Hi guys - I have been thinking about the possibility of limiting players to a single character per server - largely to prevent loot-farming and ghosting, but also for later development with the advent of camps and bases. What do you think?
-
Hey - firstly could you reformat your post - sentences and paragraphs are always appreciated. Second, at present I think the survival elements are far to weak at present but I appreciate that it's early days. Granted the scary vibe is important - hopefully that gets sorted as tje zombies get worked on. PvP is by far the dominant threat at present - in my opinion that needs to be equalled by the threat from zeds and the environment.

I'd love it if the systems for medicine, vehicle mechanics, hunting and dressing animals, making snares etc rewarded real-world knowledge (rather than your character possessing the knowledge).

Map Converted To Island With Various Weather Climates - Images For Example

Is it just me or do those two maps bare no relation to each other? That's Russia, Georgia and Azerbaijan in the 'zoomed out' map. That part of Chernarus is supposed to correspond to a part of the Czech Republic (which is land locked - according to the post in Armaholic by VonBarb it best fits with a region bounded by a river (not the sea) with Electro being roughly in the same place as a town called Povrly. -
So as the hunting system gets implemented it would be great to be able to use animal skins, along with other materials, to craft clothing. Hand sewn clothes would likely generally be of lower quality than those made by children in China, but animal skins could be useful for keeping warm for example. Secondly, I would love to be able to modify some items of clothing e.g. sew on pockets, or add metal plates for some limited ballistic protection. I think these sorts of things would add some flexibility to the clothing system and might make crafting more varied as well.

Survivor: Rarotonga :) It's a cool idea. -
Why not? Have you tried crawling along on your belly over rough terrain/asphalt? It isn't good for your clothing (or your skin).
-
Ps regarding snipers - I'm picking ghillie suits would be pretty warm but in that case should be problematic for overheating with lots of running for the reasons mentioned in my post above.
-
Yeah - these ideas are great but as you mentioned OP have been discussed previously. I think there is a place for hyperthermia in people running large distances (exercising skeletal muscle generates significant heat - the basis for shivering) with inadequate hydration and clothing that reduces evaporative and convective heat loss, but as you say hyperthermia should be the bigger killer, especially in Autumnal Chernarus and wet clothes.
-
Moving in prone should wear out your clothes - sewing on knee and elbow pads could reduce this.

I wouldn't go so far as to return full use with analgesia. Depends how pain gets implemented - if there was some cool post-processing effects (not a computer guy so correct me if this isn't right) then pain relief might influence that but you'd still be pretty non-functional. I'm starting to suspect that the devs are going for a more simplistic/'gamey' medical system though (given recent updates).
-
Yeah if you look you'll see I was replying to old crow whiskey - there is no good reason for a doctor's coat only being able to carry medical supplies etc.Regarding the OP I think that could be quite cool if done properly. Would like to spawn in a business suit etc

I think that as environmental factors such as temperature and getting wet become added to the game, additional layers of clothing (particularly for the torso) should be added. Layered clothing traps air and acts as an insulator in cold environments. I would love to have a reason to carry a raincoat or poncho to put on over my shirt if it rains, or a polar fleece if the temperature drops. A key strategy for survival is redundancy, in this case having different clothing for different situations.

Agree with this for sure.

Yeah - I think something like this would work. Broken bones would be difficult to implement from the point of view of healing times (unless sleep when logged off or some kind of time compression is added). I'm not sure about the whole if one limb is broken then the other can't be from an authenticity point of view but probably you would have to go that way to make it work. Could just have it that if you break both arms then survival would be curtailed pretty rapidly (as would be the case!). If your broken limbs were from gunshot wounds you'd probably just bleed out anyway.

Nah man. Clothes should just be clothes. And why would a firefighter carry three axes?
-
Yeah I like this idea but it has been suggested a few times. My take was basically sleep on log out (up to a maximum of 8-10 hours) which allows you to recuperate dependent on nutritional state and the state of your 'camp' (e.g. roughing it, in a bed, in a tent, sleeping bag, fire/no fire etc). You should also become hungry and thirsty in accordance with the length of time you sleep (up to the maximum 8-10 hours). The max time is so that if you don't play for an extended period of time (days/weeks) then your character doesn't die of hunger/thirst.

Neutral Trading Zones - NPC enforcers if possible
Roshi (DayZ) replied to jprime84's topic in Suggestions
Agreed. Rocket has said that there will be no NPCs. Any trading centres that emerge in game will have to be player driven. -
Has been mucked around with over the course of the mod. Used to have revolver, then makarov then no weapon. In my view less is more - happy to spawn with next to nothing.

No. Please no. -
Spare Parts for weapons! Upgrade the condition of your gun.
Roshi (DayZ) replied to Syphax4Ever's topic in Suggestions
I'd like to hear from some of the local DayZ gun-nuts about how something like this could be implemented. -
My medical system idea would allow this to happen - see in the appropriate section of my signature :)

I like the masks for the fact that they allow bandit types to self-identify themselves as a bandit. I distrust anyone who thinks it's a good idea to wear a evil looking mask - probably up to no good.
-
I'd like a mix of containers and random loot. Pretty sure this was suggested earlier but do like your images.

What about using the same tree structure as for ARMA squad communication - the first time you press the 'F' keys you get a group of signals to choose from - say movement commands or numbers, and the second time you get the gesture within that group. Or you could have a radial set up for gestures using the number pad with the same sub-grouping. You get pretty fast with familiarity and a bit of practice.
