Last time I checked, this wasn't Battlefield. There is a point where you're wanting to play the game the way you want to, and then there is the point where you're suggesting something that would break the game, and make it less fun for the general player, simply because it defeats the purpose. DayZ would not be half as fun if you could just pick to spawn next to someone. It takes away from the actual encounters you have with other players, where each one should be unexpected for the most part. Not 'oh, hi buddy, you spawned back in?' So, no. There should never be a mechanic to influence your spawns beyond a randomly generated point. No friend spawns.

I would not object to an open world tutorial, though there should be a great deal of limitations to make the online version more fun. Such as limited loot spawns, you should only be able to find some basic food, water, maybe a pistol or two. But save the real fun of looting for the multiplayer. There's something satisfying about picking up a rifle when you know someone else might be just around the corner from you. As for the LAN connection thing, I'm not going to object to that either, but the items and such that you gain there should not carry over to a main hive server, just so we don't get a sudden huge influx of weapons and gear from people farming their LAN games for that exact reason.

Oh boy! Would the campaign end up with us destroying the earth from the moon? Because that would be just super. Sarcasm aside, I don't see why the inclusion of a single player mode would help the game in any way. It's not the zeds you come for, or at least it shouldn't be; it's the player interactions that make DayZ. The only inclusion of a single player mode that I could see would be a tutorial that shows you how to use the controls, gives a little background to the zed apocalypse, etc, etc. Basically a place where players can learn the basics without the fear of someone coming up and hatcheting them in the skull while they tried to figure out how the inventory worked.

seasons, and character customisation and a few more.
Riem replied to apache25's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Oh my god. His post is broken up into coherent sentences and there's a semblance of punctuation. The end is nigh! Anyway, as usual, though, your suggestions are all unoriginal and have been discussed, mostly at length. This also doesn't need to become a dog-breeding simulator. -
And how the ever living fuck are you even going to be able to identify what caliber the misshapen lump that is the bullet is, anyway? I wasn't aware all of our characters were trained in ballistic forensics!

No. Priest was a horrible movie. 'Based on the graphic novel series' my ass. Read Priest, the manga series. It's a terrific adventure into religion and revenge. On to the OP's suggestion. These are not zombies, they are infected people. They have lost all but primal instinct to whatever virus they are afflicted with, and would not be capable, or have a need, of running a community. It does not fit DayZ in the slightest. So a thousand times, no.

I have a chatango room set up for anyone wanting to chat about DayZ and such, was thinking of making it before, your suggestion decided it. Chat is here! But an on-site chat would be a pain for everyone involved. Lag and likely the admins would have several rage spasms. Anywho. Chat ahoy, or maybe? Something?

I have a suggestion. Survivor class. Starts with 100% normal health, 100% movement speed. Has a tactical vest and ball cap in a variety of colors. Starting equipment is a small backpack, a flashlight, bandages, and some pills. That is all.

You must be new here.

Judas Priest, have you ever heard of the 'edit button'?

Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
Riem replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Smoking should merely be that in game, smoking. It lets you look cool, and if you have the ability to offer a smoke to another player, would be a neat way of showing you're a somewhat friendly player. -
Suggestions to make DayZ more fun, and less boring.
Riem replied to theg481's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
To the silly little thing that appeared for a few brief moments above, mods, I'd have done that as well. To the OP. Depending on how these events and such are handled, such as how taking over areas is represented, etc, this could be a good suggestion. I'd like to see a map that gets constantly updated every time something like that happened, and you'd be able to mark it down upon the map should you find something new. -
You've missed the point. It's not about being a carebear or not. It's about how people are only shooting fresh spawns to increase a stat, instead of focusing on survival. A stat that does nothing, and is the equivalent of an Xbox Gamerscore.

I do think I saw it mentioned in the suggestions forum that they were looking at implementing basic ragdoll for the ToH engine. And yes, the lack of the fly buzzing noise should be a tip off, but we'd need to have some kind of way to make sure that all bodies don't immediately start having flies buzz around them. It's unrealistic, and if you're not sure you've killed someone, hearing that noise reassures you in a gamey fashion.

Game Style Differntiation - more clear. Making your Character - unique.
Riem replied to trexeth's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This is not what DayZ is about. You should never be able to 'roll' your character for what you want to do with it. Everyone has an even playing field because no one has anything everyone else cannot obtain themselves. I'm not against customization, no, but I do not want to see the ability to change your character's body to give different effects. The clothing is a minor issue, and should just be rectified by the ability to make/find new sets. -
That is just about the worst example you can bring here, barring WarZ. And just for clarity, it really depends on the type of 9mm you're using. Using a hollowpoint? That high velocity round will shred through the human body like so much meat. Using a full metal jacket? You'll just have the round drill a neat hole through the wet.

It would be churlish for me to merely dismiss your entire grouping of suggestions merely because you stated you have posted nothing original. So I read on, in the hope, which was apparently vain, that you had something workable and original. I was disappointed, so I detailed what was disappointing. Your post was bland. It stated nothing new at all, nothing I'd not read, anyway, and had no substantiating of your opinions beyond your own ponderous puffing smoke. No details as to what could be fixed, no details as to what you were wanting to suggest. I'm talking specifics here, not the broad idea itself. You reacted to honest criticism with an overly sensitive air, have horrid spelling and grammar, and have done nothing more than give me the outlet in which to flex my fingers. Good day.

