  1. Side Chat, people actually playing at night using flares/lights, winchesters/lee enfields being the most common, no as50s everywhere... That was a much funner game. I can see where people are coming from when they say that Sidechat has no place in a survival game, and really I would agree, if the rest of the game lived up to that survival theme. I'm looking forward to standalone and I really hope it brings back that feel of the game before it really blew up.

    Slow Boat

So I found a boat and put a new engine in, refueled it and it still only goes 10km/h. It's some kind of covered motorboat. Any idea what else i can try to get it moving? Edit: The boat is called a Small Boat
  3. I agree. DayZ in it's current state is not a zombie survival game. The only threat is other players. Players should be a threat of course, but so should the zombies, the elements and your own body. I agree with you that food is incredibly easy to come by, but I think the biggest problem is that the zombies are not a threat. Ideally even with the current amount of food/drink/supplies in the game, it should be difficult and dangerous to go into and out of a zombie infested city. But right now all you have to do is sprint in, go into a building and loot it and sprint out the back door. You will lose most of the zombies chasing you, but even if you don't there is no possible way for them to catch you. There needs to be an endurance system so you can get tired from sprinting. If you screw up sneaking into a town and have a horde of zombies pouring down on you, you wouldnt be able to run for ever. You might be able to run for a bit and then HAVE to fight your way out instead of just sprinting untill you are in the clear. You are right about the overabundance of food and drink. Not once have I ever been in a situation where I am starving to death. So I have never needed to kill another player for his food, which really is what banditry should be all about: killing for supplies to survive. Right now I can sprint through town, grab all the food and drink I need, get a decent weapon and I am set. At this point killing is simply because there isn't much else to do, im not preoccupied simply trying to survive. I believe that the difficulty should not just be due to other players, but due to trying to find the necessary supplies to stay alive. Bandits would be that much more dangerous and actually have a purpose in what they are doing. And hopefully more people would work together to survive.
  4. I agree there needs to be some kind of encumbrance/weight/weapon size system. The anti-materiel rifles should impact your mobility and the amount you can carry. They also should not be able to be put in backpacks. Perhaps carrying the huge rifles should lower your movement speed. This would also tie into the need for an endurance system. No more sprinting endlessly across the map or running from zombies that can never possibly catch you. Carrying the heavier weapons would also tired you out faster. Running around through the woods with weapons as big as the AS50 and M107 should have some kind of impact, it should not be on par with running around with Lee Enfield.
  5. Ya? They make it too easy to kill players. Pistols, shotguns and hunting rifles kill players too. I have nothing against bandits. But the Anti-Material rifles are a joke, I know because I've had them a few times. They don't fit the setting of a zombie appocalypse (then again at this point there is no zombie-survival aspect to the game). The fact tons of people have them due to duping doesn't help either. I don't think they have any place in the game. But if for some reason they have to stay there needs to be some kind of encumbrance system added. A dude carrying these beasts around shouldn't keep up with someone carrying a rifle. You should not be able to put it in a backpack.
  6. These weapons really dont mesh with the feel of a zombie survival game and simlpy exist (in huge numbers due to duping) for killing players. I've looted a few from snipers. There is no skill involved in it. And in a survival situation who would be running around with one of these instead of an ak or a hunting rifle.

    Should NVGs be more common?

