    Dave in Zeleno

'twas not... John Doe was Dave's friend! *hysterical sobbing* Justicars? Nay, justice no longer exists in Chernarus.
  2. I searched the forums, and the only thing that came close to this suggestion were those describing clothing that becomes bloodied and dirtied. This is not what I'm suggesting. It's different, okay. Anyways, imagine being able to modify your clothing, in a way to make it more menacing (or less-so) or adorn it with various trophies and whatnot. For example, I could find a leather motorcycle jacket and stitching material. I could add a generic skull to the back of the jacket, or add studs, to show just how much of a hard-ass I am. Or, I could do the same with a baseball cap, or even paint various things (skulls, threatening words) on a motorcycle helmet. It could even be as simple as just pulling the hood up on a hoodie, or obscuring your face with a scarf, instead of just your neck. Anyways, use your imagination. The point of this suggestion is not to turn this game into the Sims, but to add more depth to the game. It'd give it a more gritty feel, without having us find generic loot that's already been ''meaned-up'' for us. Players will make the choice, if they have the adequate materials, to show their colors. I think most die-hard bandits won't be able to resist making themselves look bad-ass, even if it means alerting players that they're probably unfriendly.
  3. I paused the video at 1:05 to write this comment. I just wanted to say how cool that was, seeing everyone charge at once.

I don't often hold up newspawns....

The surprise axe-attack was unexpected and funny given the hostage-taker's original intentions and subsequent reaction. Be civil, people. I don't call you idiots for having to explain humor, so don't call people pathetic for playing the game.

    Sweet revenge on bandit squad.

That was fucking amazing. That has to be the most intense firefight I've ever witnessed. The sound of those bullets zipping past you. Holy shit.

    Death is final?

This topic put a smile on my face. I mean this in the most kind way.
  7. A quick google search reveals that ghillie suits are heavy, very warm and require lots of maintenance. Ghillie suits don't seem to be practical for every-day wear, and I'm sure when (if?) they're implemented the devs will get it right.

    Rolling Update Rev. 0.30.113953

That is why we are even playing the game now.

    Funny coincidence

Happened across this on Wikipedia and felt the need to share. :P

    Pending Update Rev. 0.29.113822

Most buildings are now enterable and the map has been reworked significantly. And your doubts are unfounded; you pay to play the alpha, you're getting the finished product. That's more than just a discount.

    When Two on-Edge People Meet

Damn. Combat logging is ridiculous, I hope it's fixed soon. Hopefully the other guy lost everything.

    The Justiciars

The Justiciars are a group dedicated to hunting and killing bandits. We're looking for any number of like-minded players who want to kill bandits in a (sort of) mature group. Our only rule is that we don't kill survivors while playing together, unless we have to. We don't have any official hierarchy, we operate by consensus. If you're able to communicate efficiently and understand the core mechanics of DayZ, we'd be glad to have you. Our ages are 18-20, but we accept anyone of any age as long as they're sufficiently mature. If you're interested in joining or have any questions, send a PM to Very Ape. Teamspeak information only given out via PM.

    Nelson.

Dear Nelson, Player encounters tend to be sudden, violent events throughout. I'm glad this was different. I feel as if though we didn't have enough time together, as our brief encounter ended tragically. You must know, it's this very tragedy that has strengthened my attachment to you. This vast, empty void that now separates us has brought us closer together. I wish I had more time to get to know you. Your kindness has gone unmatched by anyone I've met so far; we only knew each-other for mere minutes when you gave me that fire extinguisher, and your offer for food was most appreciated. You were, in fact, my only true friend in this game. I've yet to encounter anyone whom I've gotten along so well with in such short time. I'll always cherish that. I enjoyed telling stories of my travels, and it's most unfortunate that yours had been so uneventful up until then. I hope I've lived up to my promise and provided you with at least one interesting tale to tell in the great beyond. Rest in peace, wherever you may be, and know that I wish things had gone differently. If anything, I wish I'd at least seen your face. There was just no use taking off your helmet, though, as it was too damaged for me to use. Unfortunately, most of your gear had been damaged; I only managed to recover some food and a pair of gloves. But the fire extinguisher was in great condition, which is surprising given that I hit your helmet-clad head with it quite a few times. You didn't bleed out as quickly as I would have liked, but you saved us both a lot of time by not struggling. You ran, and I just had to chase you until eventually you just stopped. Shame about the helmet, though. That thing looked wicked. With love, Very Ape

    I need a friend

The Justiciars would be glad to have you!
  21. Seriously, guys. Gear can be taken by teammates and given back to you. Players in teams can be reckless with their lives because they know that's all they have to lose. People shouldn't value their gear, they should value their lives. Gear is a means of staying alive. I should still want to live if my character's been robbed of all of his belongings and finds himself buck naked in the middle of nowhere. I should, if the situation calls for it, want to beg the bandit who has me besieged to let me go if I surrender my weapons. No matter how hopeless the situation, in life most would still want to live, even if you found yourself despoiled of all your worldly possessions. You managed to find them in the first place, didn't you? The situation can't possibly be that hopeless. Valuing your life instead of your gear opens the door to a lot of interesting interactions; robberies being the most obvious. In life, most people would undoubtedly comply with someone who has him dead in his sights, where the only other option is death. In DayZ, where gear is all you have to live for, you think ''Fuck it'' and ignore the robber out of spite. It's ridiculous. It's not bribery at all, it's something that should have been in the game from the start. The point is to survive, not to hold onto gear. Skills don't have to be invasive or even that obvious; the mere knowledge of knowing that you're losing a little something is a lot. I don't understand how this is a worse solution than yours, which is just adding an inconvenience as punishment for death as opposed to rewarding survival. Hell, one of the greatest rewards in life is self-accomplishment. Additional aestethic features beyond your clothing and default features need to be implemented as well. Scars, beards, subtle differences in posture as Katana described all have their place in this game.
  22. Given that the discussion was about server owners having tools in general, his point is quite valid and you're being an ass.
  23. Tires and the like should only be carried in your hands! Given that every vehicle wreck will be salvageable, you would potential be able to find all the parts for any given vehicle within a kilometer radius, in a city.
