    Being a nice guy...

I don't approach the situation. I avoid people. I don't shoot on sight unless they see me, because that's simply a stupid way to go about things. If they see me, I shoot on sight because not doing so is a great way of getting yourself killed. I've learned from experience.

    Being a nice guy...

Being nice is probably the first fatal flaw in DayZ. Right next to letting a zombie chew on your leg.

    What? How? Seriously? FML

It's possible that they were hacking, but far more likely that they just logged in and found you. Don't spend much time in an airfield. It's a great way to die and waste five hours of your life.

    I'm having a difficult time

Manuevering around zombies is the easiest thing in the game to do, right after pressing the log-in button. You can run infinitely without them ever catching you, so there's never an excuse to get killed by them, in my honest opinion. Once you learn how their mechanics work, and how to lose them, the game gets a lot simpler. The zombies in this game are child's play, and a lot of people know it.

How exactly is this game fun?

If you like large-scale coorperation, then DayZ is not the game you're looking for. Take it or leave it.

How exactly is this game fun?

Nah, there's not really a goal in DayZ. That's why it's so beautiful. You can do whatever you want, whenever you want, wherever you want. I imagine it'll get quite a bit better once the standalone comes out. ArmA simply is not a game that's able to sustain what DayZ requires.

Good places to build a base

It depends on how long you want your camp to last. (Depending on server populations, of course.) Less than a day: Around any of the airfields. 1-3 days: Bordering popular towns; usually ones with supermarkets. 4-7 days: Hidden on the tops of mountains surrounding popular areas like the NWAF, Pustoshka, Vybor, etc. 7+ days: Take a good look at the map, pick a place that you would never, ever feel inclined to go, and slap a tent there. The farther it is from loot, the less likely it's going to be found. Of course, these are just very rough estimates, and they all go proportionally to the amount of people that play on the server. It's all risk versus reward.

How exactly is this game fun?

I like this game because it's an intense player versus player game with a zombie twist thrown in. Why do you like ArmA? I mean, this game is basically ArmA with zombies, so I'm not sure you're even enjoying the previous game if you're having trouble having fun in this one.

    Zombies are too Powerful

I've never died due to zombies. You can outrun them for as long as your food and water lasts, and they do very, very little damage when they do manage to hit you. You were probably on a private server with insanely modified zombie settings or something. I've seen a few around.

Should i make a base, or not?

Entirely up to you. It depends on your play style. Personally, I prefer setting up a camp because I am not a fan of having to completely restart every time some hacking troll decides to destroy me. But, some people are into that.

How to 'force' new items to respawn?

If it isn't done in this manner, then once an area is drained of resources, it will permanently stay that way. And that won't work. The map isn't big enough for that to work.
  12. Why can't we have both? Barricaded houses and underground bases, that is.

My DayZ Adventure for the day.

If the pack you were currently using had twenty slots, then that means that you dropped your ALICE pack for another ALICE pack. ALICE packs have twenty slots.

Opening a can of beans without a can opener is an exploit of reality and you should feel ashamed of yourself!

How do I Escape the Zombies?

Breaking line of sight is really easy. Once line of sight is broken, the zombie will go to where they last saw you. Once there, they will bumble around mindlessly as they normally do, unless something else catches their attention. Once line of sight is broken, you want to immediately crouch run and try to break line of sight with the previous place you broke their LoS, just in case they walk in your direction. Keep in mind that noise will re-engage them as well. Zombies are extremely easy to lose. It's just a matter of getting the hang of their mechanics.

How to 'force' new items to respawn?

And, above all, I don't think anyone should try and equate this to reality. The military simulator part of the game adds about as much reality as it can, but you have to understand that this is still a GAME. Is loot cycling unrealistic? Sure. Is using morphine to fix a broken leg unrealistic? Laughably. Is finding a new crashed helicopter in a random field every day unrealistic? Yep. Is the ability to pry open a can of pasta with your fingernails unrealistic? Is the ability to repair a car without any repair tools unrealistic? Is the inability to drink from a pond without a water bottle unrealistic? Yep. Yep. Yep. It doesn't matter if it's realistic or not. It's realistic to the point where any further realism makes certain mechanics impractical. It's just a game, folks. There's no sense of trying to take some flimsy moral high-ground because someone plays differently than you.

How to 'force' new items to respawn?