They should be much rarer. Then again with the amount of duping going on its hard to tell how rare they actually are when you can find them in every camp you find. Earlier on people actually played at night and used flares and chemlights to get around. It was a lot of fun slinking into Cherno at night (with 20+ players in the server too) and sticking to the shadows and creeping up on areas lit up by flares. Or hiding in a building in the pitch black and all of a sudden having a flare light up. Now it just seems to be NVGs and AS50s. Flares + Makarovs/Lee Enfields/Winchesters was infinitely funner than all of the high tech military crap.
  8. I'd pay up to a full game price. However the way servers word would have to be seriously revamped. As cool as the idea that my location and equiment transfer from server to server is, it is also one of the most negative aspects of the game for me. I would pay for a reliable server where your weapons and location save on that server only. No ghosting, duping would have to be fixed as well. Would have to be some kind of official server that I can count on always being there, instead of getting taken down after a month.
  9. Until duping has been dealt with I think all of the high grade weaponry has to go. At the very least the anti-materiel rifles. If they were incredibly rare I could tolerate keeping them. But as it is there are camps full of them on most servers I've been to. I still think the game could do with a hell of a lot less military equipment and a lot more civilian hunting weapons with the odd AK here and there.
  10. On a side note, anyone know how to take screens in DayZ? Couldn't find a key and print screen takes screens of the desktop. So while I was running around Electro I noticed that there was someone out there with an M107. I ran north to the woods, and he managed to miss 6-8 times. So I headed east past the dam and up into the hill over the power plant. Sure enough hes still there so I kill him and take his m107, GPS, NVGs, Coyote pack, Bizon etc.. Then I notice just a little ways up the hill is a UAZ (With NVGs, GPS, M107 + ammo and Mk48+ammo). I assume its his and jump in and start to take off when I get hit by a Mk48. Lucky for me the guy was slow and I got away. As soon as I hit the road the server times out. I D/C, reconnect when its back up and am beside the UAZ. So I jump in again. Again I get to the road and the server restarts. This happens 4 times. The 5th time I get far enough away, I jump out and save. Server goes down again not long after that. Well tough luck friendo. The UAZ saved this time. No screens to prove anything, as I said it kept taking screens of my desktop. But a heads up, someone likes sniping noobs in electro and can't handle when the tables turn on him.
  11. I really think that the weaponry available in the game should be scaled back. Especially the high-end military weapons and equipment. Before you accuse me of not being tough enough or whining about bandits, this is coming from me having NVGs, GPS, Rangefinder, and an AS50. With this equipment the game gets simply too easy. In fact it really takes a lot of the fun out of it. The range and zeroing on the AS50 especially make it serious overkill.I had a much funner time earlier on when I and nearly every other person I ran into had a winchester, lee enfield, makarov or m1911. Not only that but many of the military weapons are incredibly easy to come by. (I admit this is also influenced by the fact that I live in Canada where the weapons you would find in peoples houses are meant for hunting). It could also be that duping has led to the servers being flooded with NVGs and high end weapons. But what I would love to see in the future is the VAST majority of weapons that you find be shotguns or hunting rifles. With AKs and NATO weapons would be much rarer then they are and some of the the higher end weapons like the AS50 removed entirely. I think it would be much more realistic for survivors to be roaming the woods with a shotgun or a bolt action rifle than with all this military weaponry that seems to be everywhere.
  12. I can't seem to join servers with the Beta patch. It says my version is 1.60 and the server version is 1.60.9etc. I have a preset created with DayZ and the beta box checked, so it contains both DayZ and the beta patch. When I launch that preset and check expansions BETA is listed. Anyone else having issues or know how to work this out?

How to find out where you are without map?

For a me a compass is about a million times more useful than the ingame map. Since you are already using a map out of the game find things like roads, powerlines, towns, lakes, forests etc. Then compare to the map. You are at a T intersection? Okay how close are you to the woods, what direction was the last fork in the road you passed going? Learn to read the signs, you don't need to know all that much about Cyrillic. A few pointers c = English S, p = English R, r = english G. So Черногорск is Chernogorsk. Learning even only a few of the letters to help you figure out what a sign is saying is a great way to find your way around untill you learn the map. Plus you actually learn something.

    Stuff in tents is gone

I have found that when I first place a tent, anything that I place in it dissapears after the first server reset. From then on everything saves as normal. Happens every time.

    Seattle Server Info/Discussion

Will the servers be updated to 1.7.1.1 and 1.60.93825? Or will they be staying at 1.7.0 and 1.60.93616?

