99% sure it's just the number of days passed since the character was made. The count will usually reset once you swap out to a different skin though.

What would you like to see in the stand alone?
Sonblade (DayZ) replied to NovaDose's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
To some extent, randomly generated maps unique to each server. This would prevent server hopping to get the best loot, but would bring up the problem of a central Hive being able to handle such a thing (ie: would require a unique database for each server and no persistence between each one). It would also make for a true sense of exploration and suspense from not knowing where everything is. I would love to see people having to make their own maps due to this. There would definitely have to be some pre-defined attributes to each map so there isn't that one-in-a-million chance of a server with just forests. I would suggest something like, there will always be a coast, a town or city can only be so big, etc. I'd also like to see ammunition, food, and medical supplies be exceedingly rare commodities. -
Since 1.7.2.4, a new horror of Green Mountain makes your eyes bleed and your brain explode, may also cause motion sickness in some people.

Until ammunition, food, and medical supplies actually become rare, 9/10 players will keep playing DM. It's just too easy to reach 'end game' equipment currently. One trek up north will net you at the minimum one high-end military weapon with more than a little ammo to spare, either by the Barracks or by a crashed helicopter. If/When the drop rate for non-replenishable resources is made very low, I'd expect people who try to play DM to run out of ammo, then keel over and die in the woods from starvation since they have no one to help them. I'm at least hoping that the high drop rates for everything is just to test them (see: Ghillie/Camo breaking all the time, L85 disappearing) and isn't permanent.

this game is turning into a death match because zombies are easy.

The problem is the high spawn rate for weapons, ammo, and food. They are far too easy to get, so reaching 'endgame' is just an hours run up north. -
I'm a Bandit ~ But I'm Nice

Yes. Bandits are still human. Douchebags and Dick breathers however, are not. -

Stop googling "hot porn" and find some legitimate sites? -
Everything that's wrong with DayZ summed up in 2 hours

I at least hope that ammunition eventually becomes an incredibly rare commodity. In the current state, finding ammo for a specific gun is like finding sand on a beach. Very rare ammo = less people expending ammo on wasteful kills. -
Make ammo scarce. Make DayZ HARD.
Sonblade (DayZ) replied to andy_uk15@hotmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'd say make food and medical equipment just as scarce as ammunition. Weapons aren't used up or wasted in an infected apocalypse; food, bandages and ammunition are. You can't pry reusable bullets out of the bodies, nor can you take the food out of their stomach. Eventually, ammunition, medical supplies and food will be a rarity, while weapons will be in great supply. Bandits will have to weight killing a person vs. robbing them for their equipment, because who knows if they even have ammo. Survivors will have to decide between him/herself against a bandit(s), or giving up their equipment. If someone wants to go on a killing spree with their one STANAG magazine, let them. They'll be easy prey when they can't fight back against robbers. This will raise the tension of the game far more than the near-TDM situation that is going on at times currently. -
Press F until you cycle to it, which will be seen on the top right corner of your screen. To throw, Hold left click and pray it doesn't hit a wall and bounce back at you.

No, not fixes for the game you silly goose. Shoulder patches that will help identify groups of people. Basic idea (for the current state of the game) is a findable item, say cloth, could be found. Right clicking it will give you a color choice menu for available colors. After choosing a color, you will receive 10 Patches that can be given out to members of your group which will be equipped like camo or ghillie (oh the fun of being launched into the ocean on the first day this is released). The patch itself should be a small bar that should be visable on the shoulder, but small enough that you'd have to actually focus on it to see the color, not just take a quick glance from 20m away and tell what color it is. The colors should be only selected once per server until the group who selected a specific color have been killed off. They should not carry over from server to server to prevent people from going on one server and making a patch of the same color as another group and using it to infiltrate/murder them in a cheap way. This could be remedied by tying it to the server, maybe linking player ID to the item. Of course however, choosing a color similar to another group's should be more than possible. For non-affiliated murderers, they should receive a blood red patch (soaked in the blood of your prey) for getting a certain number of murders, but this could be overwritten with a crafted patch. Also, a dead person's patch should be obtainable so that the person that picked them off would be able to pretend to be a part of the group they were, then have an opportunity rob them while they are none the wiser. In future iterations such as a stand-alone game, this can be further refined. There are a few kinks that would exist such as joining a group on one server, then dying on another and respawning, then heading back to the server you were on which would technically lead you to having the patch there again (could be prevented by having the Hive telling the server you done died before). Also, a patch on the Ghillie would be hard/impossible to see, and if it was possible, it would ruin the stealth aspect of the suit. Then again, you shouldn't trust someone in a Ghillie unless they're your friend.

Looking for a good quality PC to play this. $400-$450 (medium settings)

I'd honestly doubt it. the 8400 GS is a very weak and outdated video card, the hard drive is tiny, and the processor is unlisted. -
Funniest Moments On DayZ, GO!

One time while playing alone a bit after dusk server time, I noticed some movement behind me; I instantly go behind a tree and constantly look around it. I see something behind grass, but no clear shot at it. The area my target was at had slopes going down it for around 2/3 of it, so I used this to my advantage to try and sneak around. I go prone and start crawling. I hear faint gunshots to the west, but ignore them, this guy is my sole target. I reach where I wanted to get to (had less cover than I was expecting), and see if I could line up a shot, but the target is still too obscured by the grass; Plan B: I lob a grenade in the general direction to make him run. I hear movement then the explosion. The grenade wasn't on target by the target sounded like it went to the woods downhill and to the west. Staying prone, I take the high ground and scope out the forest. Then I see it, a fucking rabbit. I had a standoff with a fucking rabbit. A fucking rabbit, who subsequently got run over by a bus which was chasing a guy through the woods. The guy was clearly out of ammo and running for his life, trying to bob and weave through the trees ineffectively. This scene passes, and there's a troupe of infected chasing the bus as well; a good 20 of them. Not wanting to deal with so many, I haul ass out of there and continue my fun times elsewhere.
