Please don't put defecating in the standalone
Sakka replied to Grumpy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I personally am not a fan of the pooping idea and wish they would focus on other aspects of the game before they really try to get this right. I did like the idea that maybe you only take a shit when an infection has set in on character. An example with some questions as well. So lets say I approach a lake to get some water. Do I just fill up my bottle and boil it or is that lake tainted for a certain amount of time? If so couldn't I just log until server restart. Or do I need to find some gloves and a stick and actually pick up others shit piles? Either way it's not exactly what I want to do in the SA. -
People keep thinking I'm saying "Daisy"
Sakka replied to "Lost" Alice's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I always thought that the "Z" in day DayZ stood for day zero. Day zero is everyone's starting pointing the game and it is one of the only things you see when you spawn in. -
Well you need to have a full water bottle (or three) and also an EMPTY TIN CAN in your main inventory. Then build a roaring fire and if you mouse scroll on the fire there will be an option to "boil water". Pretty much the same as cooking meat in game.

What's the most unrealistic thing you've ever survived?
Sakka replied to colekern's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My story is from when I first started. I had played for about 2 weeks line wolf and then two of my friends got the game. So we were trying to meet up after everyone spawned in. This was their first time playing. Anyways we decided to meet north of Cherno in a field. So I get there first and notice a Heli in perfect condition. Me having never flown the chopper yet didn't want to die trying to land it so I just take watch and wait for my friends. There was 2 frag grenades in the Huey so I grabbed them and gave one to my friend when he gets there. He decides he wants to try the Heli out. He goes to take off but moves slightly to the left and hits a tree and the chopper blows up right in front of me throwing me like 30 meters back. I'm bleeding and unconscious with broken legs. He bandages me up but I can not walk. All of the sudden like 4 guys come running out of the woods. At this point in time I had never seen a hero. They had just reintroduced the skins so to be honest I thought the guy in the hero outfit was awesome plus I had never seen so many survivors together. So I talking in direct chat with the guys telling them what happened and that I needed help. We had no weapons just the 2 nades. I tell my friend to grab one out of my pack and try to blow up these guys while they fix me up. So there is 4-5 people standing around my broken body talking out the next course of action when my friend just runs up and throws a nade straight at the ground near my body. It goes off killing everyone but me somehow. I was bleeding again but I was able to loot some awesome supplies off of this group. I felt bad because I tend to play as a friendly but that moment and how everything went down, I had not really interacted with others in game yet, really made me a true fan of this game. -
I liked all of the ideas that you came up with. I wish they would add something like a crashed plane (maybe lootable if you can swim underwater) at the bottom of a Black Lake or somewhere in reference to the book "Hatchet". Or maybe a house out in the middle of the woods that looks like the one from Evil Dead. The kind of Easter Eggs that you have to put two and two together. Also we need something that makes a really good reference to the fact that chances are there wont be children in the SA.

Why do people consider Kamenka a bad spawn?

how is the playerbase now?
Sakka replied to arthur1265 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Or you can try out Billy Mays Remembrance Foundation. BMRF has great admins, community, and player base. -
'Trust no-one' - is that really good advice?
Sakka replied to Target Practice (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I do agree with you in most of what you said. I play as a friendly most of the time. When I join a server it's more about what adventure/problems are awaiting me. That was makes this game so fun. It's truly amazing how enjoyable your night can go when you encounter/befriend a random survivor and play the game more in their play style than my own. -
Not exactly the same but I joined a private hive and started a new character a out 3 days ago. The first 2 guns I came across was a M1911 and a Makarov. When I tried to move them over onto my survivor they would just disappear. I logged out and then came back in and have not experienced it again.

If you are in the third person and double tap the + key it zooms in just behind the back of your head. Why don't they just make 3dp locked into that. It gives you no ability to see most of what you currently can in 3dp.
-
It would depend on where I came across you and when. If I was playing by myself I would maybe try to safely make contact and see what you were up to or just bail on the situation and book it if I felt uncomfortable. If with my squad chances are we would try to take you out. Never know what a ghillie has underneath that wookie outfit so you just can't take chances.

Yeah I totally agree. If I am not mistaken I do believe that Rocket did mention that writing would be introduced in the standalone.

