It's so hard to hit 3 players that's completely static because they are lagging.

[PSA: Server Admins] How to Optimize your DayZ Server for MAXIMUM Performance.
nahaz replied to a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Anyone with the slightest bit of networking knowledge would know that increasing packetsize won't help. Packets with a size of more than 1500 MTU will most certainly get dropped by the next hop towards the client. -
Wait till you have survived for a couple of weeks and have all that nice gear on you, only to get one bullet to your head without any chance to do something about it :)

[Guide] How to set up your graphics properly
nahaz replied to nahaz's topic in New Player Discussion
Good to know. My last playsession I noticed a more stable framerate when recording (Using fraps) when using the "Default" value. I'm going to update my post when I get back (off abroad on work atm) and have done one or two more sessions. 6990 is ATI top of the line so you can go ahead and max out everything, especially if you run on 1 screen. I have a GTX 670 (690 being the top card from nvidia) and I have everything maxed, AA off and I run on 3 screens with a resolution of 5760x1200 and my game is around 30 fps when recording, 60+ when not. -

AA is essentially the same as playing on a higher resolution, but it takes alot of performance on your GPU. In Arma, you don't get much out of increasing AA, the edges on most objects are pretty smooth anyway since most objects are large and won't have a huge impact from AA. I have not advised people to turn it off without any reason. Vsync stands for Vertical Sync, vertical is subject to vertical refresh rate of your monitor, which is the refreshrate you can adjust and is most standardly at 59 or 60. Better screens have 100 or 120 hz. Arma is the first game I have encountered this logic, but I would not be surprised if this was the case on several games, just not as "black & white" as Arma is on it. Servers have FPS aswell, they usually are 1-3 FPS and depending on if they fluctuate or are barely at 1, clients will be limited due to client/server communication, the client has to wait for the server to catch up. If packetloss occurs, there will be net lag yes. In arma though there's the term of "desync" where the server actions are running slower than normal due to some reason. One example being helicopters (the vehicles, before they were disabled) caused a ton of desync due to moving very fast and DayZ executing scripts based on distance traveled. This kind of desync causes in game time to run slower, zombies to act weird, item spawn and spawning in general to be erratic. -

What resolution do you play on? I don't think 40 fps is pssoible with your setup, but 30 might be doable, not 100% stable though. If the server has poor performance you will have crap fps, so it might not always be your computers fault if you have poor fps -
Ghillie suits and helicopters are still in game?
nahaz replied to darkanima270's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
"Skins" (Ghillie, camo, military) can spawn in all residential buildings. They're not just spawning due to a bug that's resolved in 1.7.2.4. It's easy to find skins i Cherno. Chopper vehicles are disabled until they're bug free. They currently cause a shitload of desync on the server so they have to be "reconfigured" as I saw rocket explain it once. -

Glad to see it helped! (Updated main post) -
Your setup should be able to run the game. What are your settings right now? Can you screenshot them? (with the advanced settings up) What OS are you running? w7? I suggest you try out Arma 2 single player (don't load DayZ files) and run a couple of missions with alot of action in them and see if they are smooth or not. Arma 2 is a CPU heavy game and I don't know much about AMD these days since I've been using Intel for the past 10 years, but check your CPU load during gameplay. Arma 2 is only dualthreaded so 1 core = 100%, 2 core = 50%, 4 core = 25% etc when it's fully loaded.

Since it's a laptop you can't upgrade your GPU. Your option is to look at new hardware. I guess you have Intel integrated graphics and those are just not up to par. If you want a laptop I suggest looking at Asus G-series or MSI gaming laptops, to my experiences they are good and give quite a bang for your buck. originpc.com and xoticpc.com provide some more customisable laptop options but will probably end up a bit more expensive, not neccesarily though. -
You can lose the zombies chasing you by running through building or woods/bushes where they lose their line of sight of you. Zigzaging up a steep hill made the zombies walk straight up so you can outrun them and lose them that way, dunno if it still works though.

The issue is when people reference Cod/BF as why they can snipe, where their practice comes from. Also, your aggreviated responses suggest that is the case since it makes you look butthurt.
-
The CoD and BF series of games are nowhere near as real as Arma when it comes to sniping. You need to calculate trajectory speed vs target movement, range, elevation etc.

Storing movies on SSD is a waste of money, they are built for performance, not storage :) You're way better off going with SSD+HDD if you need storage aswell. In most cases, people are just being hamsters by not cleaning up their shit and just saves it all even if it hasn't been used for years.

So you log out to avoid getting killed?
-
120gb is enough. You don't have to have every single game installed at the same time.
-
Some bugs are just plain weird and stupid.

When this happens you usually have to wait it out for 5-10 minutes. Are you sure the hourglass isn't moving at all?

Nice to hear it went smooth :) (I just nailed a fully geared sniper so I got it all right now) -
They cost as much as a 1TB disk today so the overall price doesn't have to differ that much.
-
You have to wait it out or get someone to help you with an epi-pen

Alienware are the worst of the worst when it comes to gaming laptops. Don't buy them. Asus G-series or custom laptops like the ones from originpc.com or xoticpc.com will net you alot more perfomance for the same or less money. MSI has some good gaming laptops aswell. But seriously, stay away from Alienware.
