In this step-by-step tutorial you will be shown how to run ArmA 2: Combined Operations with working Steam Overlay and Beta patch. First of all, make sure you have the latest available beta patch installed, you can check it by starting game and checking it from the lower-right-corner of the menu-screen, it should be something like "1.60.XXXXX". download the latest Beta patch from here http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php by pressing the version number you would like to download, you can also download older beta patch to use with DayZ but it is recommended to download the latest patch for better performance and working Direct Communication and other fixes and features. Just as a friendly warning: Installing Beta patch removes Side Channel ;) EVERY TIME YOU INSTALL NEW BETA PATCH YOU HAVE TO REDO STEP 1 OTHERWISE THE NEW BETA PATCH WILL NOT WORK! A: This is caused by the fact that the game has not registered the CD-Key to the Windows Registry, this is very easy to fix, just run STEAM as "adminstrator" and then run "ArmA 2" and then "ArmA 2: Operation Arrowhead". A: This is false, copying DLL files or ANY Beta files from the beta folder into the original game files folder can *** your game. Why? because you will be stuck with the beta version which is mixed up with the stock patch and after that is done, and you can't play on older beta patch servers nor with stock patch servers. MY method instead of replacing original files only "injects" the Beta files and works like a mod (DayZ, Project Reality) without tampering with any original files, this is the safest and the best method to play ArmA 2 with beta patch and there is NO way that my method could *** your game. Sorry, I haven't been able to post on this forum for a long time because of the new forums and my browser didn't really like it :P Well, I don't really know what could be the problem, but it could be with the .cmd file, try downloading and replacing the file with this one http://www.mediafire...tju0d6s5md6y8r6 . If still not working, I suggest you to do a full re-install.

Did I say that you need extra .cmd file? no. I said that if it doesn't work, download the extra file. Sheesh, can people read nowadays? :-/

I downloaded your pre-configured _runA2CO.cmd file, and everytime I reinstall the game ( 3 times so far ) it doesn't switch back to the old _runA2CO.cmd file. Do you have any ideas how I could make this work ? I would really like to play on Steam with the overlay, but it's been 3 times so far, I might as well just play without if it doesn't work. I've reinstalled both of them (as mentioned), twice in fact, and encounter the same problem regardless. Then, I'm afraid I have no idea what is your problem, did you try to run both games first as adminstrator before pressing multiplayer?

Agreed, It keeps puzzling me why on earth would you shoot a unarmed fellow survivor, although I understand the fact that they may become a threat if they manage to find a weapon and start tracking you afterwards. I never have shot an unarmed player, but I always warn them not to come any closer or I will shoot them, not deadly but shoot in the leg so they wouldn't start tracking me. If they wan't to group up I may let them follow me and even give some supplies, like a pistol and some ammo. Once I gave a Lee Enfield with 6 mags of ammo and something to eat and drink, after I turned around he shot me in the back, so I'm bit alerted even near unarmed people, they could be carrying a gun in their backpack too!

Turn off the post-processing from the video settings, that's a real fps killer and makes game really blurry.

Awesome fixes, but at this moment the "zombies" are hyperparanormal, überzombies I would say. They can see you from over 20 meters even when sneaking and after one zombie has seen you, ALL the surrounding zombies aggro too, so after that you end up running away from dozen of zombies. They have hearing and sense of smell of dogs, sight of eagle, and they run like Usain Bolt.

You can disguise as other soldiers in ArmA 3, but it only takes it's clothes, it doesn't rip his face and skin and plant it on yours. lol
