How do you trade vehicles if this is on various servers? -
Didn't they disable this? Which I thought was a great change...if a compass wasn't such a commodity item. Last night I took a tally on some of the loot I found this week: 2 M14s, M24, 5-6 M4A1s, 2 M16s, M16 w/ ACOG, MK48, PDW, M4A3 CCO, ghillie suit, 2 compasses (one given to me from a friend).

Maybe I am just very, very unlucky...but in the past 2 weeks I have managed to find more M4/M16 variant assault rifles (without farming) than I have found compasses (with extensive farming of markets and Church). In fact I have found about 10 of those weapons, and 1 compass. Can the spawn rate of watches be reduced, and the number of compass given a considerable increase? Lately I have been relying on my server's website map for almost all cross country navigation, which really I hate to do, and hinders the immersion of the survival experience. In my most recent trip to market I found 3 watches ffs. :|

http://www.7thcavalry.us/ The RoE for the Arma 2 section is pretty reasonable considering it is a MilSim game, but the TS3 protocols are weird. It looks like they did remove the thing about getting bathroom permission, but I swear it was there. Arma 2 looks like a fun game, but I don't want to be taking a game "too far". One of the DayZ servers I played on was hosted by Arma 2 clan, and I went to their website once. They had all these rules that you had to follow for the most simple tasks. You had to ask permission from the CO to leave for a bathroom break, for example. Now I doubt he would say no to anyone...but I'm still not going to ask someone for permission to take a piss....that is just ridiculous. Following the chain of command with large teams is definitely going to get you further, I agree. I never said that it wouldn't. But in small groups you can do just fine without, if everyone has the common sense to stay calm while speaking. I don't know what tactical is? I'm in one of the high tier clans for one the best tactical RTS games ever made, Company of Heroes (Men of War may have more strategic depth, but is much slower paced and lacks a good interface). If players respect the chain of command, it undeniably makes a team of unacquainted players more efficient. But a group of friends that are well acquainted with playing as a team together will not benefit by ordering each other around. It may help to have someone calling the shots in a very large team game like Arma 2, or even BF3 if you are playing with 30 clanmates. In DayZ when you are generally working in small groups of 3-6, you don't need to have a CO. Naturally the group (if they aren't noobs) will trust the judgement of the most experienced player, but that doesn't mean someone needs to assert themselves as the leader. I agree what you said about about BF3 not being realistic, and I never said that it was. Also agree that for the most part the game is chaos. I don't play BF3 with a humongous clan of 30 players, I usually just play it with 2-3 others and we try to be the best squad. If most of the team is being retards doesn't really matter much to me, if we played well is what counts. A few good squads is all that is needed to win, even if half the team are braindead. Ok I've been respectful to everyone else until now. Calling me lazy because I don't want to run for an extra 20min in a game? You are the noob, if you want to run then get off your ass and do it outside. Come to anyoneincherno registration server and I'll show you how to play. I'm not in favor of spawning in Cherno or Elektro every time, I just don't want want to be spawning 15 minutes away from even the most basic materials. Adding spawns outside Zelanogorsk or Berezino would be great, I'm tired of all the action happening at the 2 noob cities.

Before I start the story, here is a little background on the involved players equipment: Myself- AK74u, 3 mags Bandit #1- FN FAL, 10 mags Bandit #2- AS50, 3 mags Bandit #3- unknown Friendly: hatchet :P This past hour some hackers in black SUV with bandit skin drove past me at the Kamenka bridge and honked. I killed hacker #1 as he exited, and then lit up hacker #2 in the driver seat and killed him as well. Hacker #3 switched to the driver seat (I didn't see him because of the tinted windows :S) and drove off down the road. I was being cautious because I was afraid #3 would drive off, then come back in the trees to flank me). About 30 seconds later, some unarmed person spawned at the coast and instantly broke my bone and killed me without firing a shot < obvious hacks. I spend 20 minutes running back to my body, accompanied by another person (I passed him at Balota) that I told to follow me so I could lead him to nice loot. I get there a minute before he does, and looted hacker #1....I was going to let him loot hacker #2 and my body. When that friendly was about 250 meters away from the body locations, a unannounced server reset deletes all the bodies. I felt really bad for him missing out after all that running. I ran away from the body locations towards him, and I explained what happened. Then I see him fall to the ground and hear a very loud crack. Hacker #2 entered the server alive with his gear intact! He shot at me and missed, I whipped around and hit him 3 times with the FN FAL, killing him. Then I disconnected ASAP because I feared that ackers #1 may have also been magically reincarnated there! Me- 3 Hackers- 1 It's just embarrassing that I beat them so badly while outgunned and playing on my 10fps Lenovo thinkpad!

