Taking a shit in a computer game....surely a world's first? :D -
 A troll, by any other name...

Nice choice of name, Mr Non-Troll.

agree, I have seen plenty of awesome-looking police zombies, so adding what you suggest would work great IMO.

I really think that the game shouldn't' date=' you can already find everything you need to live indefinitely in the space of 30 minutes if you know where to look. [/quote'] It's not about just finding what you need, its about creating the illusion of a random and excitingly disordered world, hence the suggestion that occasionally rare items spawn in unusual places - adding interest and excitement and preventing the game becoming a 'routine' of patrolling the same old loot spots. I really can't see why this wouldn't be an improvement and I struggle to understand the conservatism of some people here, as if they are opposed to any further changes in this Alpha software. To keep people coming back for more, unpredictability is key.

How to stop people from playing Day Z
l mandrake replied to dirtystinkinninja's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The shoot-on-sight phenomenon is aggravated severely by a lack of functional direct chat. IF direct chat worked properly, and ideally was put back into the centre of the screen like in op flashpoint, players would find it MUCH easier to state their intentions quickly to each other. example: I was creeping through a barn, heard footsteps nearby, wanted to call on side chat but knew it would reveal my pos to bandits so stayed quiet. A dude came face to face with me around a corner, he had a crossbow pointed at my head, I had an ak, split second decision = no more him. I would rather have called out to him on Direct chat when I heard his footsteps. Perhaps we could have avoided the mess. Then again maybe he was a bandit stalking me. Guess I'll never know.... -

I agree. I don't like always knowing for sure what kind of loot you will find in certain locations, it would be nice to add a more random factor occasionally, i.e. your example or a soldier crawled into a supermarket looking for food and died, leaving an M4 + clips (the probability of this should be very low though).

Different themed gear for each military base area.

I really like this idea, make better use of the map and give more 'identity' to different areas. +1 -
My hope is that Arma 3 will eventually see a remodelled Chernarus map released by BIS as paid DLC - which will be optimised and contain more enterable buildings, the perfect setting for DayZ 2....

I would love to be able to do the 'zombie shuffle' to fool bandits into thinking I'm just another Zed. Would need to ditch my backpack and weps first, which would bring a high level of risk, but it could be a valuable tactic in a pinch (i.e. when you have no ammo left anyway).

This got buried in another thread, think it's a separate idea so reposting (searched but didn't find anything.) I was thinking, what would really happen in a world with no electronic communications and bandits plaguing the population? Community-minded people would still try to find a way to warn others about dangerous individuals. And then it hit me - Wild West style wanted posters. My idea for this to work in DayZ: 1.) Every player needs a unique physical appearance upon spawn - clothing, facial hair, hat, sunglasses etc. (Arma2 engine can do this). 2.) Every major town should contain a noticeboard with 'Wanted posters' - physical descriptions of the worst bandits (5+ murders gets you on the list). Could even add 'artists impressions' (sketches). 3.) Only bandits currently active in the server are listed. 4.) When you view the noticeboard, you get a copy of the list added to the 'notes' on your map screen. At least that way people would have more info about who to avoid. Fairly realistic way of passing information too (after all, this forum is just a glorified noticeboard :D )

Sorry, but I give up arguing with you, as I can't understand what your argument is, only that your are throwing out flimsy and obstructive comments because you seem to be instinctively against any form of 'meddling' in the DayZ world. That's fair enough, but maybe just say you don't support the idea of a majority-versus-bandits ethos within DayZ and leave it at that? And also accept the fact that many other people want to help DayZ evolve into a more sophisticated experience, becoming essentially a primitive post-apocalyptic society (with trading posts, currency, notoriety) rather than the current anarchic vacuum, because this reflects what would ACTUALLY happen over time to a bunch of human beings after a cataclysm, hence the many suggestions towards this goal.

Please re-read OP.

I really like this idea. A more direct version of my Wanted Posters suggestion. Would reflect the idea that word would spread about notorious murderers and eventually, people would gang up and go hunt them. +1

I think you misunderstand the concept of 'community'. It can be as loose a definition as simply all law-abiding people in a certain area, because they all agree to a shared code of conduct (i.e. not murdering each other). That creates the aforementioned de facto community. Obese people can't be considered a community because they have no social contract (no interaction at all, in fact). It is human nature for the majority to create this community based on a shared code of conduct (aka 'The Law'), just as it is natural for the anti-social minority (criminals) to prey on the masses. Wanted Posters are a proven method for a low-tech 'community' to share important information.
-
Population = the 90% of players who aren't bandits. They are a de facto community. And there are servers with up to 70 players now. In the future, we can hope for 100+.

A mechanic to prevent DayZ turning into a massive DM

Remember when direct chat used to be in the middle of the screen so you couldn't miss it? I think we really need this back, as the chat window is so spammed with players connecting, talking in side channel etc that you always miss stuff. Also the global and direct channels are both white which adds to the confusion. A clear, functioning direct chat system is the key to improving the Dayz experience IMHO.

Packing Up Tent with Stuff Inside?
l mandrake replied to drewmaw's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you move a tent without taking the items they will appear in a big pile of loot nearby where the tent originally was (pasted from the wiki)
