Put Bandages Back On Mouse Wheel Please

I do see the current implementation being more useful when there are multiple items that accomplish the same purpose. If there were different items that stopped bleeding, it would be much more useful to utilize the gear system. I'm only supporting this idea as it stands because there is only one item used to stop bleeding, shaking, and to fix fractures so there isn't any discrepancy about which type of item to use like with water (soda/water bottle) and food (can/cooked meat) when utilizing the mouse-wheel procedure.

Put Bandages Back On Mouse Wheel Please

I've already explained the process on how to apply bandages now and how it was before. I never said it was hard, I just said the previous procedure was faster. I understand that I'm portraying a regular guy, but I'm also not autistic. If you feel that it's more realistic for a sane person like yourself to throw everything they have into one bag to sort through under stress and/or while bleeding, that's fine, and I hope they keep this feature just for those who feel that this accurately portrays how they would pack in a survival situation. However, I would still like to suggest (which is the basis of this subforum) that the previous mouse-wheel procedure be implemented back in because some people portray themselves as organized individuals and can immediately reach for bandages to save, at most, a few seconds of additional bleeding (which is the main focus of what you seem to be getting really defensive over). The fact that it was implemented prior to 1.5.8 would require little additional development time. We're not asking to remove the bandage animation. We're not asking to remove the concept of bleeding. It's a very simple modification regarding quality of life for the player.

    Cannibalism and You.

I don't think cannibalism is a good feature for this game for the reasons below: 1. If anyone can cannibalize, to players who are strictly playing (i.e. not roleplaying), they will most likely always cannibalize any other players they kill simply because of the additional resources that can be gained. This can, in turn, make everyone a cannibal which is an unrealistic long-term result of this feature. 2. If DayZ requires players of low humanity (now hidden) to be able to cannibalize, it will give players a major incentive to partake in PvP combat more often, which will reduce potential friendships with strangers even further. This type of implementation will also give +1 favortism to bandits unless there is another feature that incentivizes survivors in some way. Bandits will probably do whatever it takes to stay competitive so basically all bandits will be cannibals which is unrealistic in nature.

    temporary bandaging

I understand that there may be times where you cannot find the time to bandage yourself. However, that item you are suggesting sounds incredibly unrealistic. I'm not a doctor, but I haven't heard of anything that you can use that stops bleeding in the manner in which you describe. For the purposes of this thread, I would like to suggest that you can issue a command to apply pressure to your character's wound. Doing so can reduce the loss of blood over time, but you cannot do anything while applying pressure to yourself. (I'm just throwing the idea out for the sake, I haven't thought of any extensive repercussions of this feature)

    carrying capacity etc.-

The grid-based inventory system currently implemented in DayZ is the same as ArmA. Converting it to a weight-based inventory system is a bit more realistic, in my opinion, especially when some items are disproportional to how much space it should take in comparison to other items. However, doing so would require a decent overhaul of the inventory system which will take up a good chunk of development time. Not to mention that all items will need to have weight numbers associated and will take more time to get the balancing act right. I would love to see it implemented, but I understand the complexity of the project so I'm not really fazed if it doesn't happen. You can read more about it from a previous thread here: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=1339

Put Bandages Back On Mouse Wheel Please

In the interest of constructive feedback, when I pack my gear I know exactly where all my things are. My character appears to be wearing some sort of MOLLE personal armor. Most people wearing MOLLE gear would have a pouch dedicated to first aid equipment. I don't dig into a giant dump bag containing all my things as that is inefficient in every way. That's how I handle first aid gear, that's how most military servicemembers handle their first aid gear, so you'll have to excuse me if I think my character should handle first aid gear that way as well, especially if it's in my active inventory (not in the backpack, that's different). While off-topic but still on the baseline of the discussion regarding menus, how come reloading doesn't involve pressing G and right-clicking another slot of ammunition to reload?

