    All servers on night?

    For those cranking up your gamma and brightness at night and not seeing any difference, make sure you have clouds enabled (very low to very high, doesn't matter). If you don't, gamma and brightness settings won't do anything at night. With clouds enabled, you can gamma the crap out of your game and see at night, but man it looks like garbage. This works on my computer at least, your mileage may vary.

    How to Blood Bag myself

    You can't. You need someone else to use it on you. You can not blood bag yourself.

    All the 1st ranters

    Played for a couple hours on a FP only server. It IS awesome, for me it was about a thousand times more intense. I loved it. Well, I ALMOST loved it. I WANTED to love it. But the controls... I get the inherent clunkiness that's been present in the ARMA series where your motions are meant to carry weight and heft and momentum etc., I rather like it, but I'll be damned if I could get my settings for controlling my mouse to behave in a consistent and rational way. I spent an hour messing with every setting I could in game, in Windows and in my mouse's driver set, but I just could not find any configuration that made playing in first-person enjoyable for me. I'm sad about that, I really am.

    My character is still being DELETED!

    I've taken to sticking to GameServers.com servers only. Whenever I try a server hosted by a different company, I inevitably lose my character. I have yet to lose my character sticking to GameServers.com hosted servers, and that's after over a week of playing (a lot). That's my experience, at least.

    Should I invest my time in 1st Person Servers?

    Dafuq is wrong with you guys? We have both types of servers now, why aren't you all happy enjoying your preferred play style? And why is everyone who doesn't prefer your play style a 'scrub', 'shithead', or 'the type of player you wouldn't want to play with anyway'? I play almost exclusively 3rd person, but was excited to hear they were offering first person servers because I knew a lot of our community was clamoring for it and they'd be excited about it. And now that everyone's gotten what they want, you're all still at each other's throats.

    FNX45 = More Accurate then M4A1?

    What about the condition of the weapon itself? Hicks confirmed firearms have conditions, we just can't see it in the mouse over popup thanks to a bug. Maybe that "hidden" value has a huge impact on accuracy, considering it covers the receiver and the barrel. He mentioned this in a live streamer's chat a couple of nights ago, I just can't find the screen cap for the life of me, sorry (he mentioned firearms have condition, but not how it effects the gun's performance).

    Dont get too carried away

    Hell, I'm only hoping for a more polished version of what we have in the mod. Anything else at release or added down the road will be icing on the cake for me personally.

    How to hide a camp?

    My tip is don't go overboard trying to snuggle your tents in between trees. I've crammed a few balls-deep in clumps of pines, with only a pixel or two you can place your cursor over to access it, thinking 'Wow, not only is this tent almost invisible, but even if they find it they probably won't even be able to access it before getting frustrated and leaving!' Then the server restarts and when the trees are redrawn, my tent ends up clipped in a pine and becomes completely inaccessible.
  9. Hey guys, let me start by saying I do not really now a whole lot about the really technical side of computer components, or a lot about modern components (the first and only PC I built from scratch was back when the Radeion 9700 was king of the hill). That's why I need your help. Motherboard: MA785R (link to specs http://www.findlaptopdriver.com/specs-ma785r-mb-dell/) CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 250 (3.0 Ghz) Video: Radeon HD7750 RAM: 8 GB Now this is a Dell Inspiron that I slapped some extra RAM and video card into when I decided I wanted to get back into gaming. It works well enough. DayZ runs... decently... on mid settings, and is 'playable' (20 FPS at best) on higher settings, but I really bog down big time around anywhere with buildings. I've also just been accepted into the Planetside 2 beta, and the game runs well enough at most times, but definitely bogs around 20 FPS or worse when I hit a busy spot. I know my hardware isn't anywhere near top of the line, and honestly I expect this sort of performance, but I would like to get better performance on mid to mid-high settings in modern games. I'm NOT looking to be able to turn everything up to ultra with 80 FPS, but I'd like to approach a consistent 40-60 on more reasonable settings if possible without breaking the bank. And like I said, I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to hardware these days, that's why I need your help. Is my video card good enough, or should I consider replacing it and the power supply? Is my CPU holding me back? And if so, the link next to my motherboard model number up above lists CPUs compatible with my board, which would be best? I appreciate ANY input (even if it's just telling me it's hopeless). I would try and figure this out alone, but damn the choices are overwhelming for someone with my knowledge base, heh. Again, thanks for your time!

