Rumor has it you access your inventory and let yourself starve. I would try to reset your character at the main menu and see if that gives you a fresh spawn. -

I tend free winded when going through forest areas and the like. If I do enter a city, especially hot spots I sit and watch it for a few minutes and move around trying to assess as much of the area I can before entering.
