  1. AK's everywhere, probably at every household. I was referring to the apocalypse in general (in America -as that's where I hail from), as I've never been to a make believe city. So say, Moison-Naggant's, AK's, Mausers, Rugers, etc. . .
  2. One line rocket answer thread (quoted from another thread) 34. Q: Do you feel that the presence of very high level weapons and equipment, like L85 with thermal optics, M107, nightvision, and so on, are in adequation with the authenticity of a Survival, Post-apocalyptic game? A: Nope, they are not. but there was not many other options as ArmA2 is a military simulator. For the standalone, we are working on others but these won't be required to be finished for the standalone to be release, in other words the new weapons (more like what you would find at home) will be available as they get done, some of which may be when Alpha is released, rest of them will be next year as they get made. I think successfully raiding and finding military caches will be important, and will give you advanced items - but (i know from personal experience) maintaining this equipment is not easy. Durability, batteries, etc... will even these problems out I think. I agree with de-militarization. Where the fuck would you find a L1152/3, L85 LSW, G36A, MK12 Spr. . .? Give me an AR-15, civilian variant of a military M4.
  3. The point is to play in an open world, do whatever you want, test your wits, be pushed to your brink and be rewarded for your cunning (or crushed for your stupidity). Then die and do it all over again in a totally new way. The game is not supposed to end, you could die at any moment, forever. (Your grammar sucks :D )

    Thug life in this bitch

Sure. Of course this is supposed to be the apocalyse. No one gives a fuck if you've got "swag". We will see if we can open a McDonalds for you to cook fries at as well.

    WIND

From another post about mist. http://www.youtube.com/embed/_41gZx09KVI The wind effect sets a great mood. Being out in the forest at night with zombies can be scary. Throw in a great aural soundtrack of wind, and rain, thunder, etc. . . Wow. However, I'm pretty sure I read on the "rocket answers. . ." thread that the weather is the one thing that won't be custom.

    Churches & Repentance

To quote from the "rocket said. . . " post. I believe this is absolutely in context. "Whatever the system, I think the golden rule is that it should support the way you want to play with your character, not make any kind of judgement or anything, and not force you to play a particular way . . ." That being said, I'm Christian, but no game needs to make anyone accept any religious ethos, practice or tradition. You see gods in God of War because it is about those the greek dieties. This zombie "game" has nothing to do with religion. It is about survival, whether team oriented or solo, against an infected enemy who has no morals and a community free to act as they please outside of the social norms of the "real world". Pray on top of your keyboard if you want, don't tell a player his humanity can't recede unless he humbles himself to a higher power that he may or may not believe in. If you force a player-character to pray you ask for a front page Yahoo! article on how this game is forcing religion on our kids. It is not worth the fight. I would rather dissapear in this game for a few glorious hours of fantasy and worry about my everlasting soul, work and my bills when I come out. How else can this be stressed?

    Friend Sacrifice?☠

I think I see what you're getting at. It all goes along with "smarter" zeds. That is in the works.

    Friend Sacrifice?☠

This is a play style suggestion not a gameplay improvement. EDIT: And you can do this now. . . EDIT: Never mind, I see what you did there.

    Churches & Repentance

It shouldn't be locked, it should be ignored. I don't want to be forced to do often what I don't do on Sunday. 90% of people in the world belive in A God, why only ask for forgivness from only the Christian one as opposed to none at all? That way the devs can avoid the ACLU. (be honest and pragmatic)

    More ambient tracks possible?

I was in the process of making a new suggestion when I checked the search! Any possibility of a "jukebox" or custom playlist in the standalone. I don't mean a jukebox in a Cherno bar, I'm referring to the 15+ hours a week I'll be playing and the ability to throw some tracks in for those 5k walks to my destination. This as opposed to Alt-Tab and hitting up WMP that may or may not step on in game audio and ruin the atmosphere you build with marathon gaming. I don't expect the standalone to have a whole catalog of mood tracks and this could solve some monotony. Plus it's less expensive than recording tons of tracks for the standalone. Besides I would miss my iPod after Z-Day. :( "They Are Night Zombies!! They Are Neighbors!! They Have Come Back from the Dead!! Ahhhh!" - Sufjan Stevens Ambiance, anyone?

    Punishment on death revisited

Sure. Since I'm married with kids and work full time 12 hours is about a week of playing for me.

    Punishment on death revisited

How do you mark a n00b from a novice from and expert and so on; by time in the game world, number of kills, time since registration, etc? From a programming point of view.
  14. All servers have dates as well as time. Just program in four markers for the four seasons; 3/20, 6/20, 9/20 and 12/20. Have the game have unique weather patterns for each season via the marker. Most servers will sync with time.nist.gov so you can count on continuity throughout the hive as you move around(or make it a hive function!). That way if you want a permanent winter server the host can simply: 1. Disable weather. 2. Lock the date. 3. Change the date every time you reset the server.
  15. I understand completely. But do you want to sit next to a tree and take 2 to 3 minutes to load 3 mags of m4 in a video game/sim? EDIT: It would have to be instant or close to it to keep the kiddies interested. They have the attention span of cats.
  16. Sure. But it should take time. Anyone who has loaded an M16 mag knows it takes about a minute to put 30 rounds in a clip by hand (without zipper strips and a speed loader). In almost all video games it's like you have a pool of ammo and each clip instantly takes from it. Not realistic. Although, I think everyone would think it tedious after a while.

