Should you only have one character per server?
Roshi (DayZ) replied to Roshi (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
How so? Each character is subject to permadeath. And anyway my vote is for only one character at a time. I'm just giving others a chance to put forward their views. Although having two characters say - one for playing with a group and another for lone wolf play seems like a good option for some. One of the biggest threats to the game at present is server hopping. I welcome other suggestions as to how to tackle this, but I think the one server per character option is more hardline than being able to hop around... -
Suggestion - Board up existing houses
Roshi (DayZ) replied to Mullucka's topic in General Discussion
So many dayz issues would be sorted by limiting each character to one server. I know there are down sides but would make a lot of sense. -
Suggestion - Board up existing houses
Roshi (DayZ) replied to Mullucka's topic in General Discussion
What if a lot of houses were already boarded up to a degree? With boards that could be hacked apart but at the cost of potentially zombie-attracting loud noise? Would make player boarded houses less obvious, and might dissuade other pkayers from moving through a town hacking open every house they see, but still have the danger of losing your stash (/finding someone else's). -
Suggestion - Board up existing houses
Roshi (DayZ) replied to Mullucka's topic in General Discussion
Cool idea (as seen in State of Decay) but yeah obvious major problems due to other players (banditos). Obviously also requires walls to be a barrier to zombies first too. I would love to see a feature like this I'm worried that it would require game breaking extra mechanics to make it work. Although semipersistence might do it. I might start a thread on this... -
Removing saline and making ammo much more rare?
Roshi (DayZ) replied to r4nger's topic in General Discussion
For authenticity if anything keep saline and remove direct player to player blood transfusion (or make it more hazardous). -
Totally for this. Also maps should be like the compass and held in your hand(s), not a separate screen. As with compass you'd have to walk or stand still to look at it using the 'weapon up' key (default space bar). See my thread on 'two hands' for combined use of map and compass or flashlight.

One of the cool additions to the mod were the heli crashes. I know there have been posts on this but I would like to sound out some more ideas for other random events that people might like to see later in the game's development (but, please, no Bigfoot sitings, just stuff that would fit the vibe of DayZ...) I was thinking of things like coming across a small camp in the woods (with the previous owner hanging fron a tree or zombied-up), or perhaps finding a petrol tanker (partially full and minus the truck to move it) that could be used for refueling your vehicles (obviously way later in development). I don't even think they would necessarily all need to be hugely 'functional' in terms of providing gear but maybe just add points of interest or some more immersion, as well as providing a reason to explore Chernarus a bit more. What do you think?

Medical system for DayZ Part 2: Emergency care for other players
Roshi (DayZ) replied to Roshi (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Yeah that sounds good. I've attempted to show something along those lines in the pics where the pulse is 'rapid' - you could replace that with bpm if you have a watch - the advantage being you could see improvement with treatment (e.g From 150 to 110 say) which might be harder to pick without the watch. Also a more practiced medic might get additional information from the pulse (e.g. The pulse feels weak). -

Roshi (DayZ) replied to Roshi (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Ive been thinking a little about ways that you could be clued into random events. Circling birds, plumes of smoke from camp fires or burning vehicles and structures, explosions. Any others? -

Really like the train idea. Beans... -
One thing I'd love to see in the (awesome) new Chernarus is more water ways. There are what appear to be dry stream beds but would like to see some water in them. Doesn't even have to be running, Skyrim-type water. Thoughts, feelings?
-
To be honest from an authenticity point of view I'd ditch the blood bag idea and just use saline for the purposes of the game.
-
Taking blood from one person and directly transfusing it into another is not the same as transfusing blood products in a controlled medical setting (and would be potentially hazardous even with the same ABO and Rhesus group typing. Aside from screening for viruses, donated blood is processed to separate it into different products. Blood products are also leukodepleted (white blood cells taken out) to avoid other immune reactions. There are also other antibody-based typing systems (e.g. Kell, Kidd) that can lead to hemolysis (but not as severe as I recall).

Yeah fog and other weather events would add a lot. -
Makes sense to me.

Or a rocket launcher that shoots around corners without putting your body around the corners?
-
How's about a survey on what guns you DON'T want in the game - a lot of posters are putting out some quite strong feelings about what is not appropriate for dayz.
-
Yeah I have been - on a tour of the North - seeing the ponds but not the streams - happy to take your word on it though. Ps I really love the railway up the top of the map.
-
More gun variety, less of them, less ammo, more melee. Oh and VSS Vintorez :)

Blood products (here we are talking about suspended red blood cells) are useful when your haemoglobin is low and further dilution (e.g. with IV saline) is dangerous. In world of DayZ, this would either be rapidly because of IV saline administration or delayed, after 'internal transfusion' where fluid moves into the blood stream to compensate for reduced circulating volume. In terms of game mechanics you could have down sides to repeat saline administration for a patient who is bleeding (decreased exercise tolerance, chest pain, unconsciousness). If 'blood' is beefed up with IV saline, there should be a regeneration mechanic to restore red blood cells as they are produced by bone marrow post-bleed (depending on nutritional status).

Suggestion: Models for radio headset in the future.
Roshi (DayZ) replied to GH3OSTLY's topic in General Discussion
Like this idea. Think that without a headset people nearby should both you and your buddy on the other radio talking. With the head set just you. With the (ultrarare) throat mic as modelled by Bruce Willis in you photo (from Tears of the Sun) perhaps reduce the volume of your voice when you talk into the radio... -
Medical system for DayZ Part 1 – Self-treatment of wounds:

I re-read your first post and I see what you were talking about. -
Medical system for DayZ Part 1 – Self-treatment of wounds:
Roshi (DayZ) replied to Roshi (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Regarding my suggestion in this post you'll see that I suggest you use sterile saline to irrigate wounds (not alcohol tincture as currently implemented). As for AEDs I've commented on them earlier elsewhere - as you say they only work on some rhythms (generally VF and VT). As they're in game they got a mention in my part 2 thread, but for what they should be used for in dayz - well that remains to be seen. I totally agree with you regarding the need for authenticity and I appreciate good critical feedback. I can only assume that you are criticizing the currently implemented system, but anything else that you notice in my suggestions that are off - well point em out... -

In Rocket's defense he has said that he thinks the medical system is currently about 10% complete. -
Who Are You? Or "How to make DayZ not all about KOS in a few not so easy steps".
Roshi (DayZ) replied to semipr0's topic in General Discussion
My 0.02 - character progression should be subtle and limited to things like: - body shape and physical capacity alters (subtly) with nutritional status, illness and physical activity - beard and hair growth - 'soft' skills - modifiers to a few areas that change with practice - aspects of the medical system (e.g. IV placement), weapon handling (e.g. soeed of reloading), starting fires (almost anything with a 'dice roll' style chance of success.
