    Can people stop saying...

I was just wondering if the OP was aware that the characters within the game are not authentic or real.I mean any article of clothing in the game is one size fits all. So,I can have an authentic pair of Jungle boots but,I need a size 12 to wear them comfortably, for real, while I am wandering the ZOMBIE apocalypse scavenging authentic items to survive on.........STFU with this authentic vs. real debate. Its a game of entertainment. You either like playing it or you don't.
  2. Excuse my ignorance,as I am mostly a Vanilla player and have recently been playing Overwatch.I have never experienced Epoch so I don't know what it offers in the way of gameplay.I was curious about Overpoch though because I was watching a vid and someone kept using the terminology of "AI" in it.Is there some kind of "Bot" play in this mod that they are referring to as AI? I am not sure about the whole Epoch trader system and all the aspects of that particular mod but, I would not mind finding a mod or a server that has " AI/Bots " (players) running in it to make things interesting along with the zombies.Anyone know of such a thing or can enlighten me on any of this? Thanx!
  3. Currently my buddy and I have considered starting an Unleashed server with roaming AI and AI missions. We are not very savvy on setting up (correctly) such a server and what it would entail. Most of the servers we have dealt with have been basic and vanilla. We have not ventured into this kind of monster undertaking before. So,I am a complete noob to attempting this kind of setup. We are wanting to use it on the Panthera map. Basically the idea is to have a server that encompasses PvE & PvP with the AI & Zombies throwing a monkey wrench in our cogs. Not really interested in the over abundant need to build huge bases and deal with NPC traders.Just more interested in interaction whether it comes from AI or real players.Any suggestions or ideas would be welcomed.
  4. My apologies if this is not the appropriate place for this topic.Since my update from steam I have not been able to get connected to any of the servers I frequently log onto.Did I miss something or is there a solution that I am unaware of for this? Any help is appreciated.
  5. Anyone else revisiting the Mod? I was just curious, overall. I have went back to experience the latest mod 1.8 & trying several maps that I had not been to. I missed Namalsk & Lingor so, I am revisiting them. I am currently liking Caribou & Taviana a lot too. I forgot how hard it was to get back to the grind of surviving.I think that playing SA has made me soft. I have gotten the majority of my first time SA player buddies to switch to the mod(s) and try them out. I am getting obsessed again to play and it has been a lot of fun! I can wait to see what SA brings to the table and try it as it progresses when updates are brought to the stable servers periodically.

    Bicycle Suggestions/Discussion [Official]

I would say that anyone that played the original mod and not the offbeat maps/mods,were accepting of what was given to the public and even when it was revised they were more than willing to put time into it.For those folks that don't have enough time to play an intricate game such as this(ie. original mod or even what the SA will become) then maybe you should stick to the console-esque type of games or the AAA titles of BF4 & COD.Those are the types that you can just jump into and play without thinking about any true goal or objective & just shoot em up. This is not meant to be taken as an insult,it is not my intention to throw it out there like one. What I am trying to say is that the majority of most of the first time SA players that I have played with and encounter in forums about the SA,have this pre concieved notion that this game is to be played as it is currently being played...with speed and easy gear ups only to be left with nothing more than PvP shoot em ups once those goals are met.Now we have folks that want to get there even faster with more readily available vehicles at their disposal because they don't have enough time to spend in the game to acquire items that were intended to be rare as they are in the original mod they are being molded after. The goal of the game,as I am to understand it,is not to get any kind of reward for killing a zombie or another player but, to survive as long as you can and take on any and all challenges that you may face within the harsh world of Chernarus. Its the rare items that you might get lucky enough to accumulate that make it worth while to hunt down ,either by finding it in a loot spawn or taking it of off another dead player's body that you found or killed to get it.

How important should vehicles Be in the SA?

I don't mind having the same equivalency for vehicles based on the mod but, what I do worry about is,and this will go along with base building too, that folks will get possessive and start demanding a way to lock these things up so no one else can get to them or access them while they are not logged into the game. They will get belligerent about their efforts to get these together and up & running then, placing items in them and be all upset once someone else comes along and takes it over once they leave the game and it becomes vulnerable. I guess this will be where the modding tools will come into play and folks will mod a way to secure these items from others.

    Server admin rules too strict.

Okay I hear what you are saying but, it still comes down to one thing & one thing only.....CHOICE. It was yours to take a chance on by starting a server knowing the hive concept was setup the way that it is CURRENTLY.This will change along with the progression of the game in its final stages. The popularity of the namesake of this game prompted server providers the opportunity to make their money based on the early release format that the production company decided to put out there on the market...thats all. As far as your friend at EA stating anything pertaining to another competitor,he doesn't know squat or can predict any outcome of anything in the video game world.Time will tell on that front.I wouldn't rely on anyone working for EA making any kind of off handed remarks about failures or scams considering their vast honorable commitments to the gaming community(ie.,shutting down numerous EA online based servers within the last 5 to 10 years). Not making a crack on your post but, trying to get you to realize that its always a crapshoot when it comes to the online gaming industry in general much less, the gamers (investments) themselves. Just Sayin...... Ain't Marketing a Bitch?

