Blood on your clothes if you kill someone?
somethingbloody replied to pacoarizasystem's topic in Suggestions
What if you shoot them three hundred meters away with a rifle? Blood from wounds and close combat would be good, but not as a bandit indicator. It would be a conversation starter when you notice a bloodstained machete, though. Bloodstained clothes after long periods of bleeding or massive wounds could be an indicator some-one needs some help. It would remove the "my clothes are stained with blood" message, too. -
Will there be consequences for your actions?
somethingbloody replied to cels's topic in General Discussion
I have seen Dean mention that chugging a lot of soda may be bad for your character in the long term. A lot of people are in favor of beards and stubble growing as you survive. It would be interesting if poor nutrition and hydration caused unhealthy pallor and bags under the eyes and repeated vomiting caused bloodshot eyes from burst vessels. The description on the morphine injector does say it may be "habit forming", too. As for actual changes based on your actions? Rocket has said he doesn't want the humanity system, and any sort of insanity system or something imposed for killing players is just a different implementation of that. -
Finally found a guy who refused to combat log.
somethingbloody replied to nighhawk's topic in General Discussion
Good on him, although it seems he was staying in to provide intel for his friends. I had a situation like this the other day. Me and a friend were heading south from Svetloyarsk to Rify. As we were coming to the back of the hill that overlooks the ship, we heard gunfire and went to investigate. My friend decided to flank up the hill towards the ocean side with his M4 and took shots. I took a burst of M4 rounds to my tree cover, and fired a few magnums at the muzzle smoke on top of the hill. Everything went quiet for a while, and we moved onto the hill to search. We couldn't find anyone (they may have ghosted), so we ran back towards the road and took fire again. I kept watching with my Mosin, and my buddy flanked to the right to the beach. This is when he freaked out, and I asked him what was wrong. A guy had popped out and held him up, and told him to drop his gun. He did so, and asked me to come and help. They had a conversation about their squad taking fire from the ship, and he told them truthfully that we weren't a part of that group, we came from Svetlo, heard shots and came to check it out and we were fired on. At this point the guy tells my buddy that they can see me moving up, and instructs him to tell me to stop. I do so. Despite the extreme stress of having your buddy at gunpoint, and 2-3 enemies that can see you that you can't see. Logging didn't come into my mind. They instructed me to drop my weapon and come out. It seemed it was a misunderstanding, and it would be my preference that all of us walk away with our lives, but I wasn't going to come out, leaving my weapons on the floor and give them no reason not to execute us. I replied (through my hostage friend) that if they wanted to talk they could send one of their crew out with his weapon lowered and I would do the same, and we could come to an arrangement, but I wasn't ditching my weapons. They didn't seem to like that and when my buddy tried to negotiate further one said "No. Too late." and put the gun to his head. I prepared to take a burst from my woodland watcher. And then... No message received for 11 seconds Well, fuck. That was the most tense experience I've had in DayZ, with no logging (unless they were ghosting) and the server restart cut it short for us all. Also, my friend lost the M4 he dropped on the ground, so I'm glad I didn't lose my Mosin and magnum. -
How Many People Were Killed By You?
somethingbloody replied to colbykid's topic in General Discussion
Kill one: First session. Got lost, found the NEAF, geared up and found my way back to the coast. Spotted a guy going into the Berezino construction site and went to talk to him. Shot a zombie so we could talk and saw him running at me with a shovel. Tried to fire at him but "click" the Mosin was empty. We danced around, splitter vs. shovel (with another zombie in the mix) until I got sick of it, sprinted away while reloading, turned and killed him before passing out and dying of blood loss. Kill two: Just spawned, a guy ran into the house I was in. He wouldn't respond, then he flipped me off. Punched him to death and said, "Be polite!" Kill three: Today, started playing on a hardcore server. I was waiting for a friend to come and meet me, so I grabbed a spot in the apartments across the road from the Berezino supermarket. I saw a guy with a helmet and a fire extinguisher make his way into the apartment. I chatted, "Who enters my domain? I am the lord of all you see!" and he said hello and asked if I was friendly. I said "It depends." He then asked where I was, and I told him I was behind him. He turned and walked down the hall into the room I was in. After some cordial "how you doin"s, he raised his fists and lowered them, and started slowly walking towards me. I had my fire axe out but hadn't made any aggressive moves, and he pulled his extinguisher and took a swing. I dispatched him with my axe and yelled, "Fire axe wins, motherfucker" and laughed my way out of there. That is 61 hours, and those are my only kills. I've had some tense moments and a gunfight turned hostage situation that would probably have led to my death if the server hadn't reset. Most of the time I've been fully geared and just surviving up north, and meeting up with friends when they log on to play. I still haven't actually killed anyone with my gun. -
He did seem to be looking at you. Could have been without a mic or maybe he couldn't speak English. Was that on dev branch? Have they instituted the log-off timer? Maybe he had logged. Anyway, that was an awesome flank on that Rify sniper. Well done.

