  1. Going to 'jine the Cavalry,' methinks. Sounds like a good bunch of lads. Old BKB'er from WW2OL myself, so I know how fun teamplay can be.

What I was going to say. Plus, one dude decides to drawn down on a group of 10? Gangland-style slaying. We eat his beans and bury our dead. :)
  3. Well, that's a useful observation :D Example: I'm a Noob. Not to FPS, just to this game. And know what? That's ok. Everybody was a noob once, even "supral33tNoobKillah3000." Just the nature of the genre. I try to be a "leave me alone, I leave you alone" type. Prefer killing Zed, but each to his own. You want to be an extra from Mad Max? Knock your bad self out. Want to be the lone wolf avenger? Have fun--the game is big enough for that. I was playing the other day, new character. Spawned near Electro (I think) so I try to get some goodies before getting out of Dodge. RL interferes--my antivirus decided to do a scan then was nice enough to take me back to main screen. So I click left mouse to reopen Arma2. Of course, I must have double tapped it, because my friggin pistol goes off. Weellll, fuck. I think. Of course, someone comes on global "whos in town?" I respond "just a noob getting out." And here he comes. Joe McBadass looking to PK some noob. Yeah, like I said, noob at DayZ...but not Arma2, WWOL, MW and so on. Yeah, I lie like that sometimes ;) I hide out in a tower and wait. Sure enough here comes supaKillah. Of course, in his rush of badassery, he manages to improperly clear a room--the one I'm in. I give him one last chance and take a chance myself. I throw a flare down the stairwell--a signal that "yeah dude, I could have iced you but didnt. Want to co-op?" PuffDaddyStoneKillah? Not him. He is way to bandirtybadass. Comes back up the stairs guns out. He catches four in the chest, I loot his shit. Am I a bandit? Nope, a survivor. Made my point and got out of Dodge. One less Kyllah on the server and I live on his beans. Nothing more tasty than Bandit Beans.
  4. I get the argument BM--the question is is this just another FPS NooBKillah opportunity, or something really different in a game? Personally, I'd like a big enough and varied enough world for everyone--from the killers to the builders--to play. If it is just kill or be killed, the game will burn out quick; folks will get bored after killing Bean Boy the 3000th time and head off to COD XVIII, Revenge of COD XVII. As it is now, there is no real motivation not to kill and loot; that's been a problem in MMOs since Ultima Online started back in the 90s (and it almost killed that game in the crib). If it was all about that level of survival (kill em, take stuff, repeat) then the human race would have died out in the caves. :)

    Beginner's Guide

I think the logic is the wood represents already cut firewood. Now if we had axes.... Side note, I spent most of my noob time last night working my way into a barn, hoping to find something to defend myself with. I found the uber firewood reserve instead--three piles. Zed ate me soon thereafter. I can only assume he cooked me first.

    Noob question (bandit time)

I am for new skins and customizable characters. That would be cool. I can see the Clown Posse running around as we speak. Literally gangs of bandits dressed as circus clowns.

Hi all :) My first question

Thank you! i read yesterday all the beguinners guides but i confused with the names of the different games lol (arrowhead and combine operations) now is clear , i need the 2 games arma 2 and arrowhead, in other words Combined operations :) Yep. took me a while to figure out where it was in Steam. You have to start (in Steam) Arma2 OA, but start it as CO. Then it runs fine.

Agreed. Making it another FPS deathmatch game is a bad, bad thing. ArmA2--a great game btw--is a bit dated, et al. If the choice is the newest shiny graphics, etc. for the exact same gameplay experience, then DayZ will lose out. I played WWIIOL for years; it was a great game in its day. You played UK or French vs. German--it was all about coordination, cooperation, etc. I get the fun of just not knowing if the other guy is a PK'er. The Killah gets his rewards in the system now (e.g., your stuff), while the human gets the shaft. Where is the advantage for cooperation? Love some of the comments here. Some are well thought out; others, not so much. I have to laugh at the Lone Wolf McQuades--if it was RL, the Zeds would be the end of the human race (don't cooperate, kill everyone in the way, and so on...) Interesting study of human nature, this game.
  11. Maybe it is just me, and I'm terminally noob in this game, but it seems that you have to examine the question from the survivor side as well as the bandit side. Why do people organize in groups (not just in the game but in real life)? Security, shared resources, etc. are all primary reasons. The biggest one, IMHO, is that humans are social animals; people go a bit bonkers when left alone too long. How can you reflect this is a game where, while your character is persistent, the world really isn't? You can't rebuild a village and defend it over the long term--servers go away. You can't rebuild industry, etc. How many players would jump at the chance to rebuild society? Hell, how many would love to get an ammo factory going just to make Makarov ammo? Personally, that would be a load of fun--not just dodging Zed and bushwhackers, but trying to get the airfield running again, or a Hind D flying again, et al. Basically, other than the fun of teamwork and team play, there isn't a real motivation not to be scum. Call it what you will, killing noobs for their beans is a bit scummy. Maybe it should be based less on punishing PK behavior than rewarding teamwork (more chance of better loot, due to more eyes looking for stuff? I don't know...). Either way, it is the best game I've played in years.
