[GUIDE - STEAM] To those spawning invisible / No Debug + Errors / Beta Update
vonlinchen replied to lvg's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Thankyou for this, I wasn't aware that we had to have the LATEST beta patch for it to work. -
I presume in the future this will allow for a group chat option via mic, seeing as they will be removing all forms of gobal chat.

Don't like Bandits? Maybe you can do something about it.
vonlinchen replied to Techercizer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Humanity Carries over, always has (as far as I know). This suggestion is not RP its fairly lame, spawn camping is game breaking behavior. This also doesn't account for people killing in self-defense, If someone tries to kill you and you kill them before they kill you, you will still get a negative humanity hit. Also for the record, it isn't the bandit's hearbeat that you can hear, its your heartbeat :D -
Are 50 slot servers more stable then they were in 1.6?
vonlinchen replied to TDR Rag's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
One of the best servers (performance wise) that I have played on was a 76 slot one. If you are renting a server then the server provider will increase the resources available to the server to ensure it runs smoothly. -
Zombie Children YAY or NAY

Finally some people are trying to make the game fun
vonlinchen replied to Hirox3's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Alot of ideas have no real thought put into them other than "wouldn't it be great if...". There are much wider implications to alot of additional features and some people lack the understanding of game design to think them through properly. -
Whilst I agree that the updates have been happening very fast, it is not up to us to tell the devteam to slow down. If they are working this quickly on their mod then thats great! I myself have done some extensive modding in the fast & I know what its like when your on a rush and are able to add so many new features quickly :D Whilst its a bit of pain for us to keep updating, its very good for a dev team, they can quickly test their fixes & resolve things much more quickly & move on.

Massive Amounts of Servers Out Of Date
vonlinchen replied to vonlinchen's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm sorry but version preferance shouldn't come into it tbh. This is an alpha test, we're supposed to be playing the latest version to check for bugs, not picking and choosing which version we like best and sticking with it. Contacting all server providers shouldn't be too difficult, I presume the devteam has contact details for all of them. Using a mailing list would work just fine. -
I had one of these for a bit ^^ I had the L82 & range finders & my friend had the M107 I spotted targets with heatscope & found range and he zeroed to them and killed em :D Was freaking awesome, propper sniper team.

DayZ Mod is hitting Television News!
vonlinchen replied to Igor (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
BBC is only big in the UK. Fox News is national in the United States. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Fox_television_affiliates_(by_U.S._state) One makes news' date=' the rest follow up. Fox 5 News is also one of the dominant Fox News channels. [/quote'] WOW KID JUST WOW. "BBC is just UK" Ever heard of the BBC World service? You know the one that everyone on the planet uses? No come on, the one that let Coalition forces know that the invaision of Iraq was a go? Still no? The one that relayed information to the European resistance during WW2? Still nothing damn son! You need to leave the US once in your life. -

Idea for starting equipment. Classes.
vonlinchen replied to JKflipflop's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yay lets turn this disscussion into a flaming thread. -
People are going about this the wrong way, there doesn't need to be negative attached to killing people & being a bandit. There needs to be more positives attached to not being a bandit to encourage people to be more honorable/less of a complete douche ^^

I got jumped north of elektro at night by a guy with an AK74, I managed to prone and toss 2 grenades right on him. My friend in the Powerplant near pissed himself when they went off. This is what I use granades for, lol. Scaring the shit out of people ^^

I'm sure when the mod is finished there will be some kind of tutorial or starting bonus for new players to help them get into the game. I do agree that spawning on the coast for the first time is quite exciting but perhaps spawning inland after you've died once could be interesting to. Having spawns inland would mean you'd run into less people & people would be much better equipt when you ran into them. If spawning inland were added however, there would need to be a re-balancing of the map, ATM the further north you go the better stuff you can get. This would have to change, which IMO isn't a bad thing.

How would you set up a trade?
vonlinchen replied to GodOfGrain's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I know newer players like to imagine these elaberate RP moments in the game but in reality this kind of circumstance would never happen. Tradding with someone would be near impossible, if you want to be this firendly you would be better off just pairing up with them. -
Idea for starting equipment. Classes.
vonlinchen replied to JKflipflop's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is an interesting concept, I'd never realy thought about having varried starting gear. It could help mix up gameplay a bit, however there are sveral problems: - Most people would probably pick the gun class (There shouldn't be a gun class, if melee is added, perhaps varied melee weapons) - If people dont get to pick what they start with they will continualy respawn to get what they want - This would provide incentive to kill new players for their different loot Worth putting a bit more thought into and not just having people post "NO WTF ARE YOU THINKING" -
Rocket, GJ on this Mod But...
vonlinchen replied to nahholmes's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is an alpha, it doesn't matter if shit is broaken, this is the point at which new elements are added to the game & tested. Beta is where the bugs will be fixed, unless game breaking. These posts are starting to annoy me, this is a mod that is being made in personal time without a cost to the alpha testers. If the dev team feel like adding one feature before another thats up to them, we should leave them to it. Instead of moaning at them & probably making them want to just give up o nthe mod all together. -
When I first started playing this game, me and my friends tried to help a few people and most of the time we got screwed. We then moved onto the phase of just killing everyone on sight for fun & because they were a threat to our survival. And I have now reached a new stage, which is a mixture of both realy. If I am alone I will attempt to avoid contact with other survivors, in a close engagement there is a 50/50 chance that I will be killed. If we are in a team then we will only engage people who we preceive as a threat (IE if someone is close by), or people who have loot that will benefit us. Allow me to share with you an expirence which I had the other day: I had just looted Chern & had gained an M16 with ammo, medical supplies and a full set of survial gear. I was just leaving the city to the west & saw a survivor heading toward the city with about 50 or so zombie chasing him. I decided to try and avoid him, I didn't want him to kill me & I didn't need that kind of aggro. But as he came closer it became appart that he had seen me & he made a B-line for me. I attempted again to hide from him but he saw me once more, he was getting very close & I decided to run into a building, he followed me in. Me in one corner of the room & him in the other, I was ready to shoot him but he didn't seem interested in killing me. As the zombies began pouring into the building he I began shooting at them, but there were alot of them and they were fillin g the room we were in. The other survivor was knocked down, I heard his bones break & he was knocked out, surrounded by 10 zombies. I fired into the group until all the zombies around him were dead and finished up the rest of the infected in the building. I was then faced with a dilema, I thought about just leaving him there but blood was pooling around him, if I left he would surely die. I crouched down and began bandaging his wounds, as I did this I realised that he hadn't fired a single shot, he had no ammunition. I had plenty to spare so after patching him up I put some mak clips in his bag. I gave him a blood transfusion and left before he awoke. I have found a ballance of ensuring my own safety whilst still adhearing to the RP factor of the game. I am a bandit but killing a noob who has nothing to offer me is pointless. Another expirence I had recently: Me and a friend were looting on th elecktro shool roof, looking on the hills for possible snipers. We were on the roof for about 30 seconds when someone in chat began asking if we were friendly. We didn't respond, after all we were bandits, we dropped to the floor and began looking for the person who had seen us. We saw him, standing on the hospital roof looking right at us, we should have been dead men. He had some kind of assault rifle, for a moment we considered killing him but he hadn't killed us. We spoak in chat, telling him that we were not friendly but we would grant him amnesty for not killing us. He agreed and we went our seperate ways. I believe this is how this game should be played, I protect myself but operate on some kind of honor system, as I would in real life.

I did somthing similar, I went on a shooting spree in Chern, killed about 30 people and marked all their corpses on the map.
