little birds are great, save for one little thing
SquishyBear replied to BioHazard050's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Oh it goes boom alright if someone decides to hop out while you're flying. -
There's been plenty of times I have been starving for hours because the supermarkets and other spawns were empty or under siege in one way or another or I had no hunting knife to get some meat or I found some meat running across the field and died trying to butcher the damn thing because other survivors were around. I think it's fine.

Nice. Next thing you should try is kamikaze flying into a building with survivors. Good times. -
Trying to find out why my friend was banned
SquishyBear replied to Loosid's topic in New Player Discussion
Did he download any "helpful" programs that could have compromised his cd key? Do other people have access to his computer that could have used it? Is he maybe not as innocent as he claims to be? Several options here. Your only way of solving this is contacting battleye about the ban. PS: You don't get a global ban for playing like a douche, that would be an admin ban. -
Well, first of all you need to tell us what server you were playing on, time, date, that kind of thing. Second, it might be more useful to contact the server admin/ owner and let him/ her know because the DayZ forum staff does not have admin access to servers, especially private hives.

No Heli Crashes on my (vilayer) server?
SquishyBear replied to sconner87's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
No sorry, I have no idea. I only play, I don't host. Though I'm sure there are a few threads about it on here or you could always google something and ask for advice in this forum. -
FR 34 | Banned for nothing
SquishyBear replied to Christoffer95's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I play on a private hive and ever since the implementation of antihax or whatever it is called, people are getting kicked left, right and center for "create vehicle restriction", "add magazine cargo restriction" and similar things (all the while the real hackers are still killing people and making us dance). Usually this just automatically kicks you, regardless of whether an admin is on or not, though I guess in your case it was set up as automatic ban. I've been kicked myself once as I was cleaning out the UAZ, removing all the gear it spawned with and dropping it on the ground... add magazine cargo restriction or something I can't remember, signed back in, no problems. I can however only speak as player, not as a server owner so I'm not 100% sure how it all works. You can try and contact the admin/ server owner or just find a new server to play on. -
No Heli Crashes on my (vilayer) server?
SquishyBear replied to sconner87's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I've read a lot of things on this forum about vilayer servers having issues spawning helicopters and heli crashes. I used to play on one and after finding a choppah and crashing it, it just seemed to disappear, never to be seen again. I don't own any servers but just from the feedback I've read, you may be better off spending your money on a different company. -

Well there are a ton of outhouses in the game, they might as well be put to good use... Are we gonna have to find toilet paper before we can go? -

But I like knowing who I'm about to shoot in the back... Or head... Or both. It makes for good revenge killings! -

And here you just wanted to snuggle... Hey that was us in the background! -
I disagree, I like night regardless of my equipment. I like it cos it's easier to get around zombies. I kill people during daylight hours as well. So do others. Private hive solves the problem of servers being their own hives. And I really like how people make it sound like you can find NV around every corner. I can honestly say I only ever have come across one pair of NV at a heli crash while looking for gear. Other than that I get them from other people's tents and vehicles so in theory other people find them for me. And I'm still trtying to find a set at the moment on the private hive I'm playing on... and that is after finding 5 major camps and a ton of vehicles.

Mysterious Ghost survivor appears on the road
SquishyBear replied to zscope's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
Yeah I watched the video, I saw the guy appearing at the side of the road out of grass and bushes and then it got too confusing to figure out what was actually going on (I watch most videos on mute). It's possible someone signed on and no one noticed, happened to me plenty of times on empty servers. Could also have been a script kiddie, I've encountered several this weekend alone who were invincible or "un-killable". -
Killed a hacker, took his stuff - Namalsk
SquishyBear replied to matacks's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah I've lost plenty of items too. Actually the major problem is usually that you don't have enough space in your backpack so it will just wildly replace something or not pick anything up. Though I haven't had issues like that in a long time now. Maybe it's cos I've switched to a private hive. -
You'd be surprised by how many average citizens have fancy things like that. They may not be as good as army issued items (though that needs to be proven) but it's still the same concept. There is also ways to make it horrible to play for people with NV on, such as fires, flares, headlights, etc.

Then you're doing it wrong. Just yesterday I picked up a rocket launcher, put it into my vehicle and then moved it into a tent without losing or putting down my backpack. You cannot just pick it up, you have to scroll over it until "gear" pops up, then open gear, open your packpack and put it in (takes ten slots I believe, ammo takes 2 or 3). That's also how you can carry about 4/5 guns around with you. One handgun and rifle on you, 3 in biggest pack (2 rifles, one handgun, no space for ammo like that though) :D -

You can access "gear" and put the launcher in without replacing your backpack. Been there, done that. -

Gee whiz, I don't know... maybe he had the rocket launcher IN his backpack.... -
Nighttime is very realistic actually. I used to whine about it being "too dark" especially when the gamma exploit didn't work but then I actually went outside a few nights in a row, clear without moon as well as clear with partial moon to see and judge for myself how realistic it was and I couldn't see shit away from any light source. Also considering this is an apocalypse setting the chances of streetlights coming on are slim to none unless someone goes and fixes the power plant. Generator driven lights are a possibility I suppose but generators require fuel... I guess it could be implemented. There are also options in game to light up the area: fires, fireplaces, flares, chemlights, headlights of vehicles and so on. I don't support removing items from the game to make it better balanced aka "more fair". Life isn't fair, get over it. There will always be someone better equipped than you, with better tactics than you, with better skills than you regardless of the items available in game. I like playing at night, as it is, not knowing what's right in front of me is paranoia enough, not sure why we need more. And in all honesty, if by now you haven't soiled yourself at least once while playing, you're doing it wrong.

Maybe he got lucky and found someone's filled tent or vehicle. I dunno why it always has to be a hacker. Found plenty of ghillie suits and "high powered" weapons as a fresh spawn. Either I found tents/ vehicles or I got lucky and found DMR's/ M14's etc. at deer stands or the like. Actually I don't remember the last time I properly geared up all by myself. Nowadays I just look for camps and vehicles. -
Caesar, all that is wrong with some server admins...
SquishyBear replied to iambanana's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I've come across admins like this. I once played on a server where we had the UAZ for weeks, then it got stolen and we happened to come across the thieves in said vehicle, killed them and took the UAZ back. As we were driving around the coast the server restarted. So we logged back in and spawned in the middle of the road with the vehicle sitting at it's last save point. Needless to say we died shortly after, killed by the thieves/ admins. The server didn't stay up for much longer after that considering the max player online number was 5, maybe 10. Point of the story: The admins aren't doing themselves much of a favour with behaviour like this. Unless of course their goal is to play by themselves. -

SquishyBear replied to zscope's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
It's not even remotely a ghost. It looks like he was hiding in the bushes/ high grass and came running out as you drove by. Or he could have just spawned in. Next there'll be videos about UFO's on DayZ! ;) -
I want to play as a medic/rescue character - thoughts on that?
SquishyBear replied to noisemedia's topic in New Player Discussion
First of all, do what you gotta do. In DayZ you decide how your story will play out. I play on a private hive cluster consisting of 3 servers: CA 20, 24 and 25. Lots of bandits on there so we could always use more bait... I mean medics. ;) -
How can i choose the right server ping for me ?
SquishyBear replied to ianaconda's topic in New Player Discussion
Anything below 100 ping is usually pretty good. You can press P while in game to see your ping on the right side of the screen.