    DayZ - The result after 4 month

    Russian is not a race.
  11. So I'm snooping about the northwest airfield, getting ready to log for the night, and decide to hit the southern barracks before I head for bed. As I approach through the trees, the first thing that SHOULD have alerted me were the infected... it didn't look like I had spawned them, they were too spread out. But I ignored it, and crept my way to the barracks door... which was closed. That got me suspicious, so I crept in and saw EVERY door in the place was closed. I opened one after the other slowly, expecting to catch a magazine of 7.62 in the chin each time, only to find the place was clear of players. And loot. I realized too late that someone had very recently emptied every loot spawn, and was very likely outside very close trying to cycle the spawns. Then I heard him, just outside, crouch running. So I did what I always do in the moment of action. I panicked. Having closed the entrance door on my way in, and went prone at the end of the hallway and put my sights right on the door. If he was coming in to kick me out, I'd hopefully have the jump. Unfortunately, like the dork I am, when I was shifting myself into the perfect firing line, I clicked my mouse and fired two shots at the door. If he didn't actually know I was in there before, well... SO. He knows someone's posted up in the barracks wrecking his loot cycling. Since he didn't come barreling in guns blazing, I assume he's tucked in the trees to the west covering the door with an M107, AS50 or atomic cannon. I assume I'm dead if I dare leave that door, and I believe he thinks the same if he tries to enter. Epic standoff time. Now I just wanted to go to bed, but I had to bungle my way into this mess, and now that I'm in a combat (more or less) situation, I can't log off until it's resolved. I had a lot of great gear, I wasn't interested in being killed, so I was determined to play defense. I would wait this guy out. So like the weenie I can be at times, I wait, covering the door like a boss. I mean, I could probably draw that door from memory at this point. Every grain and knot in the wood, every warp and distortion in the glass window. I'm gonna have nightmares about that door after staring at it for thirty minutes. Yeah, thirty minutes. Every couple of minutes I would hear what I took to be infected aggroing someone, so every time I dared hope the coast was clear and I could try to make a break for it, some zed would remind me that I wasn't alone. I didn't mention that it was night, so if my buddy outside did aggro an infected, he could very quickly ditch it and post back up on the door. Also, even though I had night vision goggles, looking out the windows in third person was next to useless as dude could have been buried in any one of the fifty million trees to the west. OK, I finally give up. Five more minutes then I'm logging. We've given one another more than enough time to aerate the other. Then it happens. My night vision flares. My whole screen is white/green. Did the server reset to daylight?! I turn off my goggles. The hallway is red. Road flare thrown outside. Uh oh, it's finally on. The flare was thrown outside, at my end of the barracks, so only my end was lit. With my goggles off, the doorway was pitch black. I turn the goggles back on, and most everything is washed out BUT I can barely make out the outline of the door. OK I say, he probably thinks he's completely blinded me (the fool!!!), but the instant that vague door outline changes, he's getting a mag of 5.56 burned in his chest. BRING IT O-oh wait, all of a sudden the door flares bright white. I can't make anything out, the door's outline is gone, replaced by... a small star? I'm blind. BANG BANG BANG. Dead. Not only did he wreck my night vision with the flare, but proceeded to shine a Remington's under-barrel flashlight through the door's window to ensure my uselessness. Well played sir, well played (I mean seriously, if that was you on US 1030, well done). I probably would have had a chance if I simply bolted like a mother out the door, but I fooled myself into thinking being backed up in a dead end with no way out was a sound tactical position. Egg on my face. Yeah, this was a story about me sitting around like a jerk for thirty minutes not actually doing... anything... but it was really tense and nerve wracking to be involved in. Lost a set of night vision goggles, rangefinder, ghillie suite, AS50, GPS, blah blah. Basically everything you'd hope to find. I know people say not to become attached to your gear, but to heck with that. Adds more to the game when I really don't want to die and yet still push myself into risky situations. Now it's time to get attached to my bandage and box of painkillers once again. Anyways, really love this game and it's brutal, unforgiving sandbox. Can't wait for the standalone!
