What do we expect from DayZ Standalone?
hunterhalloo@hotmail.com replied to TGH's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
I like your ideas Mr TGH, especialy the one's with the random zombie hoardes, the melee part and making most buildings enterable. I do not dislike any of your suggestions at all, i'll say the same thing i said in another topic (i think you made that one as well). There needs to be a quiver for bolts and arrows (if bows are put into the standalone) And there also needs to be some kind of poison coating that you can find or make, to put on your projectiles. High end gear such as AS-50's, L85's with thermal and other extremely high powered weaponry needs to become much MUCH rarer, if not removed entirely. Hunting rifles, pistols and shotguns i can understand, hell even molotov cocktails.. But not anti-tank weaponry. Despite the fact that most military bases in the world has some great weaponry, i highly doubt that they would have their things open to the public. A suggestion I forgot to add in another post i made was to perhaps introduce an Armory building at military bases, which would be locked and contain SOME good weapons, but not all of them. The loot would naturaly be random (like weapon spawns are right now). And to open the armory door you would have to blast it open (with rare spawned explosives). Or perhaps use a weld to smelt through the door, or some such. The part where you said you wish vehicles to be more common, but fuel much more rare i sorta agree with. More interesting / dangerous wildlife i can also agree on. Seeing as, if high end military gear is made more rare (snipers for example) then the only thing you'll really have to worry about is to stay in cover. Bears, wolves, mountain lions, etc.. If you get wounded, and they could track you, you would think twice about just running through a forest. You'd constantly be stopping and looking around yourself as you hear soft footsteps or see animal prints on the ground and think "maybe i should take my chances with the zombies.." I'd write more ideas or suggestions, but the last thing i'll say is, I friggin hope the hacker problem will be solved in the standalone.. I REALLY hope it will be. -
Quiver for bolts? [Questions]
hunterhalloo@hotmail.com replied to Elv3z's topic in New Player Discussion
Hi Elv3z i will try to answer your questions :P 1: Im not certain about an easier way of finding each other in this game. It becomes easier and easier to know where You are personaly the more you play. The more you play, the more landmarks you'll start to recognize (such as radio towers outside of cities). Try to pick a spot where you want to find each other based on a landmark you remember. Or if one of you have a map, ask your friend where he is (he can see where he is when he connects to the game for 3 seconds at the bottom right of his screen). If neither of you have a map, use an online map through google or some such to decide a spot to meet up at. 2: Im afraid there is no quiver for bolts in this game, (i heard it will be in the standalone of Dayz). As such the crossbow is considered quite.. useless, because of how much room the bolts take up. The bolts are recoverable though, and if you have impeccable aim (you hit everyone, everything all the time without any problem at all( you can recover the bolt. Unless your target falls onto the bolt itself. I'd personaly take a double barrelled shotgun, rifle or hell.. Even a melee weapon over a crossbow due to its low amount of damage. Its a great challenge weapon though. If you ever want a challenge in this game, try to sneak up on a player and shoot him in the head with a crossbow. :D 3: You can find a bigger backpack pretty much anywhere, but the most common place to find larger backpacks are at the supermarkets in cities. You can also try Northwest airfield, Northeast airfield or random shacks in town's. (i've found an alice pack in supermarkets, shacks near the harbor and so on) Hope you have a lot of fun playing Dayz ^^ be on the lookout for crashed helicopters on the ground! They're rare but can give you some neat loot! -
Not how I wanted my first player contact to go....

No need to apologize for killing a bandit, there's no way to know wether he was a friendly bandit or a hostile one. Unless he used voice communication and said "friendly", but even then he might've just wanted to take your stuff. Just be careful if you kill people without a bandit skin by accident or on purpose, because you'll get a bandit skin then and end up getting shot by everyone on sight, cause they'll know you're a killer then. -
40 min into my first ever game of dayz
hunterhalloo@hotmail.com replied to AMF3's topic in New Player Discussion
You mostly find food in houses (not barns or military hangars, dunno about churches though!) remember that ^^ If you dont want to blast zombies, you dont have to. They're easy to get rid of by running past bushes (its their worst enemy!). Or you could lead them into a building and take them out easier in there, if you have a weapon that is. Zombies can only walk inside of buildings. Hope you have fun learning everything about what Dayz is :D -
What do we expect from DayZ Standalone?
hunterhalloo@hotmail.com replied to TGH's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What I expect (or rather hope) is that big weapons like snipers, rifles, machine guns and all in all, military grade loot wont be as common. Pistols are one thing, they're not as strong as a rifle or machine gun, yet strong enough to give you a fighting chance. I hope that bows, crossbows and melee weapons will be a lot more common and be the most used items in the game, due to increased rarity amongst the military weapons. I hope the underground bases that you'll be able to make can be camoflagued (sorry if i spelled camoflague wrong) and that you can place thing's you have looted there (a chest for loot maybe?) And i would love it if you could customize your own weapons by finding parts in cities, houses, barns and military areas. What sort of customization? Nothing ludicrous like turning a shotgun into a bazooka that fires forks and pickles! Just something normal like changing the paint or adding a recoil absorbation stock to your firearms. Or being able to poison your arrows and bolts to make them more deadly towards animals and survivors. Hope my wall of text didn't cause your eyes to strain too much ^^ -
Over the past two days of playing only nighttime servers I've found 3 M4A1 CCO SD. An FN-FAL AN/PVS-4, two regular FN-FAL's and 8 FN-FAL mag's at crash sites. Two M107's and over 12 mag's at heli crash sites and looting the barracks. A Ghillie suit. And some big weapon i cant seem to remember the name of.. uh.. M240.. or some such i think it was called. The 100 mag sized one? Ah well, never the less i give you my Good luck with trading the weapons you've found for some goodies!