DayZ Scenario: Would You Kill or Help
Sakka replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah in most situations I like to try and help. In that situation I would. I would want to try to kill the sniper because bandits need an enemy as well. Too be honest there is not much gear that I am willing to kill someone for except some nvgs, other than that I will usually try to help. -
Yeah I have seen that as well. Usually if there is a dead player like 1-6 zombies just kind of stand right on it. Another thing is when we stopped spawning in with a makarov, everyone said the game was too hard but now it is just the norm.
-
I play mostly as a friendly survivor so I definitely know that putting yourself out in the open to quite a tricky thing. So I have to agree that even he was just chilling in a bush watching everything he hold approached the OP in a more cautious manner. Plus whenever people are in groups they are usually less likely to welcome a random encounter with a friendly especially after having your adrenaline pumping during shoot out. I can think of at least 2 times while playing with other squads that someone in the group was friendly fired on because they were not keeping updated info on their location and intentions after a gunfight. When the tension is high running up directly behind someone screaming friendly does not always calm others nerves.

I am quite enjoying the new patch. Of course a couple issues have arisen but overall a good step in the right direction. I believe a lot of the population of this game have not been around long enough to really understand other issues in the game. Some where not around when you couldn't climb a ladder with a secondary weapon drawn or the completely game breaking visual artifacts that kept me from ever going to any military outpost because I could not see ANYTHING on my screen. So now you are telling me that I might have 15-20 zeds on me after firing 3 dmr shots instead of maybe 2-3 sometimes none at all. I can handle those issues. Also even with all zeds a player is still my main concern. Also I think a lot of people got used to just logging out to despawn or just sitting in a bush. One last thing players that had vehicles prepatch had the huge advantage of the easiest loot raiding. Drive quickly between towns...oh no zombies ok park like 200 m out run in spawn loot then drive up with vehicle and shovel as much shit into that ride as you can. I can not think of an easier way to load up on medical supplies which I believe should be the most precious loot in game. So all in all great work Razor and devs. Keep up the great work and hopefully the hot fix resolves the couple of issues that are currently hindering some people's gameplay. Mostly people that are now having really low fps. Not sure how you play a game like this while having to deal 5-10 fps all the time :( you get my beans.

I believe that something like that is just not the way to go. I think the introduction of either a diary or just pen and paper will solve this type of problem. Some players will definitely keep kill counts and combat experiences written down as well as other misc material. What I like about this though is players can write whatever they want so you can't always tell what is fiction and what is not.

Playing With (and honoring) the Dead
Sakka replied to PracticalTactical's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Good post. I like all of the ideas and they fit into the context of the game for sure. Even if they do not implement graves they really need to add the ability to drag the dead bodies. I was amazed the first time someone started dragging me while I was injured. I bought they were a hacker at first lol :) -
I currently have been playing on an awesome server the begins the night cycle right in my sweet spot for when I am usually available and I have been loving it. The night really adds another element to the game. I personally don't enjoy messing with the gamma/brightness. I know it might put me at a disadvantage but so does the fact the I don't ever take a chopper or m107. They are not my play style. Plus it will feel that much better when I get my hands on some nvgs :)

^^ lol ^^ The Zeds really are not much different at all. It's the same principles just more of them and I guess slightly more organized. Still can't remeber the last time I died to zed. Definitely gotten banged up but dying... If you fire a weapon in the supermarket in Cherno and end up getting punched through the wall by zed, I know it's a glitch that you can't control, but you have eyes and legs in game. So use those peepers locate all the threats. Fire weapon more if needed and then use those legs and make escape out. Now it's time to follow your plan... Oh you didn't have a plan at all before you went into a major city and shot your weapon...well that is now on you not the buggy zombies. At least they are consistently buggy so you should know what to expect by now.

To everyone that hates the zombies in 1.7.5.1, my tribute
Sakka replied to GeneralMelchett's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I agree it's whatever approach you want to take. When I play lone wolf I go low and slow. Keep in cover, continuously scan your surroundings and avoid the zombies. Not too hard. Get in and the hightail it out of town after you have gotten what you needed. If playing with another player or squad I'll take many strategies. From stealth, to smash and grab, or an all out gun unloading on the zeds. It depends on the town, the conditions, player count, and gear I am currently carrying. The zeds are not that hard even in this patch. Just try to keep on the move if you fire your weapon. -
How dangerous are the zombies REALLY
Sakka replied to Sandmnbakery's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My personal opinion is the zeds are more difficult after the newest patch but still not that bad. I have played almost every day since the patch and I have yet to be killed by the zeds yet. Sure I have had a whole horde swarming in the supermarket and of course a z train chasing me back out of town at times but you just need to keep moving. I believe one underlying issue between players at the moment is total time played in dayZ. The players that have only been playing for a couple months have only dealt with the type of zeds who were as dumb as it gets. Veteran players can remember when zeds were tougher in the past. Remember the dinner bell...shit got real when you fired that. Just a patch ago I could go into Zeleno I shoot a zombie with SAW and 15 feet away 2 zeds would continue merrily hopping along the road as I am unloading lead into their infected buddies. Now when I shoot I know its time to move, reevaluate, replan, then continue on. Just play smarter and if you really have trouble go with the most op zed weapon...the hatchet. -
Great work man. It was a good story, just needs more description about the actual events. Such as your first zed kill. How did change you, had johnathan ever killed anyone before? Also I would change up the part where you say Balota 3 times in I think 2 sentences. Try something like... "There was a small community positioned just southwest of the airfield. After all the commotion I decided to just get the hell out of there moving further west to next closest town. Checking the map I read the name Komarovo."
-
Hey man I would try Billy Mays Remeberence Foundation (BMRF). They have a couple different servers and the community is a great one. Never have hacker issues and there are a lot of other squads. One downside for you maybe would be that it's not vanilla dayZ. They have added buildings to most of the towns but you kind of need it when the server has a maxed population so often. Also its US based. Hope this helps.

