I would like to point that BIS is to be commended for their flexibility and reactivity. They got a huge success out of the blue, but the decision go take DayZ under their wing is not so easy. It is a very difficult moment for them, they are nearing ARMA3's critical months. Hiring, training and getting a new team going is not so easy when you are not sure if DayZ has any staying power or it'll just be a fad. Now, developing a personalized version of their engine, promoting and releasing a new game in such short notice is courageous. From what Rocket has said to ArsTechnica, it seems like he's been able to retain a big amount of control over the final product and that his vision will dominate over other more commercial concerns. Again, a valiant decision on BIS' part. Extremely good news!

Rocket Defence Force and Anti-Rocket Alliance ASSEMBLE

RDF FTW! -
I was thinking that it would be kinda cool to drive a nice car to the middle of cherno, park it in the main square and put a bear trap inside. And now that we are into this, it would also be cool to leave a trap built with a grenade and a little bit of wire. Maybe using the toolbox?

Oh darn. I seem to be the only one who did not know. Thanks anyway.

Most probably this has already been suggested, but how about introducing in the zombie attack the chance of being bitten and then, depending on your health/temperature level, having a variable chance of becoming infected. Once infected, you could maybe fight the infection by taking antibiotics, either curing it or slowing it. It could use an indicator just like thirst and hunger, but with the Biohazard symbol, something like what I just attached. It would periodically go orange, red and flashing and finally you'd die. For the sake of keeping up hope, maybe if you stayed alive and taking antibiotics for a certain amount of time you could successfully fight the infection and be clean again. However, as the virus keeps mutating, a new bite would probably infect you again. What is the advantage? It'd make the zombies MUCH more scary and I think that it would allow for new stories to emerge. I also think it is "relatively" cheap to code given the current structure. I know that zombie attacks already have different results and that the script allows to change your character's state after an attack. So it does not seem too difficult or far from current mechanics. Which is of course irrelevant to whether or not this would be desirable, but maybe Rocket would like to experiment it? Ok, besides the "it's already been proposed" answer, comments?

Rocket seems to have discovered Valve time.

dayzmod.com - Aug 2012 - Q&A with Rocket
Joe Duck replied to Max Planck's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Ok, i have some questions, but I am not hoping for many answers, it is too soon. Q: Is DayZ standalone going to be a BIS published game? Q: Is DayZ standalone going to be distributed online at BIS website or is DayZ going to be a spinoff with it's own full identity and maybe a separate studio? Q: Do you expect or even want to release DayZ on Steam/GOG/Desura/Origin/Amazon? Q: Project Zomboid and Minecraft have already had huge problems selling Minecraft development type games with VISA and Paypal, as people was paying for an unfinished product. Have you worked this out yet? Q: Do you already have a name for DayZ standalone? Other than DayZ Standalone, that is... Q: I keep throwing money at my screen but it won't take it. When? Q: How many people is working in the standalone atm? Not testing, but coding and such. Q: Do you still expect servers to be fan hosted in DayZ Standalone? -
I lost all my equipment in a respawn in the debug plains. When I got back on the beach, I went to see if my pickup truck was still where I had saved it. Of course, it was not. I know, I know. Alpha and all that. But I am sad...

The Vipera Berus is widespread in central and Eastern Europe, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vipera_berus I know, it has been suggested before, but I thought that this idea deserves a small bump. Having a small number of snakes roam around the forests would make things much more tense. Even if we never find them, just knowing that they are there would make it much, much, much more scary. Specially at night. Also, it is in line with the general guidelines of the mod, realism, nature, a strong sense of place and no compassion with the players.

Ambulance Spawns and/or 2-3 More Hospitals.
Joe Duck replied to Ctrl-Alt-Rage's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The ambulance idea is very good, but please, one one per server and very, very rare. I do disagree with the new hospitals though, the whole resource structure in Chernarus is very carefully thought out to keep you moving. You have weapons in the North and food and medicals in the South and it is done on purpose. -
I like the idea of needing some kind of tool to kill yourself instantly. If you do not have it, you could find a convenient cliff, a helpful zombie or a Samaritan bandit.
-
I meant random people, yes. Maybe you are right but that is the beauty of DayZ...

I am going to reproduce an idea that someone posted in a RPS DayZ thread, I thought it had some merit in it's simplicity. You could sometimes spawn small groups of survivors (say 3) together in one place. Still unarmed, still vulnerable and still free to cooperate or not. I think that would create some nice possibilities and it is not unrealistic or limiting. If they split, fine. If they don't, awesome. EDIT: I do not mean friends, I mean random people. You'd actually not know beforehand if you were going to spawn alone or not or who with.

I just want to make a call for simplification of the server situation at the moment. It is a mess, there are servers that require 1.7.5, others 1.7.4 or even 1.6. Some like old betas and others want the latest version. There even are closed servers or servers that kick you out after 5 minutes... If you start to combine those factors, you get a picture where there is a huge list of servers, yes. But the number of servers that use the actual latest patch and beta is much lower. Of course, those servers are very full. Is there any way to have convergence so that a majority of servers can be connected to? I understand that we are in alpha and that servers are provided by the community, but I think it would benefit everyone if the vast majority of servers were at the same level of patch/beta and that coincided with SixUpdater levels.

I think it is an awesome idea if correctly implemented! With the proper animations, your character could start getting a progressively bigger "camping tent". At first, it would lead to really awkward silences in groups, nobody would talk about Bill's "little friend". However, as it just got bigger and bigger and Bill started to sweat more and more, things would eventually grow more unbearable. Of course, the genius thing is that Bill would be first to get into this because he's the player that has lasted longer, so he probably has also the best weapons. Nobody would want to piss off Bill. And when finally Bill starts getting twitchy hands that prevent him from aiming and sweat obscuring his vision, he'll demand help from "the guys". We totally need this.