If the mechanic had been intended to allow people to simply do away with conditions like broken legs or sickness whenever they felt too lazy to go do it the appropriate way, why would those conditions even be in the game? Furthermore, why would the items needed to remove those conditions be so rare? (Sure, morphine isn't rare if you visit a hospital, but good luck making it to a hospital with a broken leg.) The loot cycling mechanic, however, I believe is being used in its intended form. Was it not intended to spawn loot when all other loot had been removed? Edit: Actually, to tack on to my first point, the respawn button was almost certainly intended to be used as an anti-bug mechanic, such as getting stuck inside of a wall, or glitched into the floor. Used similarly as an 'unstuck' button is used in most games. Not to be used as a 'get out of jail free card' whenever you get unlucky with a broken leg.

How to 'force' new items to respawn?

I'll go with... no. I'm not telling you to re-write anything. I'm telling you why this 'exploit' is only an 'exploit' in the lightest context. It's simply not comparable to a cheat. You're the one that keeps avoiding answering my questions and trying to re-direct the argument. It's not unfair, selfish, unethical, or any other negative definition of the word exploit. Until you provide an example of any of those things, it will remain that way. It IS however; As I mentioned. Fair enough. However, that is still an exploitation of a game mechanic in an unintended manner, nonetheless. If you've ever done that, you're a hypocrite.

How to 'force' new items to respawn?

I like how you completely danced around my point. How about YOU go back and explain how loot cycling is unjust, unethical, mean, unfair, or selfish. Then, when you manage to do that, you can go on explaining how loot cycling can be used in that context. Or, you can keep floundering this argument like a retarded guppie in a sink. Oh, and for the record, using the respawn button to position yourself closer to your intended goal IS an exploit. By your very own definition it's a game mechanic being used in an unintended manner. Jackass.

So how these +2500 cheaters got busted?

    Wow. What retards.

How to 'force' new items to respawn?

Loot cycling works for the people who don't move across the entire map looking for someone to shoot. As it stands, big settlements are very far apart. Why would I waste my time on a hour and a half trip heading to the next supermarket, when I can easily get double the loot by just cycling the supermarket I'm near, in half the time? And that's just residential loot. Am I going to take one sweep through the NEAF and then go on the two hour there-and-back journey to the NWAF because I couldn't find the exact ammo I needed? Shit no. I'm going to sit tight, and loot cycle. Getting ANY loot is dangerous. Loot cycling is waaaaay more risky than moving on to the next point. If a guy sits in the same supermarket for four hours, he's probably going to run into another person. It's called risk versus reward. And hell, that's completely disregarding the argument about loot that doesn't even spawn. I'm not about to make a half-hour journey across a zombie-infested wasteland in the hopes that the loot actually decides to spawn wherever I'm headed. If you still want to consider it unethical or whatever, that's okay. I understand your viewpoint on that. You're entitled to your own opinion, and you certainly aren't being forced to do it. However, I DO expect you to look upon things like Helicopter Crash Site farming with the exact same perspective. Don't be a hypocrite, now.

    Anything New?

Aside from new maps and crap, not sure that I've seen too many huuuuge updates. From what I understand, Rocket is balls deep in the standalone development.

How to 'force' new items to respawn?

ex·ploit    [ek-sploit, ik-sploit] noun - a striking or notable deed; feat; spirited or heroic act: the exploitsof Alexander the Great. - to employ to the greatest possible advantage - to make productive use of - use something for benefit: to use or develop something in order to gain a benefit We could literally cherry-pick definitions from Google all day. All we would accomplish is demonstrating that a definition is entirely subjective, and based on context and perspective. In this context, unless you can demonstrate how loot cycling is 'unjust', 'unethical', 'unfair', 'mean', or 'selfish', then I think we can go ahead and roll with the actual definitions that I provided.

Please stop putting tents in buildings...

Yeah. If people use a tent in lieu of barbed wire, they're an idiot. A toolbox is less common than a hatchet.

How to 'force' new items to respawn?

I like how people are using the word 'exploit' like it's a bad thing. Exploiting is to make full and complete use of something. Like an in-game mechanic developed for the purpose of creating new loot for players to obtain. I also like how people seem to think that exploit and cheat/hack seems to mean the same thing. To exploit is to take full advantage of a previously-existing mechanic to your advantage. To 'cheat', in it's most primitive form, is to act dishonestly to get an advantage. Using a mechanics that was purposely put in the game to do what it's currently doing is not cheating. Loot cycling, ghosting, combat logging, etc. are ALL part of the game. Though I don't combat log or ghost, I do loot cycle. I don't use any third party programs or anything like that. I just play the game. If you get mad because of that, then go ahead. Be mad. If ghosting and combat logging become universally bannable, then that's fine by me. It's a shitty tactic anyways. However, loot cycling doesn't hurt anyone, nor does it disrupt their gaming schedule. It's just a smarter way to play.