I want to start off by saying I completely enjoy DayZ in so many ways and can not wait for the standalone but I also have some major issues with the game which in my opinion may have a huge negative impact on the community if they are not solved by standalone. I have been playing DayZ for around 4 months now and like all of you I have had my ups and my downs. There are simple game mechanics that run so smooth and really draw you into the game while others really detract from it. There are quite a few topics that I could talk about but most, including this one have been discussed thoroughly within the forums. The one I choose was the loot system because I feel there are a couple of of easy fixes to vastly improved it and its a would be way too long for anymore. 1. Loot should spawn randomly throughout all buildings in the map. Meaning that I could find a high-end weapon in a barn or industrial building as well as military loot drops. Basically all loot (everything from ammo to guns to tool box items) could spawn at ANY loot spawn location. The buildings could still be marked the same (res. ind. mil) but that would only represent the percent chance. No limiting of what could spawn though. This would give survivors more of an incentive to check more buildings more often when near cities. It would also hopefully keep more players moving around the map instead of keeping to just a couple of slightly varying loot routes that most use. I also believe it would increase more player run-ins that are spontaneous and keep more players following the road system instead of skipping the 5 towns around you to get the loot drop that you want/need. Medical supplies staying only in hospitals because I believe they should be the reward of entering a major city. In a real life apocalypse people would not just find certain types of weapons in certain types of places. Yes they would be more likely in some locations but not impossible anywhere else. I assume like some others never go into a barn unless I need a hatchet or jerry can. I would love that feeling like when I first played DayZ. I had no idea what buildings I could enter, I had never looked at a loot map or anything, so I just went into whatever cities that I came across that I felt like I would make it out but I knew I had to go in and try to look for and loot as many buildings as I could before I either got a few things that could keep me going for then or until some shit was going down. 2. As suggested before the loot needs to spawn in a more sophisticated way. Little piles of ammo and bandages does not quite cut it. I definitely agree that it should spawn somewhere in the building that makes sense for it to be at or maybe once they upgrade the inside of buildings with more furniture and more visual character scattered loot drops wouldn't seem so simple. What I think they should implement for sure would be loot spawns on dead npcs. These npcs could look like other survivors but only spawn 1 item. It always adds to the intensity when you think/know a player has been killed. In real life you could come across a dead person in the woods that died from hypothermia or a couple that was attacked and killed by zombies in their house. They could potentially have any of the loot on them. Since they could have died at any time they could have been unarmed with nothing but a watch on or they might have gone out in blaze of glory fighting off zombies until their AKM ran out of ammo. You never know. In my opinion I think military npcs should have the highest percent chance to drop military grade weapon/gear in this loot system design because honestly what soldier dies without his gun in hand while zombies are chilling outside. The devs probably already have a reworked loot system or have improved vastly on the current one but I believe this would be pretty easy to handle and would help out in a lot of ways including rewarding (at times) those who do frequent smaller and less traveled cities, would add to immersion and realism of what I feel this game is about, and it would really add to concept that everything you ever dreamed of as a survivor is somewhere out there in this huge map not just at the NWAF and the NWAF only. It also could maybe help change the PvP aspect going on right now. I'm not saying I'm against murderers and bandits but I would enjoy a game (this excludes hacking which we all know is a real game changer for the worse) where there was more player tracking, gun fights, team fights, and kind of sad to say but betrayals. What makes DayZ really a diamond in the rough for me personally is the player interactions. Doesn't matter if its killing, blasting zeds, getting a vehicle, being killed, helping a friend, befriending a stranger, or just coming around a corner with a gun fully loaded and running face first into another survivor with a gun pointed at you. You make eye contact, don't shoot, don't talk, just haul ass your own separate ways. Anyways sorry if the post was too long but many thanks to Rocket & Friends for a great mod. Looking forward to the standalone. Thanks for reading and if anyone ever needs a medic or need a gaming friend for a night just let me know.