Most people should know to instinctively apply bandages when they are bleeding. I assume you portray your character in DayZ as yourself if you were in a zombie apocalyptic situation. In real life, if you were bleeding, you shouldn't need to check every pocket you have just to point at your bandages, then think about what you should do with them. It's not a fault with realism, it's merely a quality of life issue in a video game. You know what bandages do. Why shouldn't our characters?

In the interest of efficiency under stressful situations I do agree that selecting bandages, morphine, and painkillers under the mouse wheel option was a much more viable solution. The current method works too, and the timing can probably be attuned over time, but I won't argue that having it on the mouse wheel is much faster. Old procedure: Roll mouse wheel to selection > Left click New procedure: G > (Wait for crouch if not already) > Move mouse to a small box containing bandages > Right click > Apply bandage

Restore Blood \ Health Over Time

Blood regeneration is viable and more logical than instantly gaining 200 blood from eating baked beans and 800 blood from cooked meat. Surprise! Your body naturally produces blood over time. It would actually promote realism over simply consuming sustenance. My suggestion would be to promote slow blood regeneration when the need for water and/or food is low (green to yellow). Even if you were to gain 1 drop of blood every 30 seconds, it will take 100 hours to regain 12000 blood, which is a little over 4 days which is a reasonable amount of time for a person to fully recover (definitely for a game). If the game requires your character to be constantly hydrated and fed to recover blood, the time it takes will be significantly longer. All I'm saying is: I can regain 6400 blood in a matter of minutes by shooting a cow in the face, gutting it, making a fire, and cooking and eating 8 pieces of cooked meat. Finding a cow is moderately difficult, but generally this strategy isn't hard and I really doubt that you can make yourself over 50% healthier in real life by grilling and eating steaks.

    Can't eat

Not that I have this issue, but you should try changing your interface settings such as the scaling (it's in your video settings). Maybe setting it bigger or smaller may make the options show up. If the problem persists, you may need to submit a bug report.

Another "Why do I get shitty FPS" thread

There's only so much you can do. ARMA II is still one of the few games that will tax a new gaming computer extensively. In the link below you can see some benchmarks that show that the game still demands current-generation parts to achieve high quality graphics with high frame rates. All I'm saying is that with their test setup, they'll probably get higher frame rates with Battlefield 3, and we all know that game is prettier. In your particular case, I would start reducing settings. HDR is pretty taxing; I would turn that off. I don't get how your aspect ratio is 16:10 when your 3D resolution is 800x600 which is a 4:3 ratio. That's weird, but that's probably not important. Shadows can probably be lowered (I don't consider shadows super essential). Then I would start dropping other visual quality settings until you achieve an acceptable FPS (30 or higher). 12. I'm just going to provide some feedback based on certain perspectives: Player standpoint --- 1. New players will most likely not start on a nighttime server when they know they can, just as easily, play on a daytime server. 2. New players are forced to use flares, which we all know are essentially beacons of death, whereas they can avoid doing that by playing on a daytime server until they acquire chemlights/flashlights/NVGs. 3. Anyone with NVGs will dominate other players at night, which players can avoid by playing in daytime servers. 4. "Just about everything regarding nighttime gameplay deincentivizes players that aren't properly prepared for it, so why bother with them?" Technical standpoint --- 1. Players are currently attracted to any and all servers that are currently providing daylight, which puts excessive strain on select servers. 2. Players will join overseas servers to play on daytime servers regardless of an elevated ping. Comments --- If the endgame result was to be close to real life, the mechanics that DayZ displays at its current state would be pretty unforgiving as it should be. Life is hard, and DayZ is portraying it accurately. However, DayZ is primarily a survival horror MMO game. Not only that, but it also has PvP combat. As such, sometimes you have to pull back the realism factor in the interest of fairness and overall gameplay. As it stands right now, nighttime servers offer nothing for the player (until acquiring chemlights/flashlights/NVGs) and as such you need to incentivize players who wish to participate in night-time gameplay. Some suggestions include: 1. Make DayZ consistently brighter (slightly) at night 2. Chemlights upon spawning 3. Higher chances of moonlight 4. Lower chances of rain at night 5. Higher chances of loot Thanks for taking the time to read it (if you did).
