Are Cherno and Elektro staying for the standalone? i hope not!
elf cakes replied to elf cakes's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
how on earth do you track someone? do you look for used bean tins on the ground everywhere? if your answer is yes, you're either a liar or have WAY too much free time on your hands. you can't track someone in dayZ, it just doesnt happen. unless they're moronic enough to shoot a flare up in the air every five minutes. also, for the past THREE days? i call the supremest of bullshit sir. anyway back to topic please :P -

i've never even heard of any fighting going on in berezino, but yeah that's what i mean about needing an incentive to go north. at the moment there really isn't one apart from the two barracks at NW and the Tents at Stary. i think if they simply moved elektro and cherno inland by about 2-3km then it would feel much more like a survival game, because you wouldn't just be running straight for cherno and elektro to get fast gear, you'd have to make your way to the cities and pass by the villages on the way to get small loot, just for survival. that would be awesome haha :D -

i like the zombies being more threatening, but the fact that you can just walk into a place (or even spawn there) in under five minutes doesnt really give any incentive to ever leave cherno or elektro. i don't mean they should take out big towns altogether, but just don't have them at the coast. that's the point i failed at putting across in the op :P -
imbalanced isn't the word to use here, i'd say it would just be absolutely no fun unless the person handcuffing you was creative in the ways that they did it. for example, they could handcuff you, and put the key in the middle of cherno or something, then you'd have to run in and get it. there are many possibilities of fun here but there are also game breaking possibilities. like if someone handcuffed you and left you in the middle of nowhere. that would suck ass, but it would still bring varied experiences. after giving it some thought, i for one would definitely love to see handcuffs in the game.

found this video if anyone is still looking for the illusive thing, shows some good gameplay of it being used. and i'll be the first to say that it looks like shit haha. i thought he'd be holding it in one hand, not holding it really retatrdedly like the hatchet. WELL MIFFED I AM

Fed up of fighting in Cherno and Elecktro

taviana is an excellent map for finding people all over. go to a busy taviana server and you are bound to have some fun -
if i see a hero, i'm still hasty because of the amount of bugs like bandits appearing as heroes and stuff like that. if they fixed it so i could be certain that the person is actually a die hard hero, i'd trust them 100%, because you gotta work really hard to be a hero in this game lel

anytime! glad to be of help :)

the lag spikes you experience when entering cherno are very common, and are caused by the fact that when you enter cherno your client causes lots of zombies to be spawned at once. the lag spike is not your pc, it is the stress that dayZ puts on your internet connection when entering towns/cities. this will not happen in the standalone however as all zombie spawning will be serverside. for now you'll just have to make do i'm afraid :)

they could just not eat and die of that but it's a cool ass idea :P

Don't you wish there was a western map?
elf cakes replied to CaptGentry's topic in New Player Discussion
haha i thought you meant like a spaghetti western map, which would be so fucking good! -
New To ARMA and DayZ today. Not very welcoming.
elf cakes replied to TxJBxT's topic in New Player Discussion
well, you joined the game at a bad time. it seems at least 90% of players just shoot on sight now compared to when dayZ first came out. there are friendly people out there, but they are very rare. i'll explain how the chat system works, i got confused with it the first time around. there are several different types of chat. 'side chat' is server-wide, and 99% of servers have ban warnings for using your mic in the side chat. then you have direct chat. this is what you want to use when talking to a player near you. it only talks to players within about 50 metres of you. then there's vehicle chat, with this one only people that are in the same vehicle as you can hear you. there's also a global chat in arma 2 but you will very rarely see that in dayZ. you swap the chat you are currently talking into using the '.' or ','. (i think those are the defaults) good luck, and hopefully your experience wasn't bad enough to put you off the game completely! sometimes it can be a real pile of shit, and you constantly get shat on by other players, but other times it can be the most fun you'll ever have in a videogame. -
Winning fights where you have big disadvantages.
elf cakes replied to khaenz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I was with one friend, we had a pretty big jeep, he had a winchester with 13 shots, and i had no weapons at all. we came up against a gang which had a chopper, 2 cars and about 6 players overall. we had already had some skirmishes in the past, so we knew they weren't gonna let us go without a fight! i told my friend to jump out of the car when we were approaching, and i drove headfirst at them. i smashed the uaz they had, and managed to break some legs in the process. by this point the jeep i was driving had taken heavy damage, but the old girl held up. my friend managed to kill the guys i had knocked down, and then there were only 3 left. once again i drove headfirst at their car and managed to destroy it. all the while my jeep was still holding up! then the chopper (which had been shooting at us the whole fight) flew down really low, and killed my friend. i saw a small ramp in the ground, and knew it was my only chance. i drove the jeep straight up the small ramp, getting me just enough air to smash into the chopper, and blow it into a million pieces. my car had blown up in the explosion, killing me, and the guys in the chopper were out for the count. at the end of the battle, no one was left standing! -
i like this idea, like players working together for a mutual gain when they would normally be trying to kill each other! sounds great!

hmm i don't think so, dayZ really crunches on your cpu, and at the moment even some extremely high-end pc's have really bad fps's. wait for the standalone, then you'll probably be able to run it on a good fps. you'll have to change some settings though. :) but i'm not a complete expert, so don't take that as complete fact.

dang! when did zombies get so tough? those ones took like 6 stanag rounds to drop!

what rig are you running that on? your frame rate is crazy good -
words cannot express my hatred for your feeling of superiority and brown-nosing. anyway, back to topic, for me i think there should at least be some kind of recognition that there hasn't been any news. a 'sorry for no news, we've been very busy' would have been fine.

Bring back the debug menu! or at least another way to find out my humanity!
elf cakes posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
howdy, i'm trying to become a hero, and recently i got a bit frustrated because now that the debug menu is gone, i can't see what my humanity is. i want to know how close i am to becoming a bandit, or a survivor or hero. i really don't understand why they got rid of this element, i know that they got rid of the blood meter in the debug to add realism, but why the humanity aswell? :( also please accept my apology if there actually is a way to find out your humanity now. and please tell me what it is. :P cheers
