For me, radios should be implemented for the atmosphere they provide, so it's not so much about communicating but scaring the hell out of you, giving you a faint glimmer of hope, etc.

The topic with the tractor got me thinking about using vehicles to build bases. And so, I went a step further, and imagined using vehicles to use vehicles to build bases. What if we could acquire, with much difficulty, tow trucks, to move broken vehicles into barriers. Imagine walling off an entire street (or even town) with piled up vehicles, leaving only an opening for your own vehicles. These vehicles, however, would be extremely difficult to acquire, repair and a pain in the ass to operate. Moving vehicles and piling them up would be painfully slow, and make a ton of noise, thus attracting zombies. With any luck, in standalone a windshield won't be an anti-zombie barrier, and teammates will be required to fend off the hordes of zeds. Furthermore, towing these broken vehicles off-road would be extremely slow, and towing a vehicle up a grassy slope would simply be impossible. Whether or not this is extremely authentic isn't that big of an issue-- it would serve a good purpose: keeping these blockades in urban environments. While having your fort completely walled around by actual cover (not provided by tank-traps and wire fencing) presents a distinct advantage, this advantage would be too much if taken out of the city. So by keeping the huge forts within the cities, it provides the following: 1) Great environment and mood for players wandering city streets, only to find a portion blocked off and patrolled by a group that has set up shop. 2) A disadvantage for the fortress defenders, as they still have to deal with zombies and are more visible. Obviously people would try to grief with this new feature, but they couldn't do as much damage as is already done with tank-traps, and it would provide obstacles to overcome. So what if a player (after investing hours, if not days, finding and repairing a tow-truck), decides to block off the entrance to the supermarket? Break the glass or find an another entrance. No entrance? Well, try to move it. Go prone underneath it. Wire fencing at the base of a wall of vehicles, with the occasional tank trap scattered about, would look awesome.

Most people don't bother with the replies, they read the OP. That's where the action is. These complaints were unnecessary, given the ammo box suggestion, which frankly is awesome. I can imagine ammo boxes being a good incentive for players to appoint someone responsible for munitions, and divide up their ammo between themselves. With any luck, ammo will be scarce in standalone and players will have to micro-manage their ammunition. :D

Aborting to get out of a bandit ambush? Aborting to avoid confrontation? The point of this feature is to get rid of that. It's cowardly. As for the rest; don't go on any adventures if you know you have to log out. Furthermore, if there's no threat and you're in a town... Leave! It takes only a few minutes, if there aren't any other players. Most of what you outlined is combat-logging. I bolded it for you.
-
I think your second suggestion could be easily countered by simply clicking the server, when they know they've combat-logged (right after logging out), and will wait the hour. I do understand the point though, and it's a good idea. However, I think a better punitive measure would be killing them. When you combat-log, it's because there's usually a huge risk of dying. By just blocking them from combat-logging altogether, the killers get their loot, and the other one dies.

Yes! Let's make us more traps, deadly traps.
-
If you can only stack a certain amount of items before it becomes another inventory slot, then sure.
-
That's a damn good idea! You should make your own topic, so this suggestion doesn't go unheard. It could be greatly expanded on too. :P

Well that's certainly good to know, thank you! It's good to have knowledgeable fans who don't only read the development blog like myself.

Let's have less hi-tech guns available
Very Ape replied to JimJam (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I want to live in a Chernarus where people rejoice at finding a double-barreled shotgun or a Winchester. Actually rejoice, not just pick it up because they're on the coast. Imagine feeling powerless all the fucking time, not just cause you don't have a gun. Imagine actually being "comfortable" using just a revolver! Prizing it, loving it. I want to live in a Chernarus where I can find a Lee Enfield and feel like the hand of an angry god. Weapons like the AS-50, however rare, make the game so... impersonal. -
I love the challenge-- I just wish I felt like I was accomplishing something, you know? I can always just kill myself and recollect my gear, especially when I'm with friends. Looking forward to the diseases in standalone, where my corpse will be infected.

If you ever need anything please don't Hesitate to ask someone else first

He obviously put some thought into this suggestion. The devil is in the details, on a forum where your suggestion is destroyed if you don't outline every possible scenario/possibility. >.>
-
He was specific, put some effort into the suggestion. Besides, it can't hurt. We want this implemented, we're gonna have to push for it. What do you think will stick; one suggestion lost in the archives, or a hundred of the same suggestion? :P
-
Cut his pants off. You have my beans, this is a great suggestion. Perhaps this would make being a medic equal to being a pilot-- you need skill, experience.
-
I love it! I'm all for making zombies into monsters, not just mindless, static corpses that punch you. I want to be prone near one and have it "perk up", so to speak, flair the air for my scent. I want to know it's looking for food. For me. This suggestion would work best if there's some sort of visual cue (ie, the zombie looking around and sniffing) to show they're looking for you.
-
I do love the idea of something that could be quickly applied to reduce blood loss, without bandaging. Let's face it, bandaging a gunshot wound in this game seems to be really quick. :P It'd be nice if that could take longer, but to balance it out have something that could be applied quickly (but only useful temporarily, as in, you can't go around for hours after like a bandage allows you to do)
-
What if you could include an option, while looking at a teammate, to look at ammunition from his own ammo pool. You could then assign him as a sort of "Ammo guy."

Stand Alone: Clan Pack; Steam Purchase Option

Keep in mind that the game is going to be pretty cheap already-- I wouldn't complain if this was implemented though! :D -
v1.7.5 zombies attack vehicles: choppers?
Very Ape replied to Dayzo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What a scandalous act on the part of those pesky devs, making landing a helicopter to refuel a risky thing! -
Bandits, after achieving a low humanity, gain a "Stormtrooper" perk, then! :P

Satellite Phones + Future DLC with NPC missions arranged via phone.
Very Ape replied to BigEdMan's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I posted a similar suggestion, but you get credit for inspiring me. The only problem I have with this suggestion is that it doesn't feel quite "gritty" enough for me. I guess I prefer the unpredictable nature of the radio. You just never know what you're going to hear, and god damn is the static-filled voice of a stranger creepy! Hard to explain-- but it's just personal preference talking here, it's a great idea nonetheless! -
Works cannot express how much I love this suggestion. By far one of my favorite suggestions to date. Adds a whole new dimension to getting prepared to go out on an expedition with your friends. Take my beans, sir, take them. You may have my virginity as well.

I'm hopeful that your character will be locked to a certain server.