HELP ME PLEASE!!!
hunterhalloo@hotmail.com replied to Bonn (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Bonn, did you update everything? If you're using Dayz commander update Arma 2, Dayz commander and Dayz. If you're using Dayz commander these options are under Install/update. I wasn't able to play Dayz for two weeks until i found out i had to run my Steam bought Arma 2 and arma 2 CO as Administrator. Also, if you are using Dayz commander, let the entire list of servers load up first or you might end up spawning somewhere odd, like in the Debug plains and such. The same thing can happen if you join a server that has a different update version than you do. If you somehow manage to get into a server, once you get to the screen that shows the amount of players that are on that server and which player number you are, dont "connect" instantly, look at your bottom left corner first at the blue text and see if it says something about BattlEye updating or some such. Wait for that vital update to say "finished" before you connect to the server. If you're not using Dayz commander, i have no clue what else you can do. Anyone else who knows a bit more about BattlEye initialization failures? Sorry if my post wasn't any help. -
Bad serial number given in setup (Only on one computer!)
hunterhalloo@hotmail.com replied to jaketherake's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I had a somewhat similar problem when i first purchased arma 2 and arma 2 OA. Not sure if this is the same issue you're having but, for me it got fixed by running Steam as administrator. Started up steam as Administrator, started Arma 2, closed it after it worked, started Arma 2 CO, then Arma 2 OA. Its been working for me ever since then. Hope this helps, if its the same issue! -
Very interesting idea! It would also make it a bit harder for people with the intention to lie on the ground sniping anything they see, think twice about where they lie down. I just hope they wont be zombie animals.. imagine running into a friggin zombie bear or pack of wolves and they can only be killed with a headshot. If they ARE zombie animals, i think i'd rather take my chances running through major cities, despite the risk of being shot from any building or hill.. You have my beans!

