Medical system for DayZ Part 2: Emergency care for other players
Roshi (DayZ) replied to Roshi (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Thanks! -
Would like to see - Shove/kick - push zeds/players back a short distance - Block - small chance of hacking weapons (axe, machete) or stabbing weapons (eg pitch fork) getting stuck in enemy bodies.
-
No starting weapons.

How about making normal saline from salt and water? For volume replacement in bleeding or severe dehydration.

What animations would add depth and immersion to the game?
Roshi (DayZ) posted a topic in Suggestions
Want to trawl for ideas for animations that would bring you more into the world of DayZ and add functionality. For me: - reaching out and picking up animation for looting. - opening door animation (similar I guess to climbing ladders in that you are temporarily 'locked' to the environment), although would love to be able to aim down sights/shoot with free hand. Largely because I'm sick of doors and gaits pushing me around. - adding and removing attachments - a generic animation similar to reloading that requires gun in hand. I'm not down with the instant attachment changes that are currently implemented. - more functional hand signs as discussed in other threads - for me a "let's trade" hand sign and tactical gestures might be a good addition. Keen on more ideas and critical feedback. -

Yeah that would make the world feel a little less static. -
Clothing Pockets (Separate the inventory slots!)
Roshi (DayZ) replied to jaggardos's topic in Suggestions
I had another idea based on the images in your original post: - to access different 'containers' in your inventory you need to rotate the character in the inventory screen. As shown in your images if you rotate your character to see the back then you're backpack and shouldered weapons are shown in the right side window. If you rotate the characters to face the front - your vest pockets etc are shown. Might save ask the scrolling etc that goes on with current inventory management. -

I suggested something like this particularly for vests (also with pretty pictures) - in the thread on inventory squares in my signature - but you've given it a very thorough and considered treatment. Well done - beans! -
A new Item that I would like to have.! Camouflage gloves
Roshi (DayZ) replied to dutchhell's topic in Suggestions
All about some kind of fingerless gloves. Ps OP you should title your thread "Camouflage gloves" - makes it all much easier. -
'Alternate fire' for melee weapons plus a couple of new melee ideas.
Roshi (DayZ) posted a topic in Suggestions
Disclaimer: did search but results didn't show anything close enough to this idea. Idea: - at least some melee weapons have an alternative attack mode that can be cycled using the F key (default fire mode key). examples: - knives - switch between slashing and stabbing mode by reversing grip. Could be further cycled through to throwing by gripping the tip of the blade. - add a smaller hatchet - a bit faster and can be thrown. - add improvised spear - sharpen 'long ash stick' and blacken end in fire to harden (which could be a time dependent crafting process so that you don't ruin it by 'cooking' too long. Alternately, duct tape or otherwise fixing a machete or knife blade to the end of the haft. Can alternate between throwing and stabbing. -
Bandits, Heroes, Survivors, Zombies and.. Civilians
Roshi (DayZ) replied to SixGunLover's topic in Suggestions
I doubt strongly that these kinds of ideas will get traction with the developers. -
'Alternate fire' for melee weapons plus a couple of new melee ideas.
Roshi (DayZ) replied to Roshi (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
Ps the new physics system should make thrown melee weapons work well from the sounds of it. Holding down fire button to change the power (and therefore the distance) of the throw. - also would love to see a chance of melee weapons used for close combat 'sticking' into their target (eg sometimes an Axe gets stuck in a zed requiring you to wrench it free), and throw bladed weapons always lodging into their target (spear, knife, axe). -
Running on rough terrain, sprained or broken ankles, boots and making adequate light useful/essential...
Roshi (DayZ) posted a topic in Suggestions
Have done the obligatory search and the only hit was an anti-KoS thread suggesting that people who kill others get bad luck and hurt themselves by accident more often - so that means zero hits. I was on a trail run this morning and realized how important paying attention to your environment is when running on rough terrain. The idea: - Navigating rough ground should have a small but non-negligible chance of causing a sprained (or broken) ankle - The speed at which you travel influences this risk (faster = increased risk) - Running through on rough terrain with your head turned should increase the risk (try running on rough ground without focusing on the ground in front of you). - Ambient lighting (i.e. night-time) influences this risk (darker = increased risk). - Running (or sprinting) through the woods at night without a light source should carry a significant chance of ankle injury (if you need an explanation just try it). - Foot wear should influence this risk - military or high hiking boots should decrease the risk, but should perhaps limit your sprint speed - I sure as hell can't sprint in my hiking boots. As I understand it, footwear currently influences foot damage in terms of the foot hitting the ground, not the chance of ankle injuries. This would: - influence the choice of footwear via trade-offs between speed and avoiding injury. - make using a light source more useful (sometimes almost essential but still risky (i.e. a trade off between injuring yourself and being seen by other players (or zombies). - affect how people move on the map - trade-off between visibility from running on roads/trails and the chance of injury running through the woods. May make you slow down or stop to scan the horizon. I know people don't like limitations to sprinting around but these sorts of trade-offs should be key to this game in my view.- 17 replies

Running on rough terrain, sprained or broken ankles, boots and making adequate light useful/essential...
Roshi (DayZ) replied to Roshi (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
On a related note: - moving at different speeds through forests and individual bushes should have a chance of making additional loud noises (such as snapping twigs) meaning that slower, more careful movement has stealth benefits for hunting/player interactions. -
I have a sentimental attachment to this idea but would be happy to see the occasional region-appropriate sword. If there was a museum then a katana might fit - for example a WWII Japanese officers sword.
-
There have been a lot of threads on these ideas and while there are a few supporters they are generally met with ire and verbal abuse. I'm pleasantly surprised with the lack of rage (maybe the community is growing up, or maybe people have just thrown up their hands in despair), but I don't support any overt skills or non-aesthetic customization of the character before starting the game. Implicit skills (some activities get subtly better with practice but without any overt notification) and changed physical condition with training and nutritional status would be a good addition but beyond that no thanks.

Yes yes a thousand times yes!
-
Beans for showing maps to friends idea.
-
- Keep them in but make them a faster reload between each 30 round mag. - Make them high end loot (so rare). - Definitely should be able to tape two mags together. - Make the extra weight influence weapon handling (along with other attachments as appropriate).

Rolling Update Rev - 0.43.116251
Roshi (DayZ) replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
Rocket in a recent interview (sorry i forget the source so ignore of you wish) mentioned that they would like to do something along the lines of zombies spawning in the tree line and walking into the towns as was suggested in reddit. That would make the most sense to me (for villages, towns and cities at least - I hope they add random zombies in the wild and the odd horde as well). -
Seems logical that weapons should spawn with a variety of attachments already in place (especially magazines and optics) in a variety of conditions. Even if the default conformation was the most common. It makes sense that you would more often find pistols with a magazine than without, even if it had no bullets.

Yeah I did a thread on footwear, terrain, ambient light and injuring your ankles - think it's in my signature. -

While that would be cool I'm not sure it would be worth the workload it would take to implement. -