We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.
somethingbloody replied to 1S1K-Airborne's topic in General Discussion
It is 30+ pages of definitive justification of Rocket's choice to scrap the humanity system. -
Will Preventing Server-Hopping Increase Kos?
somethingbloody replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
The five minute penalty should come with a screen that tells you: "THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU DID." -
Raw Mouse Input Is Crucial To Immersion
somethingbloody replied to sidwulf's topic in General Discussion
I agree that the mouse handling should be brought up to Arma 3 standard. However, you can't just whip it out and leave it. We need another system implemented to simulate the same issue. We can't reward some-one doing a snap 180 with high sensitivity with a kill on some-one who has positioned themselves well. What if you're holding some-one up and convincing him to drop his weapon and he turns impossibly fast and snap headshots you? I would probably add an accuracy penalty after moving your point of aim more than say ninety degrees. Then you could still try that shot, but you won't be as accurate. -
Will Preventing Server-Hopping Increase Kos?
somethingbloody replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
Remember that this will mean it will take them longer to get guns. This will mean more time spent scavenging and surviving for everyone. People will still KoS, but they'll have other stuff to worry about. Large packs of M4 toting bandits will become pretty rare, if it works out. -
Is your in-game name [TFA] Scott by any chance?

Anyone noticed this thread popped up within 24 hours of this one? Do you think... If so, holy shit.

It'd be ludicrous to think there WONT be a functioning train
somethingbloody replied to autoloon's topic in General Discussion
There is a train station north-west of Gvozdno. It has several cargo cars on the tracks. How do you plan to get around those? -
A journal/clip-board. No one will ever pick up paper if it takes up a slot in your inventory. Why not have a little black book that you can fold a map into, write notes to yourself, store extra paper/found notes or tear some out to make a note. Maybe you could choose statistics to display in the book, such as "days survived". Imagine a combination of the journal from Morrowind and the leather clip-board from Metro, complete with paperclips, post-it note tabs and map pieces poking out. I think it would add a lot of character and utility. A selection of knives would be awesome, too. Beyond the bayonets and the kitchen knife I'd like to see: -Switchblades, folding knives and maybe a balisong/butterfly knife -Swiss army knives and multi-tools/leathermans -A khukuri -A machete -A hatchet I'd also like to see lanyards/slings, as well as improvised versions from ropes and belts. They would be required to sling a weapon for a quicker draw, as well as allow you to keep a med-kit or canteen on your person rather than in your bag. For balance reasons, it would probably need a weight system implemented. Although, choosing to have your medkit on a sling would be a balance between saving backpack slots and having a bright red bag on your character model.

Might be a good idea to tell people where in the world you are, so your hitman/hit-clan doesn't have a lag disadvantage. Try and keep the guy on your Steam contacts list if you can, then you can follow him into servers using the "friends" tab in the server browser, and your hit-clan can follow you in that way too.

Dear developers, hear my plea. [priorities, not additions]
somethingbloody replied to bobotype3334's topic in Suggestions
Some-one doesn't listen. Adding pants and boots variations are not done by software engineers who work on server stability, they are done by artists. They are not trained in the same programs. They take wildly different amounts of effort and time. They are working on it, and you are just complaining and insulting everyone who tries to educate you. And can that rubbish about being a consumer. You paid $30 bucks to be a tester, being a consumer comes later. There was a disclaimer when you bought the game, and there is a disclaimer you click "I understand" on every time you fire up the game. The best you can do is make an account on the bug tracker and upvote the issues that concern you, which I can guarantee are already there. Given the state of these forums, I doubt the devs come into the suggestions area very often, and probably don't pay attention to threads that don't get a lot of beans. And given that you insult everyone and think typing in capitals help people understand your urgency better, I doubt that is going to happen. -
Yeah, as mentioned, Dean is already planning on making the fridges lootable. They have to work on a script for it first. it is a good idea, but we should still have objects lying around. I think it would also cut down on server clutter and allow more loot and zombies for less. I'd like to add that the radios you find in houses should sometimes contain batteries. You could also use them to tune into radio frequencies, allowing you to stop in a house and check the airwaves for chatter (listen only). Also, the radio towers themselves could have broadcast equipment and a petrol generator to get it started. Imagine if you could fill a generator with petrol, fire up the broadcast tower and leave a recording on repeat for other survivors to hear.

