The most immersion killing thing in all of DayZ is people using teamspeak or VOIP, yet no one seems to care about that, so stop acting like immersion breaking is such a big deal. The death messages will help build story and community and will ultimately lead to a better experience for everyone.

Most people use some kind of voip while playing so I doubt most people consider it to be immersion breaking. Or they don't care. Seems to me that most people that are against it are snipers who don't like it because it makes it easier to teack them down and then use the immersion excuse while happily talking to their friends on skype or whatever. Personally I think that side chat makes the game better. It helps to create interesting situations that wouldn't happen without it. I say have it but let people disable it. That way people who think it breaks immersion can turn it off but people who want to build communities can still use it. Win-win.

Oh I've been murdered plenty of times. It doesn't bother me because I don't give two shits about my gear. I don't whine and I don't rage. I just respawn and keep playing. I don't want the pvp to change, it's essential to the atmosphere of the mod. I do, however, believe in calling KOS, or lying that you are friendly and then murdering someone, what they are. Which is cowardly play styles. That doesn't mean they are bad. Cowards are absolutely essential to this mod.

Not only do I think that you shouldn't spawn anywhere near your body, I think you should be kicked from the server when you die and not be able to rejoin it for 30 minutes or so. We need to make death a giant pain in the ass to discourage COD type gameplay.

I am always friendly. Had the hero skin for most of my playing time. I believe KOS is the coward's way. I'm not a pacifist but I do have a moral code when it comes to shooting other players and this code is best summed up by Mal from Firefly, "You don't know me, son. So let me explain this to you once: If I ever kill you, you'll be awake, you'll be facing me, and you'll be armed." This has gotten me killed by many a sniper and fake-friendly survivor. It will not stop me and I will not change. Cowards and liars can take my beans but they'll never take my honor.

What the hell does that even mean? I don't get this 'carebear' term. Is it supposed to be an insult or does it just refer to anyone who does not pvp or is there some specific meaning that I haven't come across? I usually see it used by pvp'ers and I assume they mean it as an insult (like when misogynist young boys call others whiteknights for not being douchebags to women), but this usage has confused me.

Wincheaters already one shot zombies and are reasonably quiet. The high end gear only helps against players, which is a legitimate use, but isn't as much about survival. Anyway, I don't think anyone is asking for there removal here. It seems that most just want them to be appropriately rare. And personally, I take offense to the attitude that PVPers have against everyone else. They seem to think DayZ belongs to them and considering how broken the mod is, they're right. But I think that is an accident of all the bugs and hacking and not by design. I really hope the standalone takes DayZ away from the deathmatching and makes it a unique experience again. Anyways, we're all talking in circles until the standalone comes out.

If you think high end loot and killing other players is the point of the game, then have fun doing that. But stop acting like that makes you better or more of a real DayZ player than people who do not share your same view. Personally I don't understand why people like you don't just play tegular ARMA. I am guessing because it is the unfairness of the fights that tickle your low hangers, and that's fine. DayZ is what you make it. Also, don't care what you went through to find your loot. I'm sure you're one of the 1% of deathmatchers who got all their gear legitimately. I am sure you are. Point is, once you have it, you then play "I have a huge advantage noobie murder time". Which is DayZ easy mode. Your choice to play that way, doesn't matter to me. I get murdered all the time but I don't give a shit about my loot. So I don't cry, I respawn. I'll still try to talk to people in game and have an experience that is deeper than COD Chernarus. If that's all you want, then go do it, but stop bitching at people who want something deeper and more interestig from their DayZ experience.

Do the high tier weapons make it easier to survive? Yes. Therefore the high tier weapons represent easy mode. I don't care how hard they are to find, people who use them are playing DayZ on easy. Maybe you think getting high end loot is the point of the game, and in that case, congratulations you won. Now go murder some noobs and tell yourself that you are a hardcore DayZ master. Be sure to use the excuse that that is what people would do in real life. The fact is, people want high end loot because it makes them feel special and they think it is cool. Can't blame them for that, generations of video games have programmed them to think that way. When given a game with no end game, people fall back to what is familiar. And that is the reason we have Cherno deathmatch. People can't decide a purpose for themselves beyond what every other game has taught them to do. So they collect the leet military gear and go shoot each other. I hope these players are sorely disappointed with the standalone. The fixing of duping should scare off some of these short attention span, instant gratification kids. When it takes days, or hopefully weeks, to find a military weapon and the ammo to go with it, these kids won't be so quick to run off on a murder spree. Weeks of work for at most a few hours of pay off won't be worth it and they will move on. I especially can't wait for the ones who are all cocky and think they will be the one dude who is super leet enough to keep playing that way. Those tears will be the tastiest.

True, information is the best advantage. And you make a good point regarding hotspots. Still, I think the focus should be on player interaction. If certain pieces of gear discourage player interaction, I'd argue the game would be better off without it and if it encourages interaction, the game is better of with it. PVP with no goal beyond killing other players has been done to death, I'd hate to see DayZ fall down this hole. I am really hoping that more dangerous zombies and less high end loot will fix these problems.

I disagree completely. Having choppers doesn't make DayZ unique at all. They weren't even in the game always. DayZ was supposed to be about giving you a sandbox and letting you have interesting interactions with other players (I thought). With all the high end military gear it is becoming just another military shooter. I don't care what equipment is in the game as long as the focus stays on unique player interactions. All these treads obsessed with equipment are part of the problem. They lead to a slippery slope of this becoming just another gear based shooter. There is nothing interesting or unique about getting shot from a helicopter, I can get that in BF3 if that is what I want. What I can't get in BF3 is kidnapped or robbed or teamed up with someone I don't know if I can trust. That is what DayZ should be concentrating on.

Helicopters, thermals, nvgs, all these things make the game easier. So it seems to me that keeping them in game makes DayZ more carebear-ish. I am really confused by the attitudes here. Maybe I am misunderstanding. How is wanting to remove items that make the game easier the "carebear" option?

I'll let you answer that. Now realise that that answer just proved my point. There's nothing wrong with playing DayZ the easy way, so stop taking it personally.

What idea? This game is play how you want. There is no difficulty setting, it is up to you to choose your own difficulty. This can pretty much only be done by limiting yourself to less than top tier equipment. Therefore, people who play with top tier equipment are playing easy mode. This is not difficult to understand and nothing needs to be done about it. Play easy mode if you want or set some restrictions on yourself and play "hardcore" mode. But don't come on here and act like having the best equipment and sniping people who aren't even looking for you is "hardcore" when it is actually the easiest way to play the game. Logic, it's pretty simple.

That response doesn't really mean anything. AS50's and ghillies ARE the lowest common denominator. They are everywhere and since they make the game easier, everyone uses them. It's ok if you like to play DayZ easy mode, but stop pretending that that isn't what you are doing.

Cause if you don't and instead run around with top tier loot and think you are hardcore, you are kidding yourself. So many of you super leet badasses grab duped top tier loot then hunt people who aren't trying to kill you and have normal loot and then you call them carebears, when in reality, they are playing way more hardcore than you.
