With better animations, a lot could be done with what we already have. "Lowered" you have a quick downward strike, while raised you can block a frontal attack, and you have a slower swing attack that makes it easier to hit a strafing target. It's nice to know this is an area of development, though.

Remove crosshair for all non-melee weapons

Remove it. I don't mind if hip-spread and ads-spread are the same. Arma operates on the assumption that you are firing with your weapon properly shouldered, but with both eyes open and not looking down the sight. This is totally plausible, but you shouldn't get a dot showing you exactly where. You know where the middle of your screen is, roughly, that should be enough. I remove crosshair or lower the opacity in every game that allows me to. It certainly makes STALKER and Metro more immersive. And that damn dot is messing up my beautiful screenshots.

    Player activated environment sounds

Hell yes. Things like doors opening, fences rattling from opening or being brushed against, foliage being brushed, an empty can being dropped, the muzzle of your gun clacking against a window frame. All of these things would help a lot and make proximity to players and zombies more tense. It would be very cool if these sounds were not only based on where you are, but other conditions such as speed. If I run headfirst into a gate, it should make a racket, but if I'm walking past it should be quiet. This would also be good when opening doors. Say, two door speeds. One a slow, stealthy opening that won't alert zombies, and another noise for quickly kicking down or throwing open a door.

    Pen and Paper

It seems no one can confirm whether it was due to racism/douche behavior or server load. But if (or when) people write immature and offensive shit (including racism) we better have the option to tear paper up. They might also want to give admins the tools to remotely view and destroy any notes they don't want on their server. You shouldn't have to host that kind of shit.

    Are yer usin alcohol tincture...

I used it on my first life, and I noticed I had the "sick" notification on my character screen. I haven't used it since. No real point to it, unless you want to force feed some-one, if that's your kind of thing.
  12. Rocket suggests bagception will be fixed next week. Probably by the 24th. I'm not sure if this includes cases.

Brand name foods, heinz, coke etc.. why they gone?

Think of the bright side. Now that we have ZUTA CLASSIC PEOPLE'S ONLY CHOICE BEST BEVERAGE OF GLORIOUS CHERNARUS, Rocket can add in hyperglycemia and diabetes if we drink too much without getting in trouble. How's that for authenticity?
  14. I'm just guessing here, but I imagine it's more of an issue between your local server and the main hive in Europe. It could be a range of other issues. But anecdotally, it seems to increase by player count, so maybe the server is cycling priority of packets sent. Probably just my ignorance, though.

less M4s in a week... will everyone make a run on them?

This pasta would be more delicious if we had some source.

My experiences in Dayz so far.

You died because of combat logging/ghosting, not because you tried to help people out. Don't start with "I tried to be a good guy and I died so being a good guy is wrong/not worth it". Better luck next time.

Vehicle overhaul in DayZ compared to ArmA

Making cars manual or automatic would be a great addition. Hopefully vehicle physics more in line with what Arma 3 offers will end up in there eventually. As for the helicopters, removing auto-hover and a much more specific and scarce list of repair parts would do the trick. But before we can get to that we need persistence for stashes after server restart, so it is a long way off.

The Campaign for Iron Sight Zoom

I have a feeling you might actually get your wish. The PSU scope for the Mosin Nagant currently has the same native zoom you get when not aiming down sight. I think the correct zoom for that scope is 3.4x, not 1x. I think this might be an alpha issue, and you will soon be able to go to from 0x to 1x with irons and 1x to 3.4x with the PSU. As for zooming out, your wish is already granted. Hold "-" on your numpad to zoom back a bit and double tap it to lock the view there.

Crafting News - Can this be confirmed?

Definitely looks like bullshit. The components are crazy wrong, of course. On the other hand, the weapon designer for Metro 2033 and Last Light is actually an engineer/machinist and the improvised firearms in that game are amazing. A lot of them wouldn't fit the tone of DayZ, but they were all designed to be plausible. I could certainly see the break action shotguns fitting in (the Ashot and Duplet). Maybe even the revolver shotgun. The pneumatic crossbow and ball-bearing gun (Helsing and Tihar) are awesome, but not appropriate. The main issue is that it would be near impossible to actually make any of these simple fire-arms without access to a machining shop, and most of the tools involved would need electricity. I would actually like to see those sorts of tools added to some of the machine shops (there is at least one in Berezino) and garages, along with petrol generators to power them if you bring fuel. That sort of crafting requiring extended scavenging, travelling and preparation would really help with endgame economy and natural player goals.