We need them because there needs to be alternatives to supplementary voip. You should be able to team up with friendly people that you meet, but the need to use voice chat for basic stuff gives away your position. Using a voip program is an exploit that gives an unfair advantage to people who squad up out of game. I don't mind, and I use Skype with my friends to meet up and communicate, but we do need systems that give a bit of power back to those who don't, and provide an alternative for players who don't want to use the exploit.

Please eliminate server restarts
somethingbloody replied to bad_mojo (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
We definitely need some way to balance server performance and the sort of persistent world Rocket wants. Right now I'm seeing 2-4 hour restart servers everywhere. Another issue is that it makes the day/night cycle completely meaningless. If and when the lighting engine improves to Arma 3's standard we're going to want to see night time. We do need zombies and loot to respawn dynamically, but we also need it to be done in a way that prevents loot cycling. When hordes are implemented, they should spawn somewhere with no players a kilometer or two from the emptied town and move in. This would make fortifying a town more exciting, too, as you prepare to defend against a wave of zombies. I have no idea how you'd do it, though. Maybe you could have areas that have been looted respawn their loot every 3-6 hours to prevent people sitting around waiting for it to happen, and make it more of a staged restart rather than a full server wipe. You should of course be able to save your hiding spots, maybe using a tent or backpack to do so. That would make the improvised packs useful to people with hunting/hiking packs, because you could keep the required components in your bag, then craft the bag and hide it, and it would remain on server restart. We should definitely aim for server full server restarts every 24+ hours if possible, but we also need the ability to create a persistent world beyond those restarts. -
Bandanas you can change with a right-click into: Face-mask Arm-band Head-band Neckerchief Fingerless gloves (Mitten cover variant perhaps) Dusters with hoods (again, right click in inventory to raise or lower hood) Military/Police surplus sweater in olive, blue and black: Blankets (cut a hole in that sucker and you've got yourself a poncho)

Also, the animation should just put the gun (or knife) to your head, and you should actually have to pull the trigger.

The engine already has the ability to augment a keypress with a double-tap or ctrl+key. Then we also have the opportunity to make lists with sub-commands. Think about tapping F5 for "stop/freeze" and double-tapping for "Go". Also, you hold down a key and you get a scroll menu of gestures unique to that key. Combining single-press, double-tap, and scroll menu/number menu, we could easily have a gesture for every occasion from most urgent to least urgent.

Of course they should be in, and they will in good time. It is just a case of rarity, difficulty and complexity. I also don't want bicycles to be everywhere. Chernarus is cold, bicycles would not be the primary method of transportation. Many people would have used their bikes to escape during the zombie apocalypse, so the bikes that were left around should be bike-locked to posts and bike stands or have a bent wheel or a punctured tire. I don't think cars should all be in an inoperable state, but we need more range and interest to the damage states. No car would spawn completely pristine, and damage states would cause things like unresponsive braking, frequent stalling, extra noise and smoke, a shattered windscreen that is hard to see through and makes your character get very cold while driving (Chernarus wind-chill. Ouch) So a lot of cars would work with minimal fixing, but they wouldn't work well. Other modifications like saddle-bags for your dirt-bike or an improvised steel front bumper would be great things to work towards. The main concern is how much power will the server admins have to spawn vehicles and control their conditions.

[Community Suggestion] Friendly UN Uniform
somethingbloody replied to BattleSarge's topic in Suggestions
Eugh. So sick of people associating the gas mask and helmet with banditry. When disease and infection is implemented, the mask will be a practical choice. The helmet is good for avoiding blood loss from zombie hits and protects you from shots. It is good survival gear. But oh no, it looks so scary. Better shoot that guy on sight and then I feel like a hero. -
Can you get your head to the window/port-hole? Maybe you can get a friend to get up on the hill with a Mosin and snipe you through the window? Also, you might want to try drinking Jeff.
