Hi guys ! Another day on Dayz ! Here is a simple suggestion related with the already existing features of the game. I guess that after having spent few weeks surviving in Tchernarus you probably already had to deal with dead bodies... Wether it is a zombie or a human body, your fresh victim consists in a threat or a treat depending on the conditions. I came up with this thought: Don't you think that It would be great if corpses were still moveable after death ? Carefull, first let's recapitulate all together: For the moment, you can move a wounded survivor or a wounded bandit. As soon as it dies, the command is deleted and you can no longer move the corpse. The aim of moving a body is to put it under cover so you can do your business without being shot at. (Imagine that you're trying to grab your friend who just got shot by the sniper in the hills. You can maybe heal him while staying protected by the wall that is just next to you.. ). When you hide a corpse, you erase some evidences of your presence in town. Zombies are not movable (and it shoulld not be changed, it works very well the way it is. Explained Later). And finally, a corpse left on purpose (example of a survivor body on the middle of the road), can be transformed into a special trap. It needs some skills and confidence. My answer to the above question would be YES ! I find it sad that a body can be moved but gets locked to the ground as soon as it dies. But is it possible to make the "movable" duration longer ? I am not sure because the death system is probably sharing the same one of Arma II and would maybe cause problems since a player is considered "dead" or "alive" by the game. It would in this case require a heavy script , with heavy risks of glitchs related to death.. (the worse glitches this game could have). Still, this feature would be awesome for the two following facts: - First; because there is no reason why a wounded could be moved while a dead body could not. - Secondly, if a dead body can be moved it means a lot of new possibilites f! If by any chance such characteristic could be implemented, it would need the following limitation: A simple consensus would consist in opening a only 5 minutes "moving time" after the death of the player. Thus , the body could be moved around freely within this short timelapse. This would first anhilate any risks of abusing the "body moving thing" otherwise it would make the things too easy if the bodies where constantly movable.. (and we all know that it is against the DayZ Survival principles to get the things to be too easy). Then, it would mainly only allow the killer to move his victim. (clearly 70 % of chances that only the killer will be around under the 5 minutes timeline) And Finally, It would give a suplementary chance for the players to know the deathdate of some corpses. For example if you just arrive in Elektro firestation two minutes after somebody got shot in the same firestation (may often occur if you are playing on 10 players+ servers) As you will approach the corpse, you will know it's freshness by the fact that you can still move it or. You can even make it harder by aggroing this action. Zombies would spot you easily as you grab the corpse. Considering that the smell may taunt them Depending on the way the script will be led and probably also depending on the game scripts, a permanent access to the "grab body" icon in the action menu can be issued. Once the five minutes pass, A scripted message could tell you "the body is too rotten for carrying" . Guess how it would fit with any moving tentatives above zombies. Hope that it wasn't too long. Tell me what do you think, And if you think that my proposition is crap. We will meet in Elektro, I'm giving-out some free weapons and ghillies

The day such feature will be possible, it would... There would... It's.... No words to describe it. All the present games would be thrown to the bin "Prehistorical". It's like inventing the wheel This day, humanity will be in big trouble (imagine something like Wow but 100 times wider and with 1000 X more player or roleplaying interactions.. It would be a blend of battlefield, warcraft and Grand theft all together...) By the way I'm still astonished by the fact that nobody, no government (game developers) is working or trying to design something of that width. LETHAL, selling such game would simply be "drug dealing". Done, that was a small "weeder from Cal-poli california" reflexion. .

