Sounds familiar. Me and another dude were looting the North-west for a good half an hour at least. I decided to climb the ladder to the ATC roof to check for gear. I went to the ladder to go back down, it catapulted me in a five meter parabolic arc straight forward and I fell to my death. My buddy looted me and then I quit. Luckily when I logged in to play the next day I was alive with all my gear next to the ATC. Janus, the two-faced god of bugs giveth, and he taketh away.

Do you dare to give a random a loaded gun?
somethingbloody replied to skoms's topic in General Discussion
I just wrote up an encounter in the KoS/Hold up thread. We gave a 357 to a guy we knew had ammo for it because he was a jolly fellow. We just told him to keep it in his pack and I grabbed some cover behind a car and covered him with my rifle just in case. He gave us the biggest stash of fresh fruit we had ever seen. -
Curious about peoples 'Rules of Engagement'
somethingbloody replied to UNDERWORLD's topic in General Discussion
It's funny how many people will shoot an armed survivor in a helmet and a gas mask on the edge of town. I am overwhelmingly friendly, but that doesn't mean I run around in the open and don't keep my weapon at the ready. I figure if I see you first there is a better chance of us both getting out alive. The gear I wear is for camouflage and protection from zombie hits. -
What's worse? Being KoS'd or held up
somethingbloody replied to Mays (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I've held up three people so far. The first, we spotted him going into the Berezino supermarket. My armed mate covered the back with his M4 and I went around the front with my 357. He came out the front and I ordered him to stop and instructed him how to surrender. I took his can-opener and epinephrine and we decided what to do with him. We came to two options we could offer him. One, he turns and runs back south, or two, he fistfights a zombie, we bandage him up, and he can come with us. He chose the latter, and I just kept my weapon ready and watched him while he looted. By the time we were less suspicious and looting Rify, he had several chances to kill one of us in isolation, but he didn't. We took him to the North-east airfield, stopping for a sit at the lake, and waved him off as he set off on his own. We knew that if we killed him for no reason we would be creating a bandit that would never trust anyone again. The second we spotted at the North-east strip. My mate was looting the hangars with me on overwatch with a scoped mosin. I spotted a guy in a bright orange rain-coat, and he was told to surrender while I moved down. We cuffed him and checked his gear. He had a lot of food and ammo, but no firearms. We kept an eye out from the ATC while he looted, then he set off for the Olsha radiotower. We decided to test our tracking skills, and found a few open doors in Olsha proper but no sign of him. We then headed to Guba, where we found him again. He was so excited to see us, we decided to give him a 357, and he gave us a pile of fresh fruit and canned food as thanks and headed off. The third was during the same session. I was watching Rify from the hill as my buddy checked the ship. I saw a guy with matching bright red motorcycle helmet and backpack entering the ship, so my mate waited on the deck and held him up. The guy asked if we were "The heroes", and told us he had met a guy who told him about two geared players who looked out for him and gave him a gun. As they talked, I noticed another survivor in a bright-orange jacket heading in. It was the first player, and they hung out on the ship and I emerged from my hiding spot to give them a wave. Images under the cut I'm not saying this is what will happen every time you get held up. But it isn't always about getting your pristine gear and force feeding you inedibles. We do it respectfully and cautiously. If you return that respect and don't threaten us we are likely to help you out with a bit of gear, some directions if you're lost, or even some protection. It is a gamble on both sides, but can make for some of the most exciting interaction DayZ can offer. -
when vehicles are implemented people will still complain about it just like they do for 3PP
somethingbloody replied to gamer222's topic in General Discussion
Is this a preemptive complaint? Y'all complaining game is tight. -
If the AI improves and the numbers improve, then we have room for both. A "curious" shambling state where they see you and stumble towards you, and an enraged state if they hear your gunshot or smell a wound. That way you get your slow shambling horde that do close in on you, and you really, really don't want to get them excited.

All guns one shot kill = more authentic
somethingbloody replied to -Gews-'s topic in General Discussion
The health and nutrition mechanics alter your chance and duration of knockout, I believe. This might effect the one-shot potential of guns. I am not in favour of one-shot kills for everything. The ballistic helmet should be able to stop a pistol bullet at range, and a 357 round at extreme range. The rifle calibers, especially the 7.62 should be able to punch through one. If you instituted a one shot kill mechanic the medical system would lose it's value. You would only need medicine after fighting a zombie, and they don't require more than a bandage. -
It could make the crowbar useful as a B&E tool. An acetylene torch or a battery powered circular saw could be higher end tools, that require fuel or battery packs to operate. A booby trap system would be cool too. I want to use a spare double-barrel with the trigger tied to the door knob. You might come home and all your stuff is gone, or you might come home to find a corpse to loot on your front door.

I'd really much prefer the ability to fortify and barricade existing structures using items like wood, scrap metal, padlocks, bricks, etc. The wooden houses in Epoch and Rust look ridiculous and out of place.

Handcuff someone and shave their beard is awesome idea. Handcuff, chose shave beard, chose style. "You've been very cooperative, and you've obviously worked hard on that beard, so I'm going to leave you handlebars to remember it by."

The second outfit is just better. High camo, lots of slots, protects from zombies. I've been killed by a guy in a t-shirt and a shovel, so I don't trust anyone who points a gun at me, comes at me without speaking or gets in my personal space. Then again I'm biased too. I'll pretty much shoot anyone wearing a payday mask.

Using Fire and Smoke and Associated Suggestions
somethingbloody replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Far Cry 2 had brushfires that were impressive but not totally out of control. In Chernarus where it rains regularly I don't see it being too much of a problem. You don't even have to destroy the trees, just give them a blackened texture. It would teach ghillie campers a lesson if you could lob a molotov into their forest spot.
