Think I found worst person to play Dayz

Yes I fixed that.

Gonna do a test on this flare thing. I play a lot of Arma II / III and as we all know DayZ has a considerable amount of crossed over / similar / re-worked engine routines etc. The one thing I know about Arma is that if I say, blow up a tank and see it burning. I can watch it burn for 10 minutes or so - and then the fire finally dies out. However. If I blow up a tank and leave the area prior to the fire burning out and later return to the area 1 hour or so later. Guess what? The fire is still burning. It seems the burn routine needs to run it's course (while you or someone else are present) until it's finished and then it's deleted. So if a tree falls in the forest and there is nobody there to hear it ...etc etc etc. My theory is....it's the same deal with flares. They have a burn lifespan. They deplete if you are there to observe it but not if you aren't. I will test this :) But leaving one on the floor to let others know you have been there? If I saw a flare burning I would be very cautious. Some players are drawn to bright lights like a moth to a flame. Not me.

What kind of dumb advice is that? Really odd thing to say. In regards to the question at hand. Look at the truck. Does it look like a modern truck to you? Does it look like it was produced in the last 30 years? No? It's an old, beaten up piece of junk. It's a work horse that's seen better days. Hill are not friendly to trucks like this; both in real life and in this game. Additionally, the Arma series has a default key binding to 'shift' that will give you increased power (like overdrive of sorts) and that coupled with a decent run-up, hills will be no drama.

And where is this 'part of the world' you speak of ? What proportion are you speaking about ? 50% ? More ? If it's true that you are indeed subject to a true disadvantage because you cannot join - or remain on, as you say "server, after server, after server" then you have a point. But first you have to prove that what you say is actually taking place (in every case) and show evidence thereof. Or is it a little of an exaggeration ?

Haunt the house

Does that take it to the pristine status ?

I think not. I mean. Modding is not yet implemented in the SA. There is a tool for Arma2 / 3 called G-CAM and if it worked for DayZ SA, would pretty much give you camera control etc. How about getting a forth person to stand in for you so that you can "film" it from a distance ?

Fire and smoke giving away your position?

Fire and smoke giving away your position?
zeotrope replied to Old_Crow_Whiskey's topic in General Discussion
Regardless of what reason we do or do not see fire at distance. The effects of fire should be seen as far as the eye can see. If I can see 3km at night then I think I should see a tiny glow of fire in the woods that far too. If it is daytime then I would expect to see a column of smoke or a hazy plume hovering in the canopy etc. It's a shame that lighting a fire at the moment has no real consequence unless you are very close to another player in which case they will spot you. If you were say, cooking on the fire, and another player was down-wind of you, It would be great if he / she received a message such as "I smell food cooking" or something similar. Fire is fundamental to long term survival in the wilderness. It is a basic requirement. Here's hoping that the Devs go all out on this one. From feeling the temperature of a recently extinguished fire to observing the effects from long range. Fingers crossed. -
Please don't duck with the current 'Hardcore' mode.
zeotrope replied to stilton's topic in General Discussion
Odd suggestions in this thread along with an odd suggestion for a company to not want people to play a game they produce - or at least the server admins etc. etc. Perhaps some of you hardcore gamers should uninstall DayZ each time you die and administer self harm as punishment for being ambushed. What a lot of rot. -
Is it too late for night time servers?
zeotrope replied to Caboose187 (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
The moon, fires and flashlights should be the only things that allow us to see anything discernible at night. Server hosts want to see full servers. They want their servers to be the popular ones which are always full etc. But therein lies the problem. The majority of the player base of DayZ don't care for night time servers. Do not care for 1st person only and do not care for the general complexity of anything out of the normal "jump on and KOS a bunch of noobs" type of gameplay. Night time servers will always be the lower population one. That's kind of sad. I fully share the same early experiences that the op has stated above. Those early days of the black unknown. The sound of footsteps and the anxiety of the unknown. I'd like that experience again. But can't see it being mainstream due to what the majority want. I really do hope that when this new light renderer comes along that even in the daytime that pokey little corners of dwellings require the use of flashlights etc. I'd love to see the human eye's shortcomings simulated correctly when it comes from leaving a bright outdoor setting to entering a dimly lit interior with dark and spooky corners etc. DayZ used to have a real atmosphere. Not sure it still does. PS: How about some shooting stars ?! -
Could be duped...could be legit ie: Somebody felt generous....but it's more than likely duped. Regardless. If you are freezing and have a good jacket (pristine) go for a run. Open up you inventory tab periodically to see your temp status has returned to cold and ultimately, normal. Arranging 3rd party help prior to you logging on is not really in the spirit of the game. But that's up to you man.

Thanks for letting us know

Couldn't agree more. This is what I wanted DayZ to be from the start.

Fraps and Shadowplay both report the same framerates. In fact recordings ported into After effects show that what was reported on screen and what was actually recorded is one and the same. You are in a large town getting 15 fps? Better believe it buddy.

People who are born into poverty are a little different to people that suddenly lose everything. In some parts of the world society is on the brink of anarchy. It only takes a trigger for some social groups (usually very civilized) to lose control and literally, run riot.

Third Person View should be Over-the-Shoulder, NOT a bird's eye view.
zeotrope replied to Rags!'s topic in General Discussion
Unfortunately 3rd person is part of the game. I wish it wasn't but for some reason Bohemia thought I was a good option for the Arma series, the Mod and now the SA. 1st person servers are an option but it's sad how unpopular they are considering how great the gameplay is in this mode. Oh well. -
I think there should be a compromise here in the way loot spawns. Surely an AK (or a sword) should spawn anywhere and everywhere. But it would be unlikely....but still a possibility. Why should an experienced player know what to expect to find in any particular area? A sword should spawn anywhere but most likely in the correct setting. 90% chance in a castle or similar and 10% anywhere else. It would instantly prompt the most unlikely locations to be checked rather than passed by. Example: if I am fully equipped in the way of food / water and all other basics, and only need an assault rifle to complete my load-out, I would only check military areas and helicopter crashes. Correct? But why? If the Devs gave all items that ever so slight chance to spawn anywhere, even only a remote chance, the surprise / reward factor would be great. It would make an instinctive 'side track' on the chance of scoring something worthwhile......worthwhile. This game reeks of predictability. From the 'sameness' of every town to the loot types that spawn in particular houses. From the online database maps that tell you what to find and where, to the preset heli-crash locations scattered across the landscape. I mean COME ON! Mix it up a little. Where is the fuzzy logic or is every entity we are to come across hard-wired into the game and no chance of randomness ? Good you found a sword. But it could have been an AK.

DayZ Standalone Or Arma 2 DayZ mod?

With a 'hit and run' troll post like that you obviously haven't played the SA or ....as stated, you are just a troll. -

Yeah I found that in .52 when I carry a jerry can and enter the vehicle I lose the can. I can no longer carry it with me. Additionally if you place the can (or any other object) to close to the truck you cannot pick it up again. I dropped my AKM to go grab a Jerry Can and after I refueled I could not grab my weapon. Fix: Drive off a few hundred meters and return. The weapon was accessible again.
