Lets not make bandits worse, lets make heroes better.
platecloak replied to Agiantstick's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
"Bang Gang clan now accepts two new heroes. Bandit slots filled." I think you need to be extremely careful when thinking of giving perks to high humanity. Even plain stats will easily steer some players into a playing style where they try to maximize a certain stat, be it murders or humanity. Sandbox goes out the window. That's a lot of sand. The important thing for me is that humanity (visible or not) should never be resetted by dying or other way. Players must take the consequence of their actions - or buy a new game at least. Perhaps it's best if there are no perks at all. Some visible marker might be enough (I think the skins overall should give players unique looks). -
Totally support this except perhaps the /cry and /dance emote which would only be used for silliness. I really miss being able to quickly do a plain wave motion. Many players get killed because they don't know the standard dayz way to show friendly, which is: kneel, stand, kneel, prone, roll left, roll right, stand, surrender, surrender, surrender, salute.

Agreed! If I'm injured, low on blood or whatever it should show or at least match whatever visual effect I get. The purpose would be as you said garner sympathy - or wake the inner bandit in players. Either way it gives an indication on how dangerous someone is, if he/she can be outrun, don't see well etc. And make it easier to judge what kind of player they are - which may well save their life without knowing it (and the opposite of course). They could be split up into several acts that doesn't take that long each. Replacing fuel tank parts could require a "get under object" animation as prerequisite (and could be used for hiding as well). Exactly. If detailed enough, this could replace the bandit/survivor/hero skins. Today if someone is carrying a sniper rifle it's a cause for caution, perhaps less so if the player also have the beginner backpack. More visible details make it easier to assess how dangerous players are.

What should our next competition be?
platecloak replied to mattlightfoot's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
* Best 10 second video. The winner contributions could then be compiled into a longer with non-stop action. * Best "in action" screen shots. Fraps can be set to automatically take pictures every 10th second (or other time period). This obviously produces 100s of pictures where 95% are very boring. But I've tried this in other games and some pictures can be quite amazing, with stuff happening like muzzle flashes, flying bodies etc that you are to busy to take in that situations. The best pictures can slide-showed on the sites front page. -
Make DayZ more DayZ by cutting off the offline relationships of players by respawn in random server
platecloak replied to neetrucfuclie's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Actually, this could work also if it's voluntary. There could be ordinary servers and an option to join a pool of servers where server details such as number of players and who's playing is hidden. If the pool is large enough, the player would know that it would never be practical to try to meet up with someone - and all other players joining the pool would be in the same situation. No player would never know if the server is full or empty. A problem could be tents and vehicles the player have saved. It should be arranged so that tents and vehicles follow the owner. Again, if the pool is large enough any server with a clear area around the player's tent could be selected and then the tent be placed there. -
Sorry I looted your tent... I was desperate!
platecloak replied to Penny Sue's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
When I was into tenting one of the goals was to have basic supplies so that another starving survivor in bad shape could eat, drink and get some ammo before they move on. Never left any weapons though, that can only end bad. -
Make DayZ more DayZ by cutting off the offline relationships of players by respawn in random server
platecloak replied to neetrucfuclie's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Beans for this idea. I've had a similar idea in my head as well, a dark fantasy about a world sized map where players would travel for weeks before they met the first other human. Imagine playing the game for that long, starting to think you're alone and suddenly you see another player on a distance. What to do, what to do!? Oh no, he's got a sniper rifle, what does that mean, is he dangerous!? A DayZ experience increased by magnitudes. Since a world size map is pretty difficult to achieve, hiding the server details for the players would be an alternative solution. Absolutely. Still, it kinda trivializes the game. Since you know you're going to meet up with your friends you'll never team up with a random stranger.Ah well it will probably not happen. While DayZ was an "anti-game", the stand-alone will have a profit goal and eventually cater for the mainstream player. Wouldn't be surprised if there will be clan support, friends list, global chats etc etc. Meh. -
bump warning! This is a very sandbox-y thing to have in the game. Make it able to lift stuff and climbable and then leave it to the players to find some use for it. Same with the bulldozer. Likewise, it should be possible to equip the tractor with typical farming gear and some kind of pulling chains to pull vehicles, vehicle wrecks, containers and other stuff (train cart?).

The world the survivors live in reflect the last stages of the pre-apocalypse struggle, just before civilization broke down. It would make sense that both airfields were civilian to begin with but the military quickly secured them to enable support to be flown in and perhaps citizens flown out. Well that's how I rationalise it (fits with how the deer stand are military loot point as well: it's a makeshift military outpost to secure quarantined areas).

I always thought that morphine represented both the anaesthesia and the act of straighten out the bone and splint it, which the anaesthesia enables.

All buildings - lootable or not - have zombies around them so don't look for a house with no zombies. As zombies only can walk indoors, look for large buildings like barns and warehouses with an opening. If a zombie detect you, just make a mad dash for the building. Once inside, it's easy to dodge the zombies and you can loot if you're fast enough.
-
Could perhaps be some kind of server problem too. I tried a private hive the other day and when first entering a town there would be no loot, no loot as in nothing at all, no whiskey bottles or tin cans even. Other players were complaining about it as well so instead of leaving I'd just stick around a while and sure enough the loot started to appear. The NWAF is so large so if you do a circle around it, there will be time and distance enough (too close and no new loot will appear) to spawn new loot. That's one thing I like with the NWAF: it's size. First time I was confused cause "ok, there's a hangar but where were the tents? did I miss the tents? ok nvm the tents then."

