New forum address/server after standalone release?
birdman posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Out of curiosity will the forum change addresses (migrate servers) to http://dayz.com/forum or will it stay http://dayzmod.com/forum? Alternatively will both link to the same server? I attempted to follow the first link but the internet is shit in Afghanistan and I timed out. They run monitoring software trunked in Kuwait and it boggs everything down. -

I wondered only because the mod has ceased and the standalone is coming out. And it won't be called dayzmod anymore. -

Actually you misspelled the last "suggestion" in the title so Rocket might miss the whole thread. :( -

Otherwise you shall be known as. . . "apache25"! -
Look up Thermite Grenades. Sabotage away.

The history channel gives it fifty years until the orbital degredation of satellites turns into chaos and shrouds Earth with debris. http://youtu.be/oJ-ERf_zlMU

Only if it is only about 50% secure and can still be "broken in to" in your absence. There should be no secure storage areas.

Dude. . . Satellites (birds) require fuel to point themselves at their earth terminals and to aim the solar panels towards the sun via thrusters, and they require power to upconvert and rebroadcast signals. Signals don't just "bounce" off satellites. Sure the birds will be up there until their orbit degrades but they will just be floating hunks of iron. All Military birds are given commands by their earth stations for all of these adjustments and cannot function without people. Solar wind alone will cause most of these birds to tumble after people are gone. To be fair, weather satellites like SOAR will continue to broadcast to earth for decades but you would have to reprogram them to broadcast any other information but weather data.. The power cells can last for a long time but some satellites go into hibernation, flip in orbit, close up and wait for signals from Earth to end hibernation. You may find some satellites working for ten years after the apocalypse, but they are broadcasting "dumb" and once they go, that's it.

Cancer.

Or just a bandolier that is standard issue in the army. Can hold six extra M4 mags and you drape it over your body like a satchel.

Like the cross-shouldered or belt bandolier, old west style? I like it. http://www.northwestshootersupply.com/images/products/detail/large_441_asbs2.jpg

Agreed but we would need more back story to know how long the world has been in chaos and without resupply. Otherwise if the apocalypse happened five years ago people would have been borrowing parts and syphoning gas the whole time.

And where would the replacement engines come from? The "Engine Fairy"? In your face! :D

Touche. I now have something new to complain about! EDIT: Canned food will be around for a while, just hoarded.

this game is revolutionary - however, a suggestion (maybe temp fix for arma2 alpha mod as opposed to standalone)

Ok, but where do you find gas if it has been a year since the refueling trucks have run? Wouldn't the gas stations have been syphoned long ago?

Military vehicles aren't tracked. They have tons of radios and a xxxxx system that allows them to communicate via satellite over a "GPS" style map and offers real time positioning. However if the system is turned off you can't get real time positioning. Also the system currently requires a crypto key once a month to encrypt data or it can't be read by the vehicles role members. <---- Seven years SATCOM in the military. Now I feel like a dick. . .

Deployed =[ I'll catch you when I get back!

Choose: A. I hope you are not an english teacher. B. Leave that out of the parent teacher conference. C. Awesome. D. Can I have some of that shit you're drinking?

Only if Rambo is my starting skin. EDIT: Chuck Norris.

Lojack is the most popular but it sends out radio signals (chirps) not a satellite signal. To communicate with the satellite your tracker needs a gps antenna to broadcast a signal 22,000 miles into space which requires a good deal of power also (and is visible on the car). Realize that the satellite in orbit sends out signals but they are positioning and time, not usually messages. The satellite would have to be reprogrammed to send out the location of vehicles. Sorry if this sounds like trolling. Maybe make it where you can acquire a radio and track the car via the chirp signals? <---- Seven years of satellite communications. EDIT: GPS satellites are 6 to 12,000 miles, my bad.