How do you approach other players?
hunterhalloo@hotmail.com replied to WarpNinja's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've died a lot to players that i was attempting to figure out if they are friendly or not. So i dont really stay friendly anymore to anyone, unless they drop their gun within 10 seconds, without turning towards my voice when using direct communication. Despite using my mic and giving them directions on how to get on my good side, i've most often ended up getting shot at, rather than gaining an ally. I have a strict policy about snipers in general as well. No mercy. I have never encountered a sniper that did what I asked, nor even attempted to act friendly. They just shoot you on sight if they see you from a distance, near their position or if you even look at them from a distance. The only person i've spared from my policy of "talk to the gun" or "aim at me, i shoot you" was an adorable new player outside of cherno. I had just found a motorbike, refueled it and had gone around looting crashed heli's for two hours. I came outside of one of the restourant loot places in cherno, hopped on my motorbike and went to loot some food in another area. Along the way, i spot an unarmed player, bleeding, constantly collapsing from low blood. So i stop, patch him up, give him blood, put my PDW and three G17 mags in the motorbike, and tell him he can have it, along with the motorbike. The motorbike also had a jerry can in it, with fuel. As much as i'd like to be a hero that goes around transfusing blood, giving weapons and vehicles to unarmed / low geared players, i fear that any player that has played for a few weeks, knows that killing on sight is the most used strategy. So next time i see that lovely guy i gave some stuff to, i have a feeling he wont be satisfied with A weapon or a vehicle. He'll probably shoot me on sight, even if he recognizes my voice. Anyhow, thats how i tend to do things, despite only having played the game for a month (since september). I'll help people if they need something, but i wont trust them unless they're unarmed when i first meet them. -
New player, always running into snipers.
hunterhalloo@hotmail.com posted a topic in New Player Discussion
So yeah, i'm a new player having some difficulty with Dayz, mostly with snipers. I started playing the game two days ago, on my first "life" i did the best out of all my "lifetimes" in the game so far. On my first life i run around a small city and find a tiny storage room with 5 ACP mags and a revolver, im excited as hell by this! Then i look in another corner of the storage area and find an AKM with two mags, some food and drinks in another building and im set to go! 5 minutes later i've run through a forest and i hide behind a bunch of rocks and tree's due to my water level getting low, and i thought i was safe. But NOPE, my character suddenly falls down for no reason and three seconds later i hear a very loud sniper shot from afar (over a thousand meters away perhaps..?) And my story ends there. Second life i get, i barely spawn and run 10 meters, then BOOM! Same type of scenario happens, my char drops dead, two seconds later i hear a really loud sniper shot from afar. Third life i manage to get to a tiny town, find a hatchet and i try to find a barn for a shotgun or pistol. I find a barn, i find a double barreled shotgun and... BOOM! I hear something going through the walls in the barn (five shots) and i drop dead. Fourth life (i took a break and began playing at nighttime instead at this point due to frustration of snipers). On my fourth life i get really lucky, i find a military base with no one around, i find lots of different ammo, food, water bottles and finally an M4 or what it was called lying in a corner, then BOOM! Headshot. My problem is that, no matter where i go, no matter what time it is on the servers I always run into snipers that shoot me wether im armed or not. I have no issue with zombies since i know how to lose them easily, i use my backpack to its fullest extent, and i generaly stay away from the largest cities and military areas. So, any advice as to how i can avoid getting killed every 5 minutes by snipers? So far i've died 6 times in the game i believe, 5 times to snipers and 1 time to getting barbed wired inside of a staircase by some guy in a ghillie suit (couldn't get over the wire on the stairs and i went head first into a wall, broke my legs and went into shock and died from bleeding out.) And no, before you ask i couldn't take another exit in the stairs where i got blocked in, due to being unarmed and having 5 zombies coming up behind me. -
explosive tip bolts
hunterhalloo@hotmail.com replied to Langya Bushwookie's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Explosive bolts sounds a bit too Rambo.. Poisonous bolts though that drain 1-2k hp over the course of a minute or two (or over a longer period of time) sounds pretty normal if it came to the realistic part of the game. -

Thanks for all of the advice people! Im gonna start practicing on not being too predictable with my movement and try to be mindful of my surroundings. This game has so many different tactics, but i think i enjoy the stealthy approach the most. I've played all Metal gear games and i always love sneaking around scaring people or surprising them there (i know dayz is REALLY different, but hey.. Im working on impersonating Solid snakes voice so i can spook the crap out of players through my Microphone xD) Well then, today im gonna try to implement all of the advice i've been given by you awesome players and see how it goes! Again, thanks for the advice i've been given! -
How long do you live in your first lives?
hunterhalloo@hotmail.com replied to Lewf's topic in New Player Discussion
My first spawn i lived for over an hour, spawning near a small city (cant remember the name of it though). I knew nothing about the game, so i crawled and crawled and crawled for 40 minutes until i reached a storage building with a tower on it. Looted my first weapons in there (a revolver with 5 Mags and an AKM with two mags). I tested out my weapons on zombies that were coming up the tower's stairs, then ran off into the forests. After running for 5 minutes or so, i ran behind a bunch of trees and crouched down behind a large rock to take a drink. Then BOOM! Loud sniper shot and i was dead. Was fun while it lasted i suppose. -
New player, always running into snipers.
hunterhalloo@hotmail.com replied to hunterhalloo@hotmail.com's topic in New Player Discussion
Honestly i dont have any massive rage issues when it comes to being sniped anywhere, at any time, by anyone etc.. If you read what i said about my FIRST life, i actualy got some good gear seeing as im a noob. But when i actualy got shot by the sniper, i just instantly froze, thinking to myself "well..... That sucked. Oh well, guess i'll respawn." And so i did, this time when i got sniped after only crawling 10 meters i got a tiny bit angry seeing as i spawned near a harbor and i knew from videos on youtube that you could find lots of goodies inside. I do like Dayz though, despite all the hacking, snipers, hostage takers, clans running around killing noobs for fun.. I only wish i could find a weapon at all, without instantly being targeted down by people that are over 700 meters away from me. Ahh yes, another minor question if its not too much of a bother. Should i move quickly around towns / cities to avoid snipers, even if it means alerting half the zombie population in Dayz and i have no weapon? -

hunterhalloo@hotmail.com replied to hunterhalloo@hotmail.com's topic in New Player Discussion
Alright, i'll try to be a bit more unpredictable when im running around. And also keep in my mind that no matter where i am, i should always anticipate that at least ONE sniper has his or her aim at my head. Thank you all for the advice! I still dont understand how the sniper who shot me through the barn walls managed to do that though.. Is that something you can do with ANY sniper in the game? Because it sounded quite a bit different from an AS50 shot.
