Ok so its already set up no AI in the mission, try having your friend join and when you get to the briefing screen make sure to allow his character to load all the way in to blue then start the mission and see if he gets birded.

When you launch the mission it should show at the bottom of the lobby enable/disable AI just try leaving it enabled. It will be indicated in red text under the playable characters if the AI is enabled.

Sounds like your are starting the mission prior to everyone getting in with AI disabled. If there's no respawn, and you disable AI units, then there are no living units for join-in-progress players to 'posess'. So when the players join they are insta birded. Try launching the mission with a low player count and ensure everyone is completely ready in the lobby before starting the mission. I have had this issue before with the same mission PBO.

I learned to laugh, sing, cry and blood bag. I have furthered my skills in basket weaving and household chores to maintain a clans base. Ultimately broken I moved on blood bagging the weak and in need. 5 dayz later a came across a lovely bovine I named reggie who I adored and has never left my side to date no matter how many log in's I perform at Pobeda.
