Things I wish were never introduced to DayZ
l mandrake replied to ForcefulCJS's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I agree with the point about thermal scopes. High end NATO gear IS totally out of place in DayZ: Suggestion: keep them as ultra rare loot, but.... Thermal scopes need special batteries, which cannot be found in game, giving the scope a finite life, once depleted its just an ordinary scope.... -
A brief summary of my last 72 hours in DayZ: spawn, find a weapon and some other shit, get pissed off by barbed wire cities, get aggroed, break leg, crawl a bit looking in vain for morphine, die, respawn.....ad infinitum, life expectancy <1 hour..... or in less descriptive language: UPDATE PLEEAASSE ROCKET!!!!
-
Please remove or drastically reduce the amount of barbed wire - or make us able to climb over it more easily. Seriously every building in cherno and electro is wired off by idiots thinking they're making it 'secure'. Barbed wire should be a barrier for zeds, who are stupid, not humans who are (usually) resourceful (e.g I would throw my jacket on it and climb over it, or smash it down with my hatchet, or just climb carefully over it etc etc etc )

Learnt a valuable lesson..

Short-term gain over long-term prosperity, it's a sign of low emotional intelligence. Silly Jack ;) -
lol just cos it's alpha doesn't mean it shouldn't be reported, otherwise how's it gonna get fixed? :)
-
Are random equipment losses addressable at all? Just connected to find my DMR (which was in my hands not my backpack) has vanished into thin air :(
-
No worries, the under the hood stuff sounds great.

now im Really too scared to log back in

Turn yourself into an avenging angel, a force for good and justice, a watchful avenger, a not-so-silent guardian..... ....Basically set yourself atop a factory in Cherno and mow down any fucker laying barbed wire or tank traps ANYWHERE. Also shoot zeds chasing unarmed survivors, and of course server hoppers farming the loot spots. Use your blessed weapon to make the world a better place :) -
DayZ, our love affair has been so intense that these last few weeks have been a whirlwind, some of the best times of my gaming life....so even though you decided to play a naughty little trick on me while I was logged off, I have decided to forgive you. I'm sure you only turned my lovely AKM into a bunch of heat packs and cans of coke to help me develop as a survivor, and as a person. And although i may have said a few things in the heat of the moment I want you to know that I forgive you totally because....because.... Gosh darn it, I think I love you

It is turning into a game.

Did someone, by any chance, just feel like a moan? ;) -
Cross-server inventory and location preservation is a mistake.
l mandrake replied to jafit's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
+ 1 Totally valid points -1 the reality of tying players to an individual server is too problematic, e.g. you often can't get a slot on your preferred server, so you would spend the majority of your DayZ time staring despairingly at the server browser or restarting elsewhere. -
Suggestion: fire up the editor, place some targets on utes runway and practise till you get a feel for the weapon.

Wowzers the luck i've had tonight

Bit like my finds yesterday, arrived unarmed in cherno, found a dead guy with a dmr +2 mags in the fire station and matches, knife, map and compass in the supermarket. Happy DayZ! -
Nichts zu entschuldigen! Have fun!

[Guide] Pro Tips for Starting Out
l mandrake replied to clintmbaptiste@gmail.com's topic in New Player Discussion
Nah, I wouldn't worry about 'spoilers', in the absence of a manual your post is just being helpful, especially to players with no experience of the Armaverse. Anyway, reading about it and doing it are totally different things :) -
Use direct voice chat - with the tougher Zeds now most players will gladly co-operate. But keep your distance for the first few minutes and watch their behaviour carefully. If they are unresponsive on chat or keep following you without communicating, shoot them. I met a guy yesterday in a supermarket, I called out on chat that I was coming over, he typed back 'come on in' and we got on fine and paired up for about an hour (he was a new player so I helped him find some equipment). Interestingly, he said that only 1 in 10 players he had met had shot at him... so keep the faith (in humanity).

No he didn't, he got out-exploited. And he's not a 'carebear'. So great post, well done! :)

What are MAN icons on the map?
l mandrake replied to shadowvfx's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Zeds most likely. -
It seems the problem is the IMMEDIATE unconsciousness hourglass after one shot. EXAMPLE: I shot a player twice with my DMR from approx 10 metres. He immediately went down and alt+f4'd out. OK, I am used to this by now.... ....but since I hit him twice with 7.62 surely he should be dead? Did the hourglass after the first shot prevent him from taking further damage? Are players only able to be hurt when conscious? Would really appreciate an answer to this!