    Kicked from EVERY game

The six updater files are borked. Download them and install manually from http://cdn.armafiles.info/ I'm not getting kicked anymore and can still launch my preset from six.
  17. I really wonder about the people who can't tell the difference between finding an out of the way hiding spot, and walking past the edge of the map where no trees/buildings spawn anymore. I'm all for an invisible wall or something. You my say that's not realistic, but neither is an abrupt end of the map followed by a void.
  18. I don't think it's really an exploit as it's simple to just keep walking from the edge of the map, so your not glitching or anything to get out there. Doesn't mean that it isn't total cheese.

    Seattle Server Info/Discussion

Any idea what was going on in Seattle 2 last night? Found and repaired a boat, drove it down the coast. Me and my buddy got DCed when we rejoined, boat wasnt there and maybe 30s to a minute later every single person in the server died.

    Slow Boat

Ha. Well I found in in the very NE part of the map in that inlet. It was beached and took a bit of moving to get fully into the water. Repairing the engine made it look prettier but no increase in speed. I drove that thing all the way down to Solnichny (was heading for that island in the SE). Stop to get gas near Solnichny, get DCed. Come back in and my lovely boat is gone (this was within seconds, so no one stole it) then 30 seconds later every single person in the server died. Hoorah.

DayZ has become Deathmatch / Team Deathmatch

I liked the bandit system. It needed work, but should have been kept. But finding punishments or game mechanics to deter bandits isn't the way to solve the deathmatch problem. I like to work together, for a long time I wouldn't attack other players and prefered to hide in the woods and raid remote towns. I was gathering a good supply of tools/food/ammo. Then my tent didn't save. It's alpha, I'll get over it. I think one problem is that it is very hard to get a persistent base going. Tents need to be able to be placed more easily, and more fortifications need to be built. Sandbags, wooden barricades etc. It should also take work to get these bases built. So you would need to work together with other people to gather the materials and to maintain your supplies. I would hope being able to build communities would help with cooperation. I might just be naive. I would prefer to have a large portion of the players working together, or at least leaving each other be with a small handful of bandits. Also once you die a few times you realize how easy it is to gather supplies again. Loot is much too common I think. There is no "should I take the magazine or the beans" or having to beg/kill someone for food because it is all so easy to find. I think this really adds to the deathmatch feel. I can just kill that guy for shits and giggles and who cares if him or his buddies get me? I'll just be able to gather my supplies again easily. Ammo and food should be much scarcer, which would lead to people working together AND bandits actually killing out of necessity instead of just because. After this past update I've been finding STANAG/Glock/Makarov/.45 ammo everywhere, which really doesnt help.

    [1.7.2] DayZ loot cheat sheet

I'd like to know too. I've been looking for fence kits in factories, haven't seen a single one. I have seen 3+ hatchets in the same building, hunting knives all over, smoke grenades, glock ammo, AKM ammo, STANAG mags, canteens and flares all over them though. That and car parts is all I seem to be finding in industrial buildings now.

    DayZ Build 1.6.0 Rolling Update

Were the loot spawns changed? If I got into that factory north of Dolina I am finding much different stuff than before the update. Still have the car parts, but havent seen a single fence kit. Instead there is TONS of hatchets, piles containing hunting knives/smoke grenades, makarov ammo, STANAG mags, glock mags and chemlights. Maybe I never noticed it, but before the update I never saw any of that ammo, knives or grenades. Maybe occasionally food and drink. Not only that is seems like ammo is spawning a lot more all over the place.

    Wire Fencing.

Well the new update says that wire fencing got a new model, has anyone actually seen any wire fencing? I used to find tons of it in factories, but I haven't see any today. In fact I'm finding STANAG mags, knives, AKM mags etc. all over the factories, but no wire. Anyone have any luck finding any?

    DayZ Build 1.6.0 Rolling Update

Has anyone seen any wire fencing to pick up? I haven't been able to find any. And in the warehouses/factories where I usually find it I am finding piles of hunting knives/glock/stanag ammo.