    Server admin rules too strict.

Just what exactly has happened to you by the devs or the hive or even your server provider to make you feel this way? I agree with everything you have stated here in this post but,I am curious to why you have brought it here and the reasoning behind your obvious rant.Have they shut your server down for some kind of violation(s)?

Yesterday I played the Mod after 200 hours of Standalone.

For those folks that didn't cut your teeth on the original mod,you missed out on the experience, that I got hooked on,that made me want to spend as much time learning and getting better in game. There were other maps that came along that I enjoyed also.I wasn't as much into getting a starter pack to begin with on some mod variations and servers but,it was always a learning experience. The ambiance of the original, the setting, the sounds, the music, the day and night cycle, the humanity state, all brought different gameplay styles/tactics.The mod(s) were ever changing and created a challenge for anyone who was willing to try them out and find something they enjoyed interacting with.I am so very hopeful for the standalone to follow suit.Minus the hackers and cheaters. If you are able to go and experience the original mod (cleanly) I would suggest that you do so like the OP did and get a taste of what is hopefully to come in the SA with even more surprises.

Would you like spawn points spread out?

The sad part of the answer to this question is that folks are just gonna keep spawning & committing suicide until they get to where they want to be or recognize where they are.No matter where the spawns are located.Someone else voiced the laziness of players currently too. Most of the exploits within the current status of the game enables so many folks to take the easy way (out) to get things done and so,they become reliant on those exploits that they don't really learn the game the way it was intended to be played,IMHO.Overall,I think that random spawn points would help the player to become more and more familiar with overall map.So yes, I am for more spread out points.
  13. Probably a stupid question but, what the hell...I was talking with my other server admin yesterday and the subject of whether you could fire out of or into windows, whether or not they are fully glassed or broken.I have found that neither is currently feasible or,at least I haven't had any luck with it.Is there an exception to the Control towers? I don't spend a whole lot of time exposing myself to other players to know.I guess I could test it but, I was wondering if anyone else had any info on this.I don't sit in any one place for too long so my curiosity got the better of me....

    Broken & Unbroken Glass Windows

Sorry about the confusion.I went back and underlined the initial question....my bad.

    So how do you loot?

It is a very rare thing for me to grab loot off of anyone dead or alive, especially now that most of the gear gets ruined if you are in a firefight.I tend to go into most places very quickly and get out very quickly.Leave your inventory shuffling for later in a safer spot if possible. As fresh spawn water first, food secondary, then I tend to grab any & all ammo, bandages or clothing for bandages and, something to protect myself.Any type of pack I can get my hands on then I work from there.

I managed to trick myself *facepalm*

I have another one.....I still do this to this day.I will be running/traveling through the woods and sometimes when the sun is to my back, the shadow of my character will be projected,at a distance, onto a tree truck where I can just catch a glimpse of it, as it is in motion and it always scares the living shit outta me.....Derp x2

Dear Dean and the DayZ dev team

Well I can tell you from first hand knowledge of doing exactly as you have described here for the last 7 coming up on 8 years of working in 3ds Max.I do this for a living but, not in the capacity of building games but, specifically in conceptual modeling and animations. The models that I create are not even 1 tenth to detail as this game and doesn't involve scripting or working within a gaming engine. That being said, you have no concept yourself of the the trial and error aspect of getting things built into a 3d world model, depending on the size of course much less,a world the size of this particular model(ie,..Chenarus Map). Then placing these 3d model items into the world(map) some with animations, some without.Adding the materials and getting them to look right to the players within the model world(map) and to work properly. There is so much involved in just what I have described and tons of other aspects(sound files,scripting,effects,etc...)that come into play and must all be tested and working properly to get the desired effect the devs are wanting us to experience. Then throw in 40 + people at various bandwidths interacting at the same time?? Are you serious??? You should possibly put yourself into actually doing this before stating something(ignorant) of this magnitude in a public forum. You don't have a clue of the bigger picture you just have a little snapshot and want to show everyone your cute little hobby. Nice Try,though.....

Discussion on the "Hide body" option

I like the idea if you have a shovel to be able to hide the body, that is a very good suggestion. On the otherhand,I (personally)have always tried to hide the bodies of dead players and zombies alike to hide my tracks so to speak.I don't want anyone being aware that I have been in the area or am in the area (currently) or to be able to get back quickly to recover their lost gear. I feel like its no different than folks eating all the food items in an area to keep others from getting it.I know with the full stomach thing it tends to make folks stop but, you can vomit and start the process all over again. Both are just another tactic of survival.