Boomerang Sniper Detection System?
Riem replied to skippythrmoontock's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I have a boomerang, when I throw it is it going to fly out and hit a sniper in the face so I can tell where he is, with the small bonus of it coming back to me, and also striking the offensive gunman for some minor bruising? -
I'd like to see oil filter suppressors, pop bottle suppressors, and other such less effective solutions. Hell. I'd find it funny if I could carry around a pillow for the sole purpose of sticking a gun into it and firing away. The stuffing that would fly.

I consider all suggestions that should be paid attention to for the Standalone. The mod needs and is taking a backburner to the SA version, as it should be. I can't throw my money at the screen fast enough for it. But, let's wade into these, shall we? First, I want to put out how I dislike how you willingly made a thread that contains content from other threads. You're rehashing several already talked about threads, and it's always better to put a spread of posts into existing ones, then create a new thread entirely. Anyway. Your first suggestion. Already talked about at length, implemented in some of the private hives. I approve of more things to wear. But this shouldn't have been mentioned, as it has been talked about more than enough. Your humanity system suggestion. Again, this has been talked to death. This has no bearing on the Standalone, as we don't know if the humanity system will even be in it, and if it is, this isn't an important enough, or necessary, addition. I know you mentioned these suggestions were for the mod, but I'm going to put them in the context of the standalone anyway, because the mod won't be seeing some love for a while. This improves nothing at all, except making a pointless choice at the beginning of your spawn. It is the same concept as the already existing system, and does nothing to help it or expand its flaws. I can easily just pick survivor, or bandit, and do the opposite actions to get to the other side of the spectrum, with no bonus or deficit to my gameplay. As Fraggle pointed out so succinctly, it's not just survivor vs bandit. Play a different game if you want to pick sides. DayZ is about how you want to play, whether that means shaking the remains of some poor sap off his rucksack, or skulking about quietly while you loot your necessities from buildings. As it is, the humanity system is flawed, as already mentioned. If you shoot someone who is shooting at you, but hasn't hit you, the game cannot discern the difference, and you lose humanity. There is nothing to be gained from making players have an arbitrary choice. Your zed suggestion. Once more, the zeds have been discussed and we all want them to be leaner, meaner, scarier, lumbering infected beings of death and destruction. You didn't put down what's wrong with them, what could be fixed on them so they're harder. So that whole big paragraph is your opinion and not a suggestion other than 'hey, make this harder.' I don't agree with you on an infected zed killing you with one swing of its arm. That's not realistic by any means, unless the thing hits you in the neck or a vital area hard enough to do so. Bites aren't going to kill you, not from infection at least. Scratches, bruises, broken bones, ditto. And the debug menu is a server option, so I thought. And I haven't played with it in ages. Before you respond to this, note that I don't particularly care for your suggestion, but I'm free to do so, and you responding like you have towards James up there won't end well for you, and most people who read you defending your position like a whiny, enraged teenager isn't going to help anyone view your post in a positive light. Also, please, for our sanity and so I can spend time giving my two bits on more original and constructive threads, use the search function, badly tagged as the majority of these threads are, and post in older, relevant threads. And please. Add details to your suggestions. They are bland and come across as 'add x to the mod because y' -Riem.

Huh. Misread that. Anywho, I don't see why you would cut down the stock of a shotgun, unless you want it to be strictly a pistol grip, if it has one. As an added note, it would be neat to be able to reinforce the stocks on some guns so that it would hold up more to using it in a melee aspect, busting locks on doors, etc. I know some shotguns have a lengthened metal portion under the barrel so it can be used as a sort of breaching ram.
-
Sawing off the end of a shotgun would cut out the choke at the end. The shotgun's spread would be affected, as would the range and accuracy, due to not having the pressure stabilization that a longer barrel would afford you for slugs.
-
Just imagine the Heavy saying 'Not big surprise' every time you die. Maybe even put his face in the corner.
-
It would be possible to attach scopes to different guns. But you're not going to hit your target with it, until you've adjusted the thing. And the game should involve you having to do so. I am against making anything beyond simple modifications for weapons, For instance, you're not going to have the technical knowhow to make your own underslung grenade launcher. I could see small straps set on the sides of shotguns for extra shells, holes bored into the solid stocks of rifles to hold extra bullets upon the gun itself, instead of taking up inventory space. See my thread in my sig for that. Making a suppressor is fairly difficult though. You need precise machinery and you have to know what you're doing. It's possible, I won't say it isn't, but it would be fairly unrealistic for every random survivor to be able to make one.

Lets not make bandits worse, lets make heroes better.
Riem replied to Agiantstick's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I say we let Rocket get the standalone out and running, get the first round of bug fixes and exploits tightened up, then take a look at how the game plays, and make adjustments to the humanity system, and what small benefits each playstyle can net you. OP's suggestion isn't wholly bad, though I am against any player, no matter how much of a bandit or hero they are, having really any kind of detriment or benefit over anyone else. The zeds are going to be harder and it's going to be harder to survive, with the changes I'm seeing the standalone confirmed to have. So people running around with a bandit skin on, as that in my opinion should be the only difference, are putting on a bigger "I'll kill you if you don't shoot me first" sign, than ever before.