Being a bandit is fun...doesn't mean you aren't good at the game. Before my crew started on a new private hive, they had (I was pretty inactive for about a month) multiple FNFAL/M14s, various sniper rifles, multiple M4 CCOs with tons of stanag mags, 2 vehicles, our own personal NVGs with about 4 spares, our own person ghillie suits with about 6 spares, a few GPS devices, and much more. About half of it was looted from the spawn, the other half was either stolen from a camp or taken from a dead body. Calling someone CoD kiddie is just someone being butthurt. Either they forgot that you can't trust anyone, or they are not a good enough to win a head to head engagement. If someone who you claim, has very little experience with how DayZ is "supposed to be played", is able to kill you...just embarrassing huh? And to the people that say CoD doesn't take teamwork: neither BF3 or DayZ require teamwork. It is just how the people choose to play the game. The small scale of the MW3 maps puts an emphasis on fast reflexes and good accuracy, but you can still work as a coordinated squad if you choose. -

I don't think the CoD kids all just cooperatively migrated to DayZ. I think a combination of these 3 theories is the cause of that. 1) There were a small amount of bandits when the game was released. These few people slowly made the player base become more and more paranoid, until "trust no one" became words of truth. There were probably people that were running around making friends with everyone back in May, but after a few bad run ins with the rare bad apples...they began preemptively shooting on site. Maybe one time he shot someone that was new to the game, and gave this person the first impression that most people were out for blood. Simply put; paranoia domino effect. 2) After a few weeks playing, people realized that the Zombies weren't actually a threat, but more of an annoying obstacle (deal relatively low damage, often get stuck on obstacles, can be outrun, can be lost by running through buildings, are easy to kill, etc). People gradually became less friendly either because they no longer thought that working in large groups was essential to survival, or because they felt the need to hunt a more dangerous game. 3) After either being forced into a few thrilling showdowns with the occasional bandit, or watching exciting videos on Youtube/Twitchtv, survivors slowly began to embrace PvP as the most enjoyable way to play the game. This. It has nothing to do with CoD. It is how society is about everything (money, land, etc.) Regular Arma 2 doesn't give rewards for killing either afaik. Don't tell me the goal of Arma 2 is not to kill people. You even get a badass balaclava for having bad humanity, that can be a reward depending on your perspective. Some people play SC2 because they enjoyed the first game as a kid, and want a casual past time. Most people in Korea play SC2 because they strive to play it competitively for money. Not everyone plays for the same reasons. If you don't like getting shot at, then host your own server and kick bandits. I wouldn't be surprised if there are already servers with a no PvP rule. -

CoD kiddies don't play DayZ, they play CoD. People that use this analogy are either butthurt because they are bad, or just aren't experienced enough in DayZ to know the golden rule: don't trust strangers! -
I just don't like the idea at all. Let's say you are either at airfield or approaching military tents but then your GF shows up at your house unexpected, you receive important call, etc. You just got screwed over for having a life. Playing 10 hours a day is already a big advantage (more time getting loot, more likely to find vehicles or crash sites, etc.), punishing someone for not giving a middle finger to the real world is just uncalled for. If you want the real thing, just enlist in the military.

I don't always shoot on sight, it really depends on the situation. Last night when there was only 6 people online someone else in Cherno asked for a blood transfusion, so I met up with him and gave it to him. However if he entered the city unannounced and was carrying a threatening weapon, I wouldn't hesitate shooting him. If I saw an unarmed person running along the coast I would let him go...but if I walked past an unarmed person as he approached possible weapon spawn points, I would shoot him dead. It's better to shoot a nice guy who at the time seemed like a threat...rather than getting killed because I hesitated to shoot someone or was betrayed by a false friendly. If you only kill others in self defense, I consider that the same as being a survivalist. Being an avid fan of PvP, I like to go looking for trouble. :D I agree, which is why I play all 3. All are very different games, it is like comparing chicken to fish to steak. About the "tactical" thing, staying alive is the main reason I see for being strategic. If hypothetically we came across a group of bandits all carrying either Makarovs or double barrel shotguns, we would easily win that engagement without a plan.

The idea of a human body lying in hibernation mode for possibly weeks is equally unrealistic. Lots of people share tents, maybe some people haven't even set up one yet. If every unique user had their own tent, a medium sized server would probably have 5+ tents in every km2 of wilderness.