    Any good Standalone YouTubers?

I just watched the first two CommanderPixel SA vids. Not bad. He seems friendly and edits out a lot of the crap so his vids are about 10 minutes each. There is a little roleplay but not much and not very strict. The one drawback is that he has edited in some music and ambient "spooky" noises. I wish he would cut that out.

    Any good Standalone YouTubers?

Just an opinion, but if you want a "casually nice guy" I wouldn't recommend RHINOCRUNCH. He killed on sight in a big squad in the mod, and talked a lot of smack against friendlies, and got into fights and drama with a certain friendly youtuber, and lost a lot of subscribers for those two things. And now he's rebuilding his channel and saying he wants to be friendly in SA but really he's still a bandit, just now he handcuffs more people and takes their blood, forces them to fistfight eachother and does revenge killings. He pretends he's over the drama, but he asks his captives "who is your favourite DayZ youtuber?" and if they say a certain name he executes them. I have no problem with anyone being a fan or enjoying his videos, just thought I'd mention he doesn't have the greatest attitude.

We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.

To the OP and everyone who supports player identification and suggests anyone who doesn't support it is a filthy KoS bandit cod-player. You do not represent "Heroes". I think your idea is flawed, but you are entitled to be wrong, you aren't a dev. What I find offensive is that you are patronizing, condescending and disingenuous. You are bored and you want to shoot players (on sight) and still feel good about it. You want less players to shoot you, and you want to earn that break by shooting players. This isn't about skill or morality, you are bored and frustrated by a game that A. isn't finished with all it's features implemented, and B. has uncertainty as a core mechanic and theme. And guess what? I disagree with you and I have been playing the SA for 47 hours, and I have never shot a player. I have helped three. I have met people and gone on my way. I have been shot. I have had players in my sights, and been unsure of their intent, and I have let them go. Maybe they were a "bandit", maybe they were a "hero", it doesn't matter. I KoS less than you, and I help people more than you, and it doesn't matter. My choices and morals are my own and in game they are private, I don't need your definitions and I certainly don't need your fucking arm-band.

    Playing the mod again..

I've wanted to play DayZ since the base mod, but didn't want to buy Arma 2 because A3 footage was coming out and it looked so much better. Then I heard the standalone was in the works and I decided to wait. I understand the concerns about the lack of things to do, but they've done a lot already. I can already see that graphics, performance, and ease of use are already beyond what the mod can offer and I wouldn't want to step back. They've spent all this time rebuilding the mod's gameplay and server architecture into Take On Helicopters' engine and now we're going to get features, fixes and polish. It is a really good start and I can wait. I just hope Bohemia and the DayZ team allocate more personnel, resources and tech to the project. Not just to make the game better, faster, but because Rocket deserves breathing room and support to make this happen. Especially after the toxic shit the community has thrown at him (Even funnier, is that they are obsessed with the game). Server issues aside, I'm really looking forward to seeing DayZ improve. I heard that they're getting a sound tech from the A3 team, and it will be great to have bullet sounds that carry further. I'd love to see A3's stance adjust make it in, and other nice animations. Most of all I'd love to see a larger group of people dedicated to AI, so we can have zombies that you can close a door on, and wild animals you have to hunt with patience and tension.

    Honest Question

I think it's exciting to not know what some-one's intentions are. We've met plenty of friendly people, and we've been shot at too. It encourages a stealthy mindset. I don't know how you would enforce a PVE environment without some pretty extensive admin tools and omnipresence. If the zombie hordes are implemented and are a major threat (and have consistent AI that follow the physical rules of doors and walls) I can see it being a legit way to play amongst like-minded people. At the moment, I don't think there are adequate systems to make it worthwhile. The thing is, there are people who are just not competitive. When I was young, me and a friend would play Perfect Dark. He often wanted to 1v1, whereas I preferred cooperating against a bot-army. These days I enjoy the odd shooter and coop play. If there is a way for those people to be accommodated in legit PVE communities, who are you to tell them they are wrong? I wouldn't go as far as disabling "friendly fire", though. Accidents should still happen.

So why do people refuse being held up?

I'm not surprised that there are people who refuse to surrender, but I am surprised at how many people have this latent homophobic explanation for why you refuse to submit. Wow.
