Instead of waiting for standalone, purchased on Steam. Any tips while it downloads and installs?

Looking for a small group to play with. Hero type, don't want to kill unless necessary. I have mic and will get TS or Ventrilo if need be to talk. Will hope you can put up with my newbieness, but I've watched a ton of videos. So i know a thing or two already.

Reasonable request, and, aside from starting your own server and opening it only to your friends, there isn't really much you CAN do about it atm. If it's that big of a risk on 30 bucks, then I'd say wait. -

While right now, i do really wannna play and i payed a meer 15 dollars for a used copy with an already banned key... I will be waiting for the standalone i suppose. Might pick up WarZ in the meantime, but definitely both to compare. DayZ's experience seems to trump WarZ tho. -
I get messages that just say "Admin ban" What does this mean? i haven't even played yet, how do i get banned?

DayZ is exactly what i was looking for in a zombie survival game, whatever the cost, it will be worth it.

I guess i should restate... chances of testing WITH the standalone. Cannot connect to the Arma2 Mod because of CD key issues. I've been trying to connect with Playwithsix, DayZ Commander tells me my path is incorrect or something, but Playwithsix connects to game, and allows me to browse servers. I was able to connect to a single russian server, but it was lagging so bad it was like i was taking 3 steps forward then 5 back. -

Hey, new player, just got all set up, major problem.... Everytime i join a server, i get banned.

The ban messages are saying something like "You have been banned." or "You have been kicked." or "Admin Ban" My copy of Arma 2 was purchased at a garage sale, previous owner had no knowledge of DayZ however.

I haven't been able to even connect fully to a server.... how can you assume im hacking? I sign in and before i can even create a character, or however it works, i am told i am banned....