    General Hostage/Prisoner Situation Thread

Agreed. Say you can take someone down at extremely close range as opposed to killing them. You could loot them and keep your humanity (or whatever new system emerges).
  18. Think of it before flaming. If people were dropped off in a large world with no map it would be the easiest thing in the world to get lost and veture off to who knows were. If the spawns (one spawn) were random you would be completely unsure of your surroundings. You would wander the world with only the stars, sun and maybe a compass to guide you. It would take learned skill to orient yourself to your surroundings. But eventually you would learn. It may take months. You might be compelled to team up with a stranger just to learn about the land. But you would learn. The community would share. The towns, if not labled with names would come to have nicknames given to them by the community as people learn their surroundings. To find people on teamspeak you would have to talk them through orienteering to your location. "See the hill with construction site on the North side slope? I'm 1km West of that." etc. . . Eventually a database would come up with it's own interpretation of the map, but at least at first it would be confusing and scary as shit. You would have to survive by simply continuing to look for food. Some people would camp towns to stay in their comfort zone which still keeps some PvP alive but you would not always run into that town until you learn the land. A lot of people would be instantly turned off, but nothing screams survival more than this quick fix. I know that the map would leak but you would still have to orient yourself with the map to find out where you are. Maybe make the map available for download with the game with no town names just people trying to decifer them with their random spawn. Maybe make it a server option to disable map. Just a thought.
  19. birdman

    No map in the standalone?

But now you always start at the coast. Instant orientation. Must go along with a random spawn whether or not they disable or max out time on "respawns".
  20. birdman

    No map in the standalone?

A sexy alternative. But I would like to not have town names, at least the current ones, so that the community can come up with their own common names. For instance in Delta Force we had Murder Town and the Pit, in Tribes we had Space Station (all three with no real name). It would seem like more of a community bonding experience to come up with new names for towns after the apocalypse, and cool IMO. EDIT: Plus it would take a long time for each name to become part of the Day-Z lexicon.
  21. Spawn Suggestion: Map Orientated Spawns Always spawning on the coast brings the trolls. A suggestion to keep the bandit hoards and survivors happy; map orientated spawns. You don't have a map when you start and you have to work to get one. Until that time you continue to spawn on the coast and fight your way back to your previous locations. Bandits will target you still and it takes a lot of practice to get away clean, but the bandits will have their prey, until. . . Once a map is found you would then be able to choose your next (only) spawn location. However I am not simply talking about just picking a random location right in the middle of the military barracks. Only be able to choose: 1.A location you have visited 2.Your current location. If you are able to pick any place you have visited in the current life you are rewarded for your survivability. If you have to choose your current location it would be easier to implement. Simply scroll the mouse wheel and click current location on the map to make the programing easier. Note: -You can only do this once per life and can (cannot?) change it until you die. -It would only work with your map, if you give a map away you lose your spawn point. If they give it back they lose their spawn point and you have to visit that location again (no dupes). -For fairness the map would have to be lost if you die so that you can't set your spawn for a building, camp a building, loot your body if you die and rinse/repeat. Unless you stored an extra in your pack you would have to find another. So if someone were to go to the trouble of finding a plethora of maps they could troll that many times then go back to shore. Pros: -Bandits still have n00bs to troll until they can find a map and choose a location. -Survivors/explorers get rewarded with a solitary location to spawn and start again. Keep in mind they have to find a map again to reset the spawn. -Encourages having a team with a buddy that will hold a reserve map for you. -Great risk/reward system. -Not hard to program if you simply mark current location, harder if the server keeps track of where you have been. Cons: -Bandits will always set spawns next to high value military targets (but can only do it once =] ). -If looting Cherno you would have to remeber to reset spawn or risk teleporting to other side of map and losing your loot to your murderer. -Bandit teams will stockpile.

    Churches & Repentance

Having no "pray option" is the only thing that wouldn't offend anyone. And, worst of all, on a video game no one would feel bad in pulling the trigger, scrolling to "Pray for forgiveness" and then scanning for a new target. That would be too realistic for me.

    Weapon Attachments

    Not enough people tag posts.
  24. Less military grade weapons and gadgetry, more civilian arms. Handguns are available everywhere. Civilian rifles: 30-30, 30-06, 7Mag, AR-15/16, Civilian Market AK. All of these use non Nato standard rounds but are the same rifles used by the military. If the game remains set in a foreign country than use more local rifles: Mauser, Mosin-Nagant, any number of bull-pup european rifles. And you can still throw in an ultra rare automatic weapon. I don't see a lot of military items being around if I was a survivor of z-day.

    Spawn Selection Suggestion

But you would be forced to find a new map every time you met your end or go to coast. Otherwise what is the point of a 225km^2 map?