>>>>>> http://images1.fanpo...03-1024-768.jpg <<<<<< (Picture from Alfred Hitcock's Birds Movie) Hi guys, As always I'm happy to glance over the forums to see all the interesting news&suggestions for the Standalone. No, no, I'm not proposing you any idea related with zombie birds which would attack you in hordes nor any other feather-equiped threat. It is a simple suggestion related with the already existing game's aesthetics. Birds are already present in DayZ as from Arma2. They stand here as a simple visual effect and are probably added to the player as 2D animations. The reason why I'm proposing to add more birds in Dayz is simple: During my gaming experience of DayZ I met birds several times. And my feeling is that they strongly contribute to the DayZ atmosphere especially for the black bird model which look like a crow. Here is a description for the scenario: you enter Elektro by a cold autumn morning, its freezing and the city sounds perfectly silent. As you pass the fire station, all the birds fly away from the church top. By the sound, you know these are ravens. I suggest we add more of these for the standalone and with player interaction. They would stand on roofs. (roaming by groups of ten to thirty on rooftops) Their fly away would be triggered by two presences: Player presence and gunshots. Any player approaching the birds in a distance of 20 or 30 meters, will make the birds fly away. Or any gunshot from less than 300 meters would make them fly as well. The basic Ideas are: that they remain visible by all player and that they come back to their "watchtower" position after 15 minutes of silence. The modelling will not be performance-consuming as these birds will always remain at a minimum 20 meters distance from players. In consequence the model can be very poor as soon as it has the shape and it moves like a crow. Where is the link with Alfred Hitchcock's movie ? Here it is, as they couldn't add real birds to the movie itself, especially for some bird attack scenes , they had the idea of adding birds on post-processing by only using their 2D shadow and pasting them over the real scene. The result was a success as it looked fully realistic, and far way better than if they had have used fake birds or even real ones (for taming reasons). Because these birds are dark, the light of sky doesn't allow the eye to see any strong detail anyways. Moreover, this feature gives one realistic indication of survivor presence in the game environment. I'll be happy to see constructive stuff over here Tell me what you think. http://4.bp.blogspot...00/TheBirds.JPG

KOBRA KOBRA KOBRA KOBRA KOBRA KOBRA KOBRA For moving situations/surprise kills or even when hurt. I don't like using it but I always survived when I had it. then: AKM If you miss the torso you will always manage to break a bone. + 1 point for the intimidating sound. "Bloum" - 'Silence' then a death message apears on the screen.

I think this way of building suggestion is'nt bad. Even if it may sound invasive... Here, for a small thing such as bird improvement. The discussion with players allows us to lighten up the very small details of the thing. Then we are more focused.

How do I improve my situational awareness?
Drakan replied to Blippy's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Thats exactly why I quitted playing as a Sniper around towns. I think that your issue comes first from desync problems. I mean by this that although you're aware about your surroundings, you'll have many situations in which a guy will be sprinting towards you while you'll still be listening to the "charcoal flushing on a rusty iron deck in Solnichny factory" soundloop. My only solution to this is to stick to regional servers (France and Germany only for me). And it id not a warranty of good sync (depends on many factors). Then off course, hoping and ch...ting may be the other ingredients for this explosive mix. I figured out that some LOTS of guys really put all their energy on this (revenge hoping). And surprisingly most of the time they are not playing alone but in teams (I still don't understand this). I know this feeling and its very embarassing especially if you have a very good sniper spot and have spotted the guy ages before he could even see your shadow. (very difficult / uncomfortable and narrow angle for shooting. (the place where you need to wait days before dinner) -
Vultures great. But I would rather see them in the north part of the map (as for less populated) because I think that they fly in the areas which are the less crowded by humans and vegetation (empty fields and high mountains rather than over forest and towns so they can spot their targets and hunt easily) Though, the modelling wouldn't be as simple as the raven's one... (all black versus a real texture).

----------------------------------------- Avoid shooting zombies at all costs ----------------------------------------- then ----------------------------------------- Only walk, never run ----------------------------------------- aaaaaand ----------------------------------------- Bag of peanuts and ships (Patience) ----------------------------------------- ^^volume set to maximum. Any abnormal sound and I react like a submarine listener. then the stay and listen is the best one you can get : )

How The 1.7.7 Update Completely Changes Banditry
Drakan replied to carbine781 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Please, there are respectable bandits. -
+ 1 especially for some actions (vaulting / lying on the ground) must be faster / smoother.

