That was pretty funny. Brilliant intro.

Experimental Branch saw many changes in 0.44

They've already showcased hunting a boar. It may have been taken from Arma II, but perhaps it just wasn't worth redoing? Maybe it's in the works? It looked fine either way. -
Throwing Guide | How to Throw, What Can Be Thrown & How Far You Can Throw Items
Very Ape replied to aggathor's topic in Gallery
Because the driving in Arma II kinda sucks. It's not terrible, but DayZ can do better; and so the devs will make it happen. That's just fine by me, personally. I can imagine many situations where throwing will make player interaction better. You can throw vital items to your friend who is pinned down, toss food to someone whose building you've besieged but are trying to coax into being friendly, or surrender your weapons to someone who has besieged your building (by his demand) in a vain effort to spare your own life. -
Throwing Guide | How to Throw, What Can Be Thrown & How Far You Can Throw Items

Vehicles. It's important because of vehicles. It's all about the physics engine; throwing is like a by-product of that. That's why I think the devs time was well spent. -
I killed you in the Elektro church as you preached to your false idols, and then followed you miles down the coast while screaming your name.

You, you! I know you. I've searched for you, for so long. Sinphaltimus.

No, I have not. It is not the first time a Free man speaks those words.
-
That's because you've never had your freedom taken from you.

I am a fervent believer in the exclusivity of in-game comms as a way of enhancing fun and immersion in DayZ. I am not an arse.

Needless to say, it's always a bad idea to let someone get that close. Don't tolerate suspicious behaviour (taking an unreasonable amount of time to comply/respond, fidgeting around, inching closer). When I encounter someone, I always make it clear that I'm very easily startled.

I catch a Wall Glitcher red handed, I kill him (video)
Very Ape replied to G.Freeman's topic in Gallery
I'm at 1:00, but I can't help but stop to applaud the ''freebie.'' Seems like justice was served. I would have liked to see the rest of the firefight. -
You were shot and bled out. You probably survived long enough to move because alphers will alph.

Are they really too poor? The game is being developped in the Czech Republic that it's partially based on. I won't speak for the developpers, but a katana is just another melee weapon. I would imagine it being not too hard to implement (although not something to put in at this stage in development), and I don't see why the game shouldn't have as many items as humanly possible, as rare as they may be. It really gives life to the world, never really knowing for sure just what the hell you'll find. Hell, even the useless junk makes this game better. So far, everyone I play with always stops to marvel at the books they've found. They're always pleased to find one of their liking and will gladly carry it around.

Nothing wrong with an ultra-rare one, as the OP suggests. It's plausible, that in your hundreds of hours of roving the wasteland you meet someone who decided he'd take a katana (prop or otherwise real) as a weapon, as useless as it can be. Of course, they'd have to deteriorate quickly (but let them be super-effective, just 'cause!). You couldn't kill a hundred zombies with one. It'd be an item to be cherished, collected, worn for show. A katana would become quickly ruined if used as a regular zombie-killing weapon. A ruined katana could look like it's missing half the blade, caked with blood, mud and rust. Remember people, just because they implement an ultra-rare katana, doesn't mean it'll replace a more ''fitting'' item. They'll still make hoes, scythes, knives, tazers, kalashnikovs, helicopters, armor and cleavers for us to enjoy. With the new melee system, you guys know how good it'd look!

That was excellent.

That's a reasonable way of playing. You're really just putting the odds on your side in any close-range engagement. It's not what I'd do, and I'd kill anyone I saw doing that, but it's not a dumb way of playing.

By creative bandit I mean someone who doesn't just kill on sight, which is always very refreshing.

Pending Changelog: Experimental Branch: 0.42.116002
Very Ape replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
Did nobody see the awesome physics that are being worked on? They're bringing us a feature wherein we can toss mags or bandages to our pinned down or dying friends. -
It was a great ending, but we didn't skip to it, did we? The video can't have sucked that much. Ceremor was great. Gotta love creative bandits.

The ending was brilliant.

Do You Belive Players Who Shot Unarmed And Friendly Fresh Spawns Are Bad?
Very Ape replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
I let my gun be the judge of such as them. It's surprising how many friendly encounters you'll find yourself in if you just stay out of sight, and approach players on your own terms. Watch them from a distance, or wait for them outside of a building they're looting and make your presence known. If you mindlessly bolt around a city and find yourself face to face with someone, one of you is probably going to get shot. Playing on hardcore will also save you lots of pain. -
That was pretty cool!

Logging out near any ledge has always been inadvisable in this game. Are you unaware of the actual facts regarding the supposed defection, or was that an angry jape?

Concretely: what differs the pro from the noob?
Very Ape replied to MarchmelloMan's topic in New Player Discussion
People who move deliberately from cover to cover, plotting their course carefully, as opposed to those who sprint in a straight line towards their destination. -
A very unfortunate series of events led me to murder a fellow called Dave, and Dave's friend. This is a confession, and an apology. None of this had to happen; I could have saved us all. CAST VERY APE, murdered in Zelenogorsk on February the 22nd. PATRICK, murdered in Zelenogorsk on February the 22nd. DAVE, murdered in Zelenogorsk on February the 22nd. JOHN DOE, murdered in Zelenogorsk on February the 22nd. GUNMAN 1, pissing on our corpses. Very Ape and Patrick were taking a stroll Zelenogorsk. They ran into John Doe and were taken with fright. They raised their guns, fingers itching, but stayed their hands; robbery was on their minds, not murder. On the streets they were exposed, so they marched the survivor towards a nearby building, reassuring him that his life would be spared. Very Ape heard a burst of gunfire from an M4, and saw Patrick fall. He ran to cover, as did John Doe. A courtyard separated them, and the John's gun was still safely strapped to his back, but Very Ape found himself in quite an upsetting situation. John Doe claimed his innocence, but was undoubtedly one of them. He had to be. Very Ape raised his rifle and killed John Doe. He peeked around a building and saw more gunfire. Very Ape fell, thinking himself dead. He woke up, though. A bandage was applied, and Very Ape ran into a neighboring building. He waited. Patrick was still alive, but Very Ape didn't have the medical supplies Patrick would need in order to live. The gunman was still alive. Very Ape was barely alive. So Very Ape waited. Footsteps stirred him from his hard watch over the courtyard where Patrick and John Doe's bodies were. Very Ape turned around and watched the door to the room where he had barricaded himself. The door opened, and Very Ape fired. Meet Dave. Dave had a Mosin Nagant, not an M4. Dave was talking, pleading for his life. Very Ape felt a pang of guilt, and was determined to save Dave, if only to redeem himself from killing John Doe. Dave said he had epinephrine in his backpack, which Very Ape found. Very Ape then asked Dave if he would save Patrick, while he watched from the second floor with his rifle. That's when Dave signed his death warrant. ''Alright, yeah! Do you have epi-pen, too?'' Very Ape only had Dave's epi-pen. Very Ape only had Dave's saline bag. Very Ape only had Dave's bandage. Very Ape chambered one round into his pistol, and somberly told Dave not to worry; there was only one way he could help him. Dave died, John Doe died. When Very Ape rushed out to save Patrick, the gunman was nowhere to be seen. Very Ape saved Patrick's life. Very Ape and Patrick ran back towards the building and were blinded by the muzzle flash of an M4. Very Ape and Patrick would never rob, or murder, anyone ever again.