What I've tried: tents and camps: failed and then I lost interest repairing a vehicle: gave up ever finding a fresh spawn, I've only found repaired ones and only vehicles I'm not interested in crossbow only: never again Lee Enfield as primary: much better, but it doesn't last long (found it soon and then what) Night play: pretty much requires G17 and preferrably Remington this weekend I tried running non-stop from new spawn to NWAF, -only allowing a stop to use the bandage if needed and -the first loot must be military in NWAF I'd like to try some kind of loot-chain setup where a designated 1st looter takes what he wants, then 2nd takes whatever 1st leaves etc. Nice to be able to clear a place completely and have a steadier (but slower) gear progression. Impossible team. 1 Lee Enfield only, 1 crossbow only and 1 Hatchet only (or crowbar).

A lot of games let the game executable take arguments to customize how the game should start (usually to skip stuff like intros etc). It would be nice if the standalone had the same because then you can create a desktop shortcut with your own favourite settings for faster startup. Example: dayz.exe -skipintro -connect 129.129.129.0:11111 -user player1 -passwd s3cr3t -join Well, you can probably guess what that would do. It would be best if this was combined with a final confirmation dialog when everything's loaded and ready (suggested here).

Confirmation needed before spawning your character
platecloak replied to okami (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Great idea. Any waiting for loading, creating character etc will be much easier if you don't have to stare at the screen until it's done. With a final confirmation you can do something else meanwhile, getting a snack or glass of water or whatever. -
"Oh, it's night. Guess I'd better leave"
platecloak replied to chris p. bacon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'll wrap it up when it's getting darker cause looting a town takes longer and it's easer to get lost when you can't see landmarks. But darkness have several benefits to it so I don't mind that much. I don't use gamma correction but tabs out a lot to check the map. You guys should try night play when it's full moon, it's a lot brighter. -
The vaccine was on it's way by sea. Police and the army were barely able to maintain order in the the quarantined areas. Watch posts are set up and anyone spotted from these are hunted down and killed to keep the contagion in control. Then, in the evening, the news came that the ship had hit a reef so bad it broke into pieces and sunk well before reaching land. Full panic ensues and despite harsh action from authorities, all enclosed areas is breached. Total chaos and anarchy follows. But perhaps some of the cargo made it to shore? You run to the basement to fetch that old coyote pack. This night will be the most dangerous in your life... Now that's an idea for a game. DayZ: the prequel .

If a zombie kills you, then you(Your corpse) become a zombie.
platecloak replied to mitor's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Perhaps if you've passed out and have little blood left (say less than 2000) then there's a chance that you'll become zombie as a kind of premature death from the players pov. Of course the player should be rewarded by seeing through the eyes of this zombie for a few seconds as it attacks friends and foes nearby. Not controlling, just like a kind of deathcam for a few seconds. -
Note-pads, pencils, and camping tents.

Thermal and night vision should be removed
platecloak replied to FrankDaTank1218 (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
Will batteries really nerf NVG that much? I have yet to find any but surely it wouldn't take more than a few seconds to do a full sweep outside population centra and once you've seen someone you'll only need to turn it on and off for less then a second to get a bearing for pursuit. A 10-minute battery would last forever. Players without NVG are actually handling NVG players quite well - by only playing on day servers. If you want to kick some life into night time playing then NVG and thermal must go. -
Have camping tents been removed?
platecloak replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Or: tents are blown up/emptied at increasing rate, making less people leave them when they see one (since they need a replacement). -
Not a care-bear thread, but asking for a solution
platecloak replied to Jurkey's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've only played for 2 months but have been thinking that players should have if not unique then at least more different look to give them identity. For this to work, the skin must be random and unreplacable (perhaps with exception from ghillie and camo). This means that by letting someone live means you'll recognise that person later on if you happen to see him. If you kill him you won't know which skin he will have when respawn. If a kill is observed by someone else on a distance he might take side next time the killer is seen in a fight with someone else - or spread the word. Observing players without engaging them gives a small information bonus as the observer can learn more about the player each time he sees him doing something. That also builds small amounts of trust. One way to accomplish this is to give players the various zombie skins instead of the sketchy looking survivor skin. Players would look like farmer, suit guy etc . As many different skins as possible should be used. -
platecloak says hi. When first playing this mod there was crawling, crawling and more crawling so then it was all running upstanding highly visible, throwing flares and in general being noisy. Currently enjoying playing in dusk/darkness.

Sad reason for first post but I was hit by this hack this morning between 6-7 gmt+1 (and died instantly). The server was Norway 42. I had played for 30-40 minutes when it happened. This server was connected to the public hive and AFAIK I've never played on any of the private. I also recall there was a message about hacking like in JackOfBlades72s first picture. Thinking about it, one of the last things I remember doing was converting shotgun ammo to 8rnd clips, perhaps that triggered it? Although I didn't see the Monky Monitor until a moment before I died. It was then displayed several minutes during the "you are dead"-screen until it was replaced by the hacker message. During this time I heard the same ding sounds as in Kyreapers video, it could have been update sounds. The debug info seemed to be session specific, it listed only 7 or so zombie kills while I had around 200 in total. Arma version installed is 96895 and Dayz 1.7.2.6. When I joined the server it was empty and when I died there was only one other player on. He then went to one of the other Norway servers(49, or 3,4,5). The 4 first letters in his name was Kada (I don't write the rest in case of name-and-shame-policy).