I Don't really disagree with this proposition but its true that deagles or any other over powerfull guns would add trouble to the gameplay. Still, I'd like to see an old powerfull revolver such as this one : The name would be "collection pistol". And would have an only 4 bullets roller. Even if it doesn't fit to DayZ (post soviet) it would be original and fair enough to implement it. Afterall, there are Colt and BAF weapons in DayZ (revolver - M4's and m16's). BTW I'm thinking about a suggestion about adding three "collection weapons" Please tell me what do you think about this. The main feature would be that their ammunition would be craftable. Each of them would be really powerfull but with a very average precision. It would compose in: - a Carabine (something vintage looking like the Winchester. "collection rifle" - a vintage revolver/pistol "collection pistol" - a vintage hunting gun with pellets "collection shotgun" and "collection shotgun with short cannon" (Mad Max Styyyyle). In order to craft the ammunition you need Scrap lead and gunpowder. If you have any of these 3 types of "collection guns" you will only need to carry the scrap lead and gunpowder in order to create the ammunition. Crafting would apear in action menu as "Prepare bullet crafting" then after few seconds being able to "craft bullets/pellets X"number" with Scrap Lead" You would only need to be by a fire or chemny. The main advantage of this collection weapon system is that it allows to make lots of different weapon models with the same characteristics. Example the Collection Rifle would have 3 or 4 different models or sounds but with nearly or totally the same "Cfg"

Yeah, I guess it makes sense since players travel alot in landscapes. Anyway birds often eat crop and maggots on open lands. Alright ! I'll add these to the list

I think we have some poets over here ; )

[SA] Usable Indoor Fireplaces
Drakan replied to florian.de.los.santos@googlemail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This is great. People keep using red flares in DayZ. So I don't see any problem with lighting up a chimney in a house. Anyway even if it was only for pure aesthetic reasons, I would say YES to this. -
Okay ! I'll add a list in the TOPIC post of all these details discussed in here. -the timer before return (roof tops and other "watch tower positions") - one or two ravens eating from dead (survivor) bodies near the roads. - The sneaking and no zombie variable and other sound triggerers. - birds also roaming in open fields - body timer before raven arrival (10-15 minutes and eventually fly sound importance modified) - Wether or not running zombies should trigger the birds. - ... Nothing more to be added ? For the drunken crow shooting game I don't think it can be realisable yet. Nor for the group of ravens flying in circles in the sky each time there's a dead body. (aesthetics and gameplay issues). .
-
I assume they would only react to Survivor activity only (not flying off when a zombie goes by) It may sound unrealistic but it suits the best. For the problematic of triggering the roof birds. I guess that a good sneak should'nt launch them as well. Though, their reactions should be limited to sound. As well as for Zeds. I often agro in towns while walking slowly (fully , not ducking) just because a zombie spots me 50 or 80 meters away. This shouldn't occur neither with birds nor zombies. A slow walk should make them think its probably an infected. (By the way I figured out that the safest way of travelling and crossing cities is by walking slowly, and for the moment I surprisingly still didn't get killed because of this.) Moreover when you walk slowly you tend to always see the different survivors crossing in front of you because they travel faster and louder. They don't even spot you on sight Off course, you should take into consideration "open to sniper areas" and concrete walls that will blend with the survivor skin colours.

I even Imagine this: three buddies, early morning. You decide to visit Devil's castle. After climbing and visiting. You come back by bike.
-
THIS IS SO COOL ! But I would rather see it with the modern and compact version: I often see guys carrying these in France while on the subway. ------> IMAGE <------ I think its one of the best items we could add to the new inventory of DayZ. Its Practical, its thriving and its original enough. Though it hasn't anything unrealistic nor too advantageous for the player who will use it. I guess the handling would be very bad (even worse than the original bike's handling) over-sensible on steering and dangerous as hell. The compact version (in the picture) would allow to carry with a bag (off course, after filling at least 10 back slots.
-
I totally agree with the sneaking thing, afterall Some foxes, cats and other animals still success at catching birds. However it should have limits. In the same way that when you agro a zombie because you're standing on his foot (although you are sneaking and/or not moving).
-
You got the idea. As I said, they don't necessarly have to fly in circles over bodies. That would maybe be of a too heavy effect on gameplay. The thing of giving more or less presence to ravens depending on the presence of bodies or on the activity of gun-shootings and other sounds Is a perfect compromise. Not to forget the ones that will be snacking over animals and survivor bodies : Or at least in a realistic way. You know, theres always one on the body and two other ones on the ground looking for any incoming danger. When something approaches, they fly away then come back when its secure. .

^^ bump for reading :)

Yup, You'll be able to sometimes anticipate. You see birds launching 400 meters ahead, then while using your binoculars you will sometimes spot the guy / zombies running in this village or the field close to the bird launch.