  20. Just curious when these are going to be refined. I am noticing the (loud) shore crashing sounds being heard up in Northern wooded areas where there should be frogs, crickets and, birds chirping instead. And also why there are times footsteps are louder on certain surfaces than others. In the jailhouses I notice that jingling of your equipment is heard but not really any footsteps. It seems to be this way in different buildings also. This is not meant as a complaint, just as an observance and was wanting to know if we might expect any changes for this in any upcoming updates.

I managed to trick myself *facepalm*

I was in a police station and was on the 1st floor and in the 1st room to the right of the spiral staircase.I went into the second room within that room and found some loot, placed it into my inventory, turned around, all the while crouched and was exiting the room, looked down and to my left, coming out of the door,as it was opened inward towards me.I immediately spot a set of boots (just the tips of the toes) out of the corner of my eyes and I froze backed up closed the door and just about pissed my pants.I call out to inform my friendly intentions with no response.I finally come out of the room after a bit (hoping they just left) and it turns out they were a pristine pair of jungle boots I had overlooked before entering the second room.....Derp.
  22. Here is the thing,in my experience,I have been fired upon after knowing that multiple players are in my vicinity and tried to peacefully go in the opposite direction and not engage.Whether or not I made that known to the other party was MY OWN decision. The party fires on me and I end up killing them and after one is killed the other is firing on me and can't aim for shit and is reloading and screaming "Friendly,Friendly,Friendly!" at me like its gonna do him any good at this point..... On the other hand, I have spotted someone and even surprised someone, face to face and spoke to them and with no response from them let them go on their merry way or took off myself.I had an encounter with a friend of mine who was being generous with his food and giving directions to new spawns when 3 others show up and took all of us out, without warning. So lessons were learned (by me) in each scenario.I say to each his own when playing this game.No one should have to do anything in any capacity that they deem might lessen their individual chances of survival, except play fair within the game's own set boundaries/rules.Up until now I haven't seen/heard any rules or circumstances (other than no blatant hacking/cheating) to make me or anyone else feel the need to do so within this game. Its the constant nagging and whining by individuals within the community, voicing it in the forums that, bring this subject to fruition. It comes down to one thing.....personal choice. And that,my friend is what this game is all about.

Did I just hit DayZ puberty?

Exactly, you must assess each and every encounter and act accordingly. You do whatever you have to do to cover your ass.Sometimes you have to kill or be killed, sometimes you can be neutral, communicate and, walk away...sometimes you have to kill on sight because you know no good to you will come of it.Always defend yourself, whether you run and fight another day,go to the grave on a standoff or talk things through and head on your merry way......

    The Community

What is so hard to understand about a game that has a survival concept? The mod was a bit more established than where we are currently with the standalone. It caused you to play differently than most are doing now but, there was ALWAYS KOSing.Telling or forcing others to play a certain way was not the intentions as an overall aspect of the gameplay. You got to choose how you wanted to play.If you lone wolfed it and found out that you couldn't cut it then, you made friends or brought in friends to play with and that was how it got started for your particular story. No one said that that was the way that this game was going to be played or should be played. Its a choice, the whole damned game is about that factor. That much is the only thing that can be compared to real life within this game. I grow tired of people trying to hurry this game along in its progress and suggesting that everyone has or needs or,should be trying to work together in order to make it a better game for them as an individual. That is what private servers should be for.If you want to run lone wolf then find and frequent those servers and put 'em in your favorites. If you want to play as a team and with others then find those servers and do the same.Simple as that.We all know that this(private servers) is not possible at the moment so have patience and it will come to fruition when it does become possible. My personal opinion of gameplay is to learn how to take care of yourself, first and foremost.Don't rely on others to cover your ass to gear up and get established. It was never this way(for me) in the mod and the same for the standalone currently.Once you can get that down pat,and it will take several/many attempts to get there unfortunately.I will admit that there seems to be a bit more of the PvP element now than there was to begin with in the mod but, that quickly changed too once the word got out about the gaming experience. It took me a good while to get the feel for what was expected of me as a successful survivor and how to make it.Each time became easier to do and another lesson was learned and was tried not to be repeated.Once that got to be less of a chore than I began to bring in friends and explain how they needed to go about learning it the way I did.Once they felt secure about their abilities to gear up individually then we worked on teaming up and trying to nail down those aspects of surviving together. All of these things will take place also in this game once it reaches closer stages of completion and final completion.Just have faith, have fun and play with those folks that make it fun for you as an individual.Stop sweating the hackers and other ne'er do wells because they are just ONE more factor to learn how to survive within this awesome game. Just my Two cents......

Just wanted to shout out to the Devs a big congrats! Keep up the GOOD work in spite of the many naysayers and complainers. Just know that there are a plenty of folks who support your time & effort towards making this game and all you do to make it better each day.
